  • Short video on how to install additional memory in the new Dell Inspiron 7000 (7579) 2-in-1 laptop.
    The memory you need is DDR4 2133 MHz. Mine came with 2400 mhz ram, but it looks like it only runs at 2133.

    Great video. One suggested addition: After upgrading the RAM, my Dell Inspiron laptop opened in BIOS and gave me the option to either "continue," "bios setup," or "diagnostics." I just clicked "continue" and that seems to be working, but I wasn't sure which was correct because the manual doesn't say.

    In this video, he added an 8gb stick, when there was already a 16gb stick installed. I thought you could not do that? I thought both sticks needed to be the same gb size?

    • @MagmaticZebra
      @MagmaticZebra  Před 2 lety +1

      You can use different size ram sticks, but it wont maximize performance. In this case, it will perform in dual channel as two 8GB sticks, and the remaining 8GB on the 16GB stick will operate in single channel mode. It's not optimal, but adding the additional stick will still increase performance.

      You would need the SATA connector to do this. I'm not sure where you would be able to buy that. The only space I would see is right below the SSD, but it might not be enough... there is a plastic piece there that might block it.

      If you go to the Crucial website, they can do a diagnostics of your system and recommend a range of upgrades. You then just chose the one you want and can afford. They won't recommend anything that won't be compatible, so that's one less thing to worry about.

      If you replace it with a NVMe SSD, it would be faster. It goes in the same M.2 slot, but the data transfer rates are a lot higher. That being said, SSD's are already pretty quick, so you probably wouldn't notice unless you are transfering a ton of data at once.

    what does increasing ram do for your laptop? I also have a Dell 7579 i7, it came with 12gb of ram. I just purchased 2 16 GB RAM sticks, can't wait to see what it does for me

    • @MagmaticZebra
      @MagmaticZebra  Před 7 lety

      Increasing the ram will help with any applications that are hogs of ram (with 12GB, those are pretty rare), and the more ram you have, the more stuff you can do at one time.

      best analogy is hard drive is to a file cabinet for storage as memory is to a desk. the larger the desk the more tasks you can do and it wont slow down. small desk shit is everywhere and you spend time searching and get bogged down....
