The trailer turned out great. My rig is no longer street legal after going to full hydro steering so I've been shopping for trailers and I've narrowed it down to the 20' 10k lb car hauler from Appalachian Trailers but building one has crossed my mind. If I build one I can build a deck over with a 100" width deck. Since my rig is 91" tire edge to tire edge. I'm looking forward to your updates with the camper on as I have an F350 but with the 6.0 diesel and will be doing long trips such as King Of The Hammers next February and it would be nice to pull up and have a place to sleep already setup.

Personally I'd run the generator exhaust to the top of the trailer just to keep the fumes away from the living/working area. A better fan for circulation as well, maybe something like a bathroom vent fan with a clothes drier flap duct cap on the outside, maybe even 2 fans.
Thanks for the suggestions. I think the main problem is the generator is getting too hot inside the enclosure. Adding more air circulation will definitely help. I have a 10" fan right now, but I don't think this is enough.
I don't know if you solved the heat problem yet with the generator. I was having the same problem and I found that 1 6 inch fan was enough but I needed to push the fresh air in rather than trying to push hot air out. It made all of the difference in the world.@@rgsabat

Thanks. Yes, I had to weigh it. It was 4145 lbs on the axles, without front cabinets and without tongue weight. I estimate 5000 lbs total weight empty.
I built this trailer to be pulled with a slide-in camper in the back of my truck 95% of the time. I did not care about frontal area of the trailer. That's why I left so much space for the tongue and a large toolbox as a deck to enter my camper. In hindsight though, I wish I did round off the front edges for that remaining 5% of the time, I might still do that though, but I keep wondering if it is worth it...
@@rgsabat hind site is always 20/20. Just putting a little round on the front would help. But i have to say, its not all drag thats causing you loss. You built the hell out of that trailer. Weight my friend, that thing has to be heavy, especially loaded. All the steel you put in that thing has to weigh more than a regular tongue pull plus the flat front causing drag. Theres your 4 miles to the gallon loss. I knew it was going to be heavy just looking at the frame work. So, rounding the nose will help but maybe not much.
@@aaronwood3540 Thanks for advice. If I wanted a light weight trailer I would saved myself the hassle and bought a run-of-the-mill enclosed trailer instead of building one. I need to haul my 6000lbs rock crawler, plus generator and tools and the trailer must have drive over internal fenders because my rock crawler is 96" wide. I weighed this trailer empty and it was 4500 lbs, which isn't bad
@@rgsabat oh yeah i wasnt disagreeing, i was complementing if anything. You couldn't afford to buy a trailer built like yours. I seen a comment where you said you had close to 10k in it, it wouldve cost 20 to get a manufacturer or a weld shop to build that thing. I was at best helping you figure out your milage issue. I build trailers for a living. The only thing i see here is weight and that blocky front causing drag. Trailer is very well built. Personally i dont think doing anything to the front will help you much on fuel really. However they do make or you could do it, food out wings for the front, just air deflectors. Be simple and wouldnt cost much. Be a cheap try to see if it helped any.

Like the materials. For generator a home furnace filter on the floor would not hurt. Or fyberglass roll cut out.

Add vortex generators and hang from the top front a 'V' Shaped tool/storage box just maybe that would help.

@@trentoinsano Yes, aluminum is harder to paint than steel, but paint could stick well on aluminum if you use a zinc primer first.
Your pulling a brick, the front of that trailer is flat so yeah you are for sure going to get drag.
