- when I got this old tractor it had a steering problem,, actually, no steering so I am taking the gear box out to check what's going on, it was kind of a trick getting the box out but much easier after I stood it up on end. / @gardentractorboy

Awesome video. Good Cole's Wheel Horse. In the late 70's my grandad in Carthage, MO had 2 Wheel Horse riding mowers. He used to give us rides on it or pull us in a cart. Back then they built mowers to last and out of thick steel. No everything is plastic and thin metal and doesn't last long. I have an old White Outdoors riding mower that's about 20 years old. Getting ready to restore it. I'd rather spend money on something durable than spend over $1000 dollars for something that's not going to last 20 years. God Bless you two and thanks for these videos.
yes these old machines were built heavy and stout the specs say this weighs 1025 pounds. the old Bolens and Craftsman also Wards were very heavy and lasted a long time , unlike the throw aways of these days. I'v been to Carthage a couple of times, I'm more in the middle near Rolla.
Thanks for doing these video's Vern. Keep doing them cause I like to watch real life fix'n and you tackle some tough stuff... Three years ago I was able to quit smoking, after 50 years, I needed Chantix to help me quit. Gained 30 lbs. the Dr said that's better than smoking.... Good luck with the steering... Thumbs up buddy.!!
congratulations on stopping smoking, I stopped in 08 but by that time the damage was done,, lol, all I ever get it old stuff that needs repairs but to me, that the fun part of it.
Nice job Vernon getting the steering gear out. Lifting it up really was a big help.
yes it is,, it would have to be jacked up anyway and this way there is a lot more room.
Good advice Vernon about the smoking. Thankfully God delivered me from it 37 years ago, when I committed my life to Christ. Only by His grace.
smoking is a very easy habit to get but very difficult to kick. back when I was a kid, that was the "in" thing to do, not just with kids but adults as well.
@@MissouriOldTimer Same here. I smoked for about 20 years
Hello Vernon,
You had my heart missing a beat or two when the rear wheels started moving whilst you were sitting there... I think I will be happier when the tractor is back on 4 wheels...
Take care.
Paul,,
I should have showed the pipe I placed in the cylinder area, the loader does bleed down a bit but with that heavy pipe in there, it can't go down a lot.
Thanks for the shout out and I am pleased we were able to help
you are welcome, I think we are back on the road to recovery.
I have laid on the ground enough times to realize you have the best method for working under your tractor. Going to use that method one day. Stevo
there are no fluids in this one now so I don't think anything will be damaged by doing it this way.
looking forward to seeing this machine repaired. Also nice that Garden Tractor Boy can give advice.
I have the bearings ordered and am making the bolt that was broken.
Looks like you and me both could use some Zerk fittings in our joints. I stopped smoking when I was 46.
I am 63 now. My lungs have bee smoke free for 17 years. Smoking messed up my smelling though.
I can't stand the smell of perfumes or chemicals or the smell of second hand smoke. Your getting the job done.
yes along with my breathing , my back and knees hurt too,, actually any odd smell bothers my breathing, like burning brush or trash.
They sure come in handy. Easy workings
oh yes, every time I saw your JD I was envious, mine is old but sure is a good helping hand.
Having a bucket loader sure is handy.
yes I always wanted one around here but never could fine one cheap enough, I got this one in Illinois for around 2500 , it's old but sure is helpful . I see loaders for old fords which are much like your tractor that are pretty cheap.
Very interesting video Vernon, would like to see how the box looks inside
the next one is me taking it apart,
Th best seires of wheelhorse ever made in my opinion the D seires
it sure is well built and heavy.
@@MissouriOldTimer I’ve been on the hunt to track down my grandpa D 160 that he had I think I have located it and it’s basically similar to this morning they’re pretty much all identical except for the model names were different
@@MissouriOldTimer with Slight variations in horsepower and choice of engine
@@Ellenslife851 yes, the engine might be different though.
@@MissouriOldTimer I believe yours has the onan 2600 RPM
I'm glad I quit smoking 20 years ago. It was the hardest thing I ever did and I only smoked cigars.
yes it's much harder to stop than to start, I guess that ranks among my biggest mistakes.
