The W903 from Carpuride is another positive step forward for the brand and its growing releases of portable car stereo displays. The major selling points for the W903 are a 9.3" IPS display, which has great viewing angles, it offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, video casting from your iPhone or Android device, and up top, there is a dash camera that can be rotated 360 degrees, so you can not only record out of the front windscreen, you can point it towards you for internal recording also.
Installation is a breeze, you just need a working stereo with either FM, AUX input or Bluetooth to cast audio from the display to your car stereo speakers. Failing that, you have a small built-in speaker, but this is only really good for voice and navigation commands.
Using its 12v adapter cable to power the display in 10 seconds from ignition the display fires up to present a number of its capabilities - CarPlay, Android Auto, AirPlay, Android Cast, Dashcam and Wi-Fi connection to browse its recorded footage via an app on your phone.
Both CarPlay and Android Auto worked pretty seamlessly, with Android Auto being the slight exception as it did struggle to reconnect me after the first initial pairing. CarPlay was much more of a smoother, friction-free experience, connecting successfully each time and resuming as expected when powered off for long periods.
Android Auto on the W903 also had some display ratio issues, where round icons were more egg-shaped due to the display squashing the feed it was being given. CarPlay was also ever so slightly affected this way too, but it isn't as obvious with its more square icons. Delay in touch over wireless was the expected 2 seconds. A 2 to 3-second delay in calling may also frustrate people.
Audio casting from FM wasn't acceptable in my setup. Any bass from a song would create large amounts of interference, which made listening to music very frustrating. AUX picked up this disappointment with a much better experience, one I would recommend, at the sacrifice of another wire going to the display. Bluetooth is one setup forward again in audio quality and experience, and if your car's Bluetooth stereo has wheel controls, these will work as your phone is connected to the stereo rather than to the display. The downside of Bluetooth is the microphone is picked up by the phone and not the one built into the display. So having your phone present on the dash or nearby to hear you would be important.
I found video casting to a display like this a little wasted, as phones these days are so big that there's very little advantage casting to the display when your phone will do this so much better and without any audio lag, and when on iOS, you will not encounter copyright restrictions from apps like Netflix etc. So don't let this particular feature become what sells this system to you.
As a dash camera, the W903 isn't going to match some dedicated dash cameras at the same price. Its performance when played back on screen or via the mobile app looks fine unless you require small details, which can get lost within its average quality, even at its maximum 2.5K resolution. At night the quality suffers from heavy amounts of noise and lack of detail in dark areas. With enough light, internal footage can look okay, but without any IR support, it's not going to capture well. Bloom is present due to the distance of the camera away from the windscreen.
If you're looking for a display with camera support, the W903 does it all at an acceptable level, but don't expect stellar performance in all areas it features for your money.

One of the best reviews for this deviceâŠ
Thank you so much đđ»đ
the model has the front camera ,so nice
Yes itâs quite handy feature
Nice review; I recently purchased the same unit and am really enjoying it! One note though; the camera physically rotates 350 degrees, not 360 degrees. I was trying to figure out why I was having a hard time getting it to rotate all the way around in one direction. Turns out it will only rotate so far in either direction.
Itâs likely so you donât twist the camera cable thatâs inside
Hi from Indonesia! Your video popped up in my feed today, and I am indeed in the market for a portable CarPlay display.
You've done a great job sharing your experience about the product, thanks a lot for the video!
Does the passthrough USB A on the 12v plug able to connect your iPhone to the unit directly (wired CarPlay)?
I am not sure about having a wireless CarPlay for me since it's usually more laggy compared to wired, makes my phone warm more easily (I live in a tropical country), and I need to plug my phone anyway when I am in my car.
Thanks you so much!
Thanks for finding my channel and for your kind comments.
Thatâs a very good question but I think the socket is pass through power only. I remember plugging in my Android and it just powered it. They would have to do something special to do power and also data on this power cable so I highly doubt it works that way, but itâs a good idea to have. Itâs best you look for displays with wired options too, sadly most are older displays.
I just got this device, and want to thank you for this in depth review. The only thing I have had issues with so far is the switching from Apple Car Play to the WIFI Camera and attempting to use the screen mirroring from iphone. It seems like I have to basically "forget" the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections each time I switch functions. I did not see you do that in the video, however, you did seem to approach each function with a fresh WiFi connection. was this your experience as well? Or am I missing a way to "easily" switch over from Apple Carplay to get my videos loaded to my Iphone.. say on the side of the road and just had an accident?
thank you again for the informative video!
BT can remain connected. Itâs just you have to come out of wireless CarPlay to have a connection to its WiFi module for mirroring or to access the camera via the app. It canât do both. Turn off CarPlay at the BT settings area to disconnect and it should then allow you to do mirror and dash cam connections.
Depending on your phone size, I find mirroring to this display no different to viewing on your phone screen in terms of size. And you shouldnât need to access the dash cam as frequently on your phone where playback is just fine on the display itself.
Carplay call was delayed by twice as much as Android Auto. Time Stamp: 17:03
Yes there is quite a bit of a delay on this one.
Does the unit go into sleep mode or power off when you turn car off? If not what are the options if not. My charger stays powered when car is off.
There is a power button on top that will turn the display off when held down or sleep the display when pressed. Otherwise you can pull the cable out socket when you leave.
Does the screen support multi-touch input, ie., pinch zoom on maps?
I donât think any will. Multi-Touch isnât supported in CP and I think AA also.
â@@CarPlayLifePinch zoom on maps is supported in Android Auto, I've driven a couple cars recently that did allow me to do it. Hence why I'm asking đ
Hi, Iâve purchased one of these and Iâve connected via the Bluetooth mode. Do you know if there is a way to control Siri with the voice button on a steering wheel? Also, Siri is really quiet (even though the volume is loud) and I canât find a way to turn it up. Do you have any idea of how to fix this issue? Thanks in advance
Try turning up the volume when Siri is active. Also I donât know if there is an option to tell Siri to work over internal speaker or the selected audio output. You can also toggle Siri by talking to it.
EQ is in the bottom-right corner of the music player screen. Time stamp 13:18
Thatâs the CarPlay home button not an EQ option
Hi, I am curious. Can't you just flip the screen so the camera is in the bottom instead of the top? So it could be mounted with no issues of it being blocked by anything?
I donât think the display flips sadly
Can you bypass the AUX/FM tuner and just go straight to car's speakers via bluetooth or does that require WiFi too?
You for have to use aux/fm at all. If you have a BT stereo you can go straight in with the BT audio output connection.
You can choose what each Bluetooth controls on your phone
Not sure what you mean by this question. Bluetooth is used for audio from the phone.
Does this work in a Audi A3 s line 2015
It will work in any car with a 12v power socket.
how does this compare to the coral vision rx10?
If camera is important then this is better. Otherwise they are very similar.
Im looking for one like this with a battery powered backup camera I drive the ambulance and some of them are dated with no backup camera I need to be able to take it on and off on the fly
Iâm not aware of one that has battery cameras. I think thereâs some around that do not need reverse wires to be spliced into
Is there a way to mount this on bike handlebars
Itâs possible but it wonât be weatherproof and youâll have to power it off a battery bank. I have a motorcycle display review coming soon for the Carpuride W702.
@@CarPlayLife thanks for your reply. Could you suggest how to mount this to handlebars and can you connect a rear camera to it at all.
For this screen display? It would need some kind of ball mount like a bike phone mount and clip the screen onto it using its ball attachment. Connecting rear camera from this display usually means splicing its power cable onto a reverse light wire. Some displays donât need this and can be viewed by selecting an option on the display.
The things keep auto recording everytime I turn it on. I can't find anything on how to turn it off. Please help
I think thatâs by design. Or go into the camera side of the display where you see the feed full screen and tap the red button on the lower left side.
Unfortunately Sent mine back after a day of use only had fm transmitter connection available in my van and sound quality was terrible
Yes the FM was bad for me too. Was it like mine when there was any bass in music it would just fall over and sound bad? Because Iâve had this on a few displays now and wondered if itâs my setup thatâs causing it somehow.
Does apple screen mirroring work on this device?
Yup 23:05
@@CarPlayLife is there anyway it can full out the screen?
Sadly not. They are all like this. A bit of an afterthought feature really.
I bought this model but the screen mirror not working I turned it on and off still not working I have a iPhone 11 version 17.2.1?
Are you on the same WiFi as the display? Youâll need to connect to its WiFi first. Follow the instructions on the screen.
@@CarPlayLife I did all of that still staying unable to connect to smartscreen
Make sure nothing else is connected to the display. Another phone or car system be it BT or WiFi. So thereâs nothing else fighting for the same WiFi connection.
Donât forget that some apps will not stream content. But thatâs separate to actually connecting to it via screen share
@@CarPlayLife it work in Android Auto with screen mirror. My coworker has a iPhone 11 as well but his version is 17.1.1 and it work maybe because mine is on 17.2.1
It's possible yeah
sher gut.
Danke :)
Is it just me but every Carpuride W903 is a sponsored video is there any video out there not sponsoredđ€·ââïž for Real Review?
I wasnât paid for this review. What do you want to know?
@@CarPlayLife there is a carplay/Android with the same exact specs name Lamtto for $75 cheaper but the Carpuride has the Rotatable camera while Lamtto can't rotate which should I buy?
I guess you have to ask yourself if you think having a rotatable camera is worth the extra $75. Do you need to have it facing you instead of out the window.
Iâve not heard of the Lamtto brand but thereâs many of rebrands of the same hardware out there. This sounds like one of those. You might want to factor in shipping costs and what custom support is like.
Nice. I wondering if you could cover how you would connect this screen to your air vents? I canât see how you would do this with what they have provided in the box.
Carpuride is so good
Yes they are improving
Too much money rather have a small tablet
Using a tablet wouldnât be a like for like comparison with a display like this IMO
