Most impressive to me about Strickland is that he has stayed relevant and competitive as the standard of pool has improved fairly significantly over the last 40 years. To think someone could win a championship in 1983, and then be selected for the 2022 Mosconi cup America's team is simply amazing. Real shame he wasn't able to play.
Maybe the first pool match I've ever seen that's even more entertaining with just the audio lol. Those two are a hoot.

Yup these commentators are hating and misleading people.
These legends are running racks like legends yet the commentators can't shut up with how Shane and Earl are playing every shot wrong, shooting the wrong order, hitting the balls the wrong way, on and on. Someone send a memo the commentators that this isn't their match. Also we want to hear what Earl is saying to the referee and the crowd, but naturally the commentators are rambling over the room audio about how they would play the match better.
I usually like these guys a lot but they were way too critical of the shot choices. Probably the two best to ever play the game and nearly every shot choice was wrong?

These commentators are like bickering brothers, hilarious.
Would of liked to see Shane and Earl player each other both at their prime. Earl can still play, however in his prime he was a machine. SVB is more calculated and probably better suited for 8 ball, however earl would of been the better 9 ball player. Both of them are 5 time US 9 ball champions.
I don't care if these two commentators are good friends or not they sound like they're arguing throughout this entire match! It was a huge distraction that took away from a great match between two of the best players in the game!

I used to hate Earl, but I am really starting to love the guy. What a player, so much knowledge and raw ability. He has to go down as one of the best players in our lifetime.
best 9-ball player ever. not the best all around player, but imo the best player of the main discipline. we will see what filler will do, he has got the same qualities but is still young

@@pechinma I always considered SVB one of the greatest 8 ball players maybe tied with Efren Reyes for 8 ball, and here in one of few 8 ball matches I can find with Earl, Earl defeats SVB pretty soundly?
@@marshalcraft with that ability he can/could beat anyone under the right circumstances. but he never had the consistency and pattern play of the great 8-ball players (to which i would add bustie, darren and hohmann).
@@pechinma @pechinma Those three are very iconic 8 ball players, really are, I personally have noted them many times, but SVB, Reyes, and younger Ko in my opinion have very large tournament wins, which is why I consider those 3 to be the very best 8 ballers, then there is bustie, darren, hohmann, alex pagulayan, Melling, Hatch, Seigel, Archer, Ronnie O'sullivan, Lin ( I believe that's his name? I forget some chinese and taipai players) I would say is my favorite 8 ball players of all time, with SVB and Reyes being the best, and the 3 you mentioned probably the next in line. Archer and Melling I rate highly, as well as Pagulayan, has played some of the best 8 ball to watch.
I love the relationship SvB and The Pearl seem to have. In between racks they chat and laugh. I saw them together in the Mosconi Cup and SvB was the only one able to keep Earl focused on playing.
I agree and Earl doesn’t do that with many people.

Commentators take away from the greatness.
Man, these commentators really suck. They talked over each other the whole time, they said the exact same thing every single rack, and that old man thinks he’s right about everything he says. It’s like they don’t understand the point of commentary is to add to the viewing experience, not distract from it.
At one hour in if they would STFU we could hear what Earl was regalling the crowd with. But noooooo...........
They are classic, half as fun as the match, like a married couple comedy routine. lol

Can someone make a rule that says "for being a commentator, you have to be an active player"? These "has beens" trying to guess the shots and failing miserably is just annoying to watch after some point.

The truth is, Earl has not been in his prime for many years. These players today could not consistently handle him during those times. Only Efren was as good or better then. I am talking about his ability. Leave out the likability comments.
Earl Strickland in his 50’s is still amazing. Danny is right, Earl is not intimidated by anyone! Strickland won five US 9-Ball championships and three World 9-Ball Championships in an era when the competition was fierce.
These announcers are as much fun as the match! Billiards version of Gorilla Monsson and Bobby The Brain.

You notice when Earl is talking, everyone in the audience avoids eye contact with him .
We get more of Earl's personality, than any other player. Well... Minnesota Fats comes close, or maybe passes Earl there.

I enjoy watching SVB and Earl play together or against they have a good time either way and get along great talking and that alone is one thing SVB doesn't usually do with many. He turns off his hearing aids against many others.

These two commentators drive me crazy with their arguing.. I turned down the volume so I can enjoy the game. They do this every time and should be removed from the coverage

The commentators, especially Danny, talk way too much. They are often still talking about their opinion of the best shots for the player while the player is taking a completely different shot.
