I remember something I read somewhere about the thing with bees and "consent" for the honey (I don't remember exactly were). This person said that, apparently, bees are maybe one of the only animals that can consent to live in beekeeping farms. If they feel slightly uncomfortable, if there's something bad with the food, temperature, or other stuff, they just take their larvae and leave the farm, just like that. If it's true, it's something pretty interesting and cool... Jajajja, anyways, I loved this reaction XD it was amazing. XP XP.

Male bees don't have stingers so he couldn't sting anyone anyway, and we do actually steam the bee hives, but it isn't some toxic nicotine smoke like this movie is making it out to be. I could be wrong, but I'm like 70% sure it's just plain ol steam. It's definitely not harmful to the bees - if it were, they would have no problems with just leaving.

it is smoke, but its fuelled by things like twigs, pine straw etc as to not expose the bees to chemicals that might harm them! it just prevents them from telling each other theres someone messing with the hive and makes them start eating honey in case they need to evacuate, so they're preocupied and don't attack you while you're handling the hive

The Princess and the Pea is an old fairytale. The story goes that a queen was trying to find a 'true princess' to be a bride for her son. Apparently the test was the ability to feel a pea through a stack of mattresses. Princesses came from all over to stay to try and win over the prince and his mother. None of the princesses had been able to feel the pea. Months passed and one stormy night a poor young woman knocked on the castle door asking for shelter. The queen put her up in the room that the other princesses had slept in. In the morning, the prince and his mother asked her if she had slept well and she said that she had been disturbed by a lump in the bed. The queen was thrilled that she had found a true princess for her son to marry. Naturally they lived happily ever after.

This movie is just so insane that you can’t help but love it. The movie more or less just does whatever will be funniest, so naturally it isn’t really very accurate to how bees really are. Of course that’s what’s best for a comedy. In reality most bees in the same hives aren’t cousins but are all sisters or half sisters and they do not breed with each other. Also, males pretty much only exist to leave and mate with new queens, so the workers are all female. The stinger is also an adapted female reproductive organ so males don’t have them. They are also perfectly happy in human farms, as if they aren’t happy with their conditions, they will simply leave to make a new hive.

the biggest problem with the bee industry is that humans only use one kind of bee for honey farming in most places, and outside of europe that bee is an invasive species and is helping to kill off native pollinators.

The smoke/steam is non-addictive and not harmful to the bees as far as I know. Most of the bees can leave freely, but the hive is kept from swarming (migrating) because the queen bee is larger than the others and she usually can't fit through the opening. The other bees just follow wherever the queen goes.
The main problem I have with modern bee-farming is how some are now simply fed a diet of sugar and syrups to get them to produce honey faster rather than letting them forage for pollen from flowers. This produces a lower quality of honey and also lowers the bees' health, making them more susceptible to diseases. In these cases the bees are also given antibiotics.
Another thing this movie gets wrong is the importance of honeybees in pollination. Yes, honeybees pollenate. So do a ton of other insects: butterflies, ants, beetles, other kinds of bees, some moths, even hummingbirds. And some plant species just pollenate by air. So no, the world wouldn't turn brown and die just because honeybees went off the job. Honeybees aren't even native to America if I remember correctly. They were imported.

If you are able to keep calm and not swat the bee away, if you just leave it, the bee will start to spin until it manages to free its stinger from you and fly away. The smoke beekeepers use is generally used to cover up the pheromones the bees release to warn the hive of attack. Mostly the beekeepers just use kindling of whatever is available bc that's easy, cheap, and effective. Most videos of beekeepers I've seen show the beekeepers using the smoke on their own body to cover the human scent so the bees don't get agitated to begin with but I dunno if that's standard practice

The thing I find funniest about the Bee Movie’s logic is how 1. Bee’s are not the only pollinators in the world, like sure they do a lot of it but they’re not the only ones, to some extent even humans are pollinators. 2. Even if they were, the plants that are currently there wouldn’t be dying off immediately, pollen isn’t their life source. As long as they have sunlight and water they’ll continue to live for however long it is that flowers and other plants live. And 3. Honey =/= pollen. Even if they did stop making honey, that doesn’t necessarily mean they’d stop going out of the hive, getting pollen on themselves, pollinating. This movie is just basic logic being thrown out the window lmao

  • @cookieridergirl
    @cookieridergirl Před 2 lety +5

I love how this movie has no logic behind how bees work or how plants work, but the movie, just works.
Like for one, all worker bees are female and are all children of the queen. So they are all sisters not cousins. Males (drones) just reproduce with young queens that will start a new colony. There is the possibility of a new queen taking over the hive which might not be related to the original worker bees but eventually all her offspring will become workers as the old workers die out.
And then, I’m not an expert on plants. And without bees there would be consequences. But plant use bees for reproduction. If a maple tree wasn’t pollinated I don’t think it would just die, it just wouldn’t be able to produce fertile seeds. Fruit and vegetables would not produce, that would be true. But this is also assuming bees are the only pollinators, which they are not. And again, plants wouldn’t just all die or wither because of a lack of pollination, not all in one season. Annuals wouldn’t be able to reproduce and might not come back the next year as their will be no seeds. Perennials would still be around just again wouldn’t reproduce to make seeds to spread. It not like my indoor plants get pollinated and they do just fine. Seeds aren’t the only way plants reproduce anyways. Some plants can reproduce asexually through stems, roots, and leaves for examples so plants send out runners like strawberries. I propagated (clone) my vines all the time from the a single plant.
Now obviously this movie is sending out a messaging and above that is just a silly comedy, but nature is so much more complex and beautiful and I just like to point that out.

Honestly one of my favorite things about the movie is that someone came up with the theory that the bee is actually the father of Freddie from icarly (there's a whole breakdown of it).... And the actor basically said "Someone finally figured it out... Theory confirmed"
Like if you Google anything related you'll see it

You should definately see Disney's Atlantis, it's about as underrated as Treasure Planet, and it is so incredibly good!

If a Sloth baby falls off of it's mother then the mom will abandon it, Sloths grow itchy moss and have bugs on their back because they move so slowly, their main predator is a bird with great eyes so they will die if the bird sees a sloth and is hungry, the only thing sloths are good at is swimming but the only time they go into the water is when they fall and then crocodiles/anacondas will likely eat them. THIS is what you want to be? XD

Glad you asked The princess and the pea is a fairy tale about a kingdom that was in need of a princess. According to this fairy tale a TRUE princess would be extremely physically sensitive. For example a single pea under hundreds of mattresses would be enough to make a princess sleep deprived the next day. And that is how they tested various women for princess hood in the story. That’s how the pea and the princess relate.
