  • Quick video on the use of the ADF radio and FM radio in homing mode. I try to demonstrate the VHF NAV radio but for some reason can't get it working. I'll try again and record a separate video on VOR navigation and ILS.

James Williams No problem, glad to be of service. I think that you may like my next video too as I'm planning to do a multi player mission with Hueys and record it.

Aha! It seems that there may be a bug with the VHS NAV radio right now where the LOS calculation is inversed. Notice that I get a signal when I'm in a hollow very low to the ground but I loose it as I ascend. That's the opposite of what should have happened.

hi there deephack, i've been away from dcs for a while-real life work got in the way so to speak. I've been looking at this again and the only navegation system i can get to work is finding the emergency locator transmitter (i followed a you tube tutorial to do the mission!!) But as for the ADF i just cannot understand it. Every airport has SO many frequencies. Also if i am a couple of hundred kilometres from my destination airport would i still use the ADF or is there another way of doing it? Sorry to be so slow on this but it's breaking my head-i am trying to get to a level where i can fly online-i can now pick up cargo and drop it on the FARP landing pad but until i can work out how to get from A to B i really don't feel that i am good enough to go "online" so to speak. Would it be posible to do another video for idiots.... Many thanks for just Reading this!!

+James Williams think of it this way. A strong AM radio station can be used as and NDB and actually can be used a few hundred miles away. Just tune the radio station into on your ADF radio (listening to the broadcast optional) the the ADF needle will point to it. It's the least sophisticated of all navigational aids. So, if you want to fly to that NDB, turn your aircraft so that the ADF needle is pointing to 12 o'clock, which is a representation of it being on the nose. If you are flying to a commercial radio station and not a dedicated navigational aid, it will most definitely not be located at the airfield. Just using it as an example of how stupid NDBs are. Extra credit: Find out your position by noting the heading to two different NDBs. You are at the intersection of the two headings.
