I dug hundreds of post holes to make side money when I was in school and living on the farm. In Connecticut, there are lots of rocks in the ground that either stopped downward movement, or accelerated it if the auger caught at the edge. The auger would jump and skip, maybe break a shear bolt. Sometimes I had the good drilling you had. One day it took 6 hours to drill 30 holes, another day in another place, I could drill 30 holes in an hour. That day, I drilled 265 holes around a horse pasture. You are right about tamping. The post's stability depends on it, starting at the bottom and working the way up the hole. Nice job, Cole and Brian. So funny at the end!!!
It doesnt get much more rewarding that a straight solid fence!
@@SonneFarms One of our neighboring farmers built terrible fences. They used somewhat straight tree branches as posts. Never repaired broken wire just added a new wire, wires old and new criss-crossing the space between wobbly posts that quickly rotted at ground level. Countless times their cows or heifers would show up at our barn. In retrospect, it is amusing. Meanwhile, we worked hard to build a straight, solid fence.
