    Stoick's death all hit us hard, especially if you saw the shows and created a bond between you and the characters. It was just unexpected but I could understand why they had to do it. Hiccup had to learn that leadership isn't just making peace or talking it out, sometimes you have to make tough decisions and he realized that through his father's death. Also I think to Stoick, saving his son from death was probably the best death he could ask for.

  • @supers5271
    @supers5271 Před 3 lety +339

    The funeral scene always makes me cry. The music, the lighting, the way the shots were taken, dialogue, the animation, the buildup to the moment, and the context combined made that scene so sad and so respectable for Stoick’s death and funeral, especially for Hiccup’s turning point. It’s a scene that never fails to make you grieve about it. At least Stoick got to reunite with Valka and got to experience being a family for a short while.
    There was also 2 seasons of a tv show that takes place after the first movie, which is Hiccup and the crew at age 15. In HTTYD 2 (this film), they’re 20, and the third movie takes place a year after the second movie. If you were wondering how Hiccup managed to make a giant map, a pop-up fire sword (lightsaber reference), his flying suit, Hiccup’s shield that can turn into a crossbow or shoot a Bolas or Net (wasn’t shown in the movie), know more about Hiccup and Astrid’s relationship, know more about the different species of dragons and know more about the dragon trappers, that all takes place in a tv series on Netflix called “Dragons: Race to the Edge”. If you’re interested in the lore and want to know more about HTTYD, it’s a great show to watch. Love your reactions btw‼️ I grew up watching the first movie back in 2010 as a kid and the How to Train Your Dragon franchise will always hold a special place in my heart, love this trilogy. Sad it’s over, but all good things must come to an end.

    • @jneumy566
      @jneumy566 Před 3 lety +17

      Yes! A lot of people watch the movies but no one does the shows, which sucks because when you think about it, they're actually essential to Hiccup's character development. Where does he get all the experience that he exhibits in the second and third movies? Where does he learn to make the tough decisions a chief needs to make? Where does his desire to make peace with Drago come from? It's all from the shows. If you're just watching the movies, it would seem like they just happened to be good at fighting hunters, but they actually have plenty of experience. Everything that Viggo put Hiccup through basically trained him to be a good chief because of how he had to handle it. And his persistence on making peace with Drago was because he didn't want anything like that happening again, especially since he thought it was already over. The character growth for Hiccup in the shows is what makes him who he is in the last two movies. It merges that gap between awkward teen and experienced leader. It also shows his fortitude at such a young age because he doesn't seem to have any lasting PTSD from Race to the Edge which is very impressive considering all that happened.

    • @supers5271
      @supers5271 Před 3 lety +9

      @@jneumy566 Yes!! I so agree with you!
      Dreamworks really did well on the HTTYD storyline and put so much effort into it. They made Hiccup and Astrid an amazing and respectable couple because of their growth together as a pair. They start as awkward teens that have a thing for each other to.. (you know what I’m about to say, but it’ll spoil it for Welchy). Hiccup and Astrid have the best character development and character archs both separately and together as a couple. They’re the most realistic couple and individuals in animation, and set the standards high for future character development in future stories. I feel like the HTTYD franchise is the best example of what Dreamworks can do with animation, storyline, character development, character archs, you name it. It’s what really sets Dreamworks apart from Disney and Pixar. Their music as well is amazing. It’s not like Disney songs where it’s catchy and has a message that you can understand by singing, the music says the message. It can give you the vibe of a scene, tell you what’s happening, make you feel the emotion. Their music makes scenes like the “Test Drive” scene in the first movie feel so freeing, and really captures the emotion that Hiccup and Toothless feel, as well as the bond that they developed over that whole scene of flying together and trusting each other.

They both take place between this and the first movie and do a great job of fleshing out the side characters along with merging the gap in Hiccup's character from the awkward teen in the first movie to the confident leader in this one. Plus, four of the six actors for the dragon riders reprised their roles. Hiccup, Astrid, Fishlegs, and Tuffnut are all voice by the same people as in the movies. Great mix of comedy and story. I always find it so fascinating when you can see people reacting to Stoicks death so authentically. You can see the shock the weird little reflexive laugh as his brain tries to relieve the tension and then slowly going back to trying to process the loss that you want to keep denying

    The first time I watched this movie, I definitely balled my eyes out. Since I watched the series that came before the movie, I was more attached to Stoic. This'll always be one of my favorite movies from dreamworks.

  • @teen-wolf-maniac

    Great reaction! I loved the opening for this one! Hiccup takes off his helmet looking handsome and the score's even more amazing! I also love how excited you get for the score.
    Toothless is even cuter than in the first movie. One of my favorite moments is when Hiccup is wrestling with him but Toothless is unfazed and just stands up with him around his neck and *waddles* !
    I also love how emotional you are in these movies. The way you reacted when the Alpha was skewered and when Stoic was killed were the ones that stood out. The way it seemed like you were so taken aback and devastated that you laughed in disbelief.
    All in all, I loved this movie and was so glad it didn't suffer from sequelitis where the sequel is weaker quality compared to the original. The mom being a dragon whisperer and a little less good with other humans was a nice touch. Hiccup taking after her was to be expected! :P Also, Ruffnut was really boy crazy in this movie! Lol!
    By the way, to be perfectly honest, I really like Scottish and Irish accents! Even Australian and New Zealander accents. I don't why but I seem to be attracted to them. "Attracted" in the general sense, mind you. Sorry for the long comments :P

    Stoick didn't not care about Hiccup in the first movie. He just showed his love in the wrong ways. He was overprotective, trying to keep Hiccup from training with the other kids, because he was worried he wasn't capable or strong enough. Then he loosened the reins a little, allowing him to go to training, and Hiccup proved himself - just not in the way Stoick hoped. Then with the whole disowning moment, he was showing "tough love"; you can see, right after he walks out of the hall, his knees buckle slightly and he stumbles, clearly heartbroken at what he's just done and regretting striking that blow in the heat of the moment.

    Eret, the initially unimpressive bad guy, is a good fighter. He's not got the best personality, but he just ended up getting found by a bad crowd. He's a great fighter against dragons and particularly against people, but the both of them together are a completely different force. The long-term planning ability of a person and the senses and abilities of a dragon make for an incredible team if they know each other well.

    This is very much one of my favorite series. I was waiting for your reaction to Stoic the moment you said you were watching the series 😂
    But this, like the Hunger Games, does a thing I appreciate for "kids" films: not everything is perfect. Sometimes bad things happen and you just have to learn how to live your life after. It's a good lesson for all of us to see that we're not weird for not being okay after something bad happens. It's normal. Healing takes time and sometimes it's forever.

It's also gives me SUCH a thrill and SUCH pride that you were so excited then about nearly reaching 5K subscribers, and you have *24 THOUSAND now!* Unbelievable. You deserve all of it, you are so precious and intelligent and just a wonderful person. I will *always* continue watching your videos.
    Also, I saw someone else make this comment about this movie, and I thought it was really interesting: among a slew of Disney and Dreamworks movies in which the child disagrees with their parents, the child turns out to be right, and the parents apologize to them in the end... in THIS movie, both the kid's parents tell him he's being foolish, and it turns out the ADULTS were right! And his dad pays for Hiccup's foolishness with his life. That's more realistic, tbh. Sometimes parents need to let their kids be themselves... but it's important to remember that in real life, those older than you are quite often right.
