  • In this video, I meet with a friendly safe expert, Bill Deibert of Dependable Lock Service, and he explains how to safely store your silver. We discuss the best stacker safes for your precious metals, break down what really makes a good safe for silver and gold, and at the end I give my THREE PICKS for the best stacker safes! When it comes to properly and safely storing your silver bullion bars, silver bullion coins, and gold you need to make sure you protect your precious metals right! The best way to store your silver bullion can be a heavy, hidden, fire-resistant safe, but not all safes are good! Safely storing your silver should be a priority and Bill will help you chose the right gold and silver stacking safe for your needs and budget. Remember that when you are gold and silver stacking, the right safe can be the difference to coming home to home where your gold and silver are gone!

It sounds like the company is adopting a far better policy regarding the protection & privacy of your safe's combination. I believe it is too little, too late. I hope the parent company, (Monomoy Capital Partners), sells Liberty off to a competitor who has values more congruent with stackers and gun owners. I'm happy to see that you are revisiting this topic, Yankee.

Safes are a must but you need to remember . The weakest part of any safe is the owner. One thing no safe will guard against is someone breaking in and putting a gun to your loved ones head to get you to open it. No safe in the world will protect you from that. You must consider having a firearm to defend your home.

Just to add to that, the hypothetical guy bragging about how much stuff he has in his safe in this video might as well have no safe, because if the price is high enough, they will have no issues putting a gun to your head to open your tl-30 safe. People need to shut their yappers about safes. if people don't know it exists, they're not going to come looking for it.

My recommendation. First find a place to put the safe, they are big, bulky, and are usually bolted to the floor. I would only buy a spin dial lock, you don’t have to worry about batteries, and EMP will not effect it. I didn’t know what @strattuner posted, just another reason for a dial. I would recommend make sure to look at the thickness of the Metal on the door, the sides, back, and top. The thicker the metal the harder to cut. I would also recommend the concete filled, it extends the time in a fire. Mine is good for something like a hour. Also I got the salesman to throw in an electronic dehumidifier.

3 recommendations from experts when considering a safe:
    1. Always get a bigger safe than you think you will need, you will fill it up eventually, trust me on this.
    2. Always buy a UL-rated safe, profesional locksmiths recommend spending at least 10% of the total value of what will be stored in the safe when buying a safe, so if you are going to put 200k of PMs in the safe you should spend 20k on the safe at a minimum.
    3. If you want the contents insured you will need a UL-rated TL30 X 6 safe or better.

    • @NJBeachbum12
      @NJBeachbum12 Před 10 měsíci +12

No need to spend 20k on a safe. Go to a safe dealer and ask for a used jewelers safe. You can get a 4-5,000 pound TRTL30 or 60 for 5-10k. Concrete filled, stainless steel liner, anti drill plates, very thick steel.

    • @afdgxzghzgfhgfzhazghzdfhxf

UL rated RSCs are total garbage; you should clairfy which UL standard you recommend. I would recommend at least TL30 for silver.
You can get insurance for lower ratings than TL30x6. For instance a B-rating safe will usually suffice a $5000 insurance. X6 Would cover between a quarter and a half million, or even more with a burglary alarm.

One really good piece of advice when it comes to securing things in your house, obviously go with layers, you want this thing to be behind at least three layers, but you also don't want it on the first floor, especially if it's a heavy safe you are going to want it to be on the second floor or in the basement, but it's also really good to have a dummy safe like I do. I have one that is in plain sight and it sounds like it has some coins in it which it does, but it is filled with a lot of my electric bill statements with $30 in rolled copper-plated zinc cents

I will split the valuables up a little here a little there, and hopefully they will spend all of their time trying to get into thee big gun safe. I have the gun safe in a small niche in the office, that makes it virtually impossible to cut into the sides, and difficult to use a pry bar, because the door opening is next to a wall. I wanted a bigger one but the niche pocket determined the safe size.

Slap’s “Ten Rules For Storing Gold & Silver At Home” (note: the average home burglary in the US lasts just 11 minutes)
    1) If using a safe, bolt it down and load it with VERY heavy weights.
    2) Store some decoy/sacrificial coins/cheap jewelry in an easy-to-find location. Then hide the good stuff well.
    3) Unless you use a safe, NEVER hide your stash in a bedroom or bedroom closet.
    4) Same as #3, but insert “study” and “pantry”.
    5) Forget hollowed-out books, fake soup cans, etc… your stack will be stolen in less than 5 minutes.
    6) If using a desk, bookcase or shelf, make sure your hiding spot won’t be revealed if these are tipped over. Because they WILL be tipped over.
    7) If you’ll want frequent access to your stash… don’t make access difficult (behind drywall, buried in the yard, need a sledgehammer to get to it, etc.).
    8) Unless using a safe, the best spots are in plain sight and LIKELY TO BE OVERLOOKED, or they’re multi-layered (meaning you have to move this, shift that, lift this and open that in order to access your stash).
    9) Make sure someone you trust (spouse, financial planner, estate attorney, etc) has a sealed “open in the event of my death” letter describing where your stash is hidden.
    10) With the exception of #9 above, NEVER EVER talk about your stash or that it’s in your home!

Yeah, if you're getting a big safe or any safe, but especially given the outlay already expended on a big safe filled with things you want to keep, you build it into it's own alcove, so it doesn't worry about fire and is preferably hidden.

That 350 Lbs. safe isn't bad if you have 350 lbs. silver and 100 lbs. guns and ammo. 800 lbs. isn't easy snatch and grab unless there are a bunch of guys doing it together. Bigger question: how do they know you were keeping precious metals in there, or in your home? Best security: locked lips.

I would have a structural engineering determine if you could place a 1000 lb safe sitting on your main floor (if you have a basement) or second floor. Remember that the psi on which your safe is setting is much higher than you would expect. The smaller the contact area between the floor and safe, the larger the load. In other words, you may need added supports.
My issue came up with fish tanks--not safes. I was looking into upgrading to a 75 gallon tank. Such a tank fully loaded (water, gravel, etc.) would approach 900 lbs. The contact area between the tank and floor was quite a bit greater than that of a heavy duty safe, meaning the load the floor was being subjected to would be significantly less than with a 900 lb safe. I was advised by a construction guy (not an engineer) with twenty years experience not to do so without adding additional support. He thought I would be OK without it, but any weak spots could lead to structural damage over time. He also mentioned good luck having your insurance company paying a claim for damage done due to your negligence.

    • @Fanta....
      @Fanta.... Před 10 měsíci +2

Im pretty sure the outside keypad can be changed on most of these while the safe is still locked. The code and circuits are all kept in the inside. if the circuitry is dead, they will have measurements to know exactly where to drill to get it open. backup keys are a liability and generally only used as a secondary lock to create a 2 factor security (something you have, and something you know)

By the best one you can find. I do believe you can write your safe off on your taxes. If your house burned down you don't wanna find all of your papers GONE and you're Gold and Silver in a giant clump. We put concrete on all sides of are Safe. Which does give it a longer fire rating. We also remove all identifying marks. Along with many other Added protections.

I somestimes wonder if it's better to buy a cheap safe and leave it empty as a diversion so the thieves see it and steal it first. Meanwhile you have your gold and silver stashed in a simple shoe box hiding up in your ceiling somewhere.

Hiding is better than using a cheap guage safe. If the steel is less than the 4ga 3/16" range, then don't even bother. A saw will eat up anything less in fewer than five minutes. For instance Liberty Safe's best safe is only 7ga steel and they get sawed though like butter.

@Yankee Stacking. A few tube safes like the kind gas stations had when Cash was even before digital credit. You can install a few of them. Stash what you never plan on selling and tile over the top. You can put them below slab in garage ect.. House blows up/ no problem..Home catches fire, no worry.. Put a few small motion detection infrared cameras with battery back up linked to cell phone as well...They even have tubes for long guns..You would be surprised how many old timers still have tube safes installed..

Vulnerabilities of Liberty Safes was discussed at one time as far as the company providing the FBI with BACK DOOR entry, got me to thinking about other safe companies. Hi Yankee. I relied on smoke and mirrors for the longest time. I knew one day I would have to get a good safe. Good post that will help your fans have a better idea on what is out there and the costs involved. This fellas prices are really good.Take care eh. A friend of a friend turned his sofa into holding 4 large fire safes you wouldn't know they were there. Sitting on it apparently you would never tell the difference. He did the same with another piece for his long gun safe. Brilliant in my thinking. I would love to see them.

Wow, very informative, thanks for posting! I worked in field sales and one of my customers showed me his collection of what looked like hundreds of safes stored in a back warehouse, all ages, mfgs, types and sizes. It was an OMG moment. His hobby was safe cracking mechanical combination locks, a “manipulator”. He never said, however I suspect he kept his valuables in one or two of the safes. OK bad guys, guess which one??? Ha ha!!!

  • @gregsicinski8138

Graffunder safes are the Cadillac of safes with a Cadillac price to match. Then you can buy a Sturdy brand safe and have it custom built. Believe it or not, Liberty, Browning, etc gun safes are pretty easy to break into with a cordless circular saw and a Diablo steel cutting blade. Literally a few minutes and the whole side of the safe can be cut open. Graffunder, Fort Knox and Sturdy brand safes can be purchased with the body made of plate steel and stainless steel cladding to greatly increase the time time required to torch open a safe. Very important to look at what gauge of steel the sfe walls are made of. Also, look at the door gap of a Graffunder or Sturdy brand safe. You can barely get a piece of paper in the door gap. The door gaps on the other safes is plenty big enough to hammer in a wedge and pry the door open within 10 minutes or so. Plenty of video documentation showing how easy they are to break into. Yes, you'll pay more for a quality safe but getting by with a cheaper quality safe only gives you the ILLUSION of protection. I know it seems like I'm hyping three safe brands but do your homework. There are some really videos at the Sturdy Safe CZcams site that show how incredibly easy it is to break into the Big Box brands of safes. Finally, my personal preference is a safe with 2 S&G mechanical safe dials. Like buying a car. There's a ton of options for how to have your safe built so choose wisely for your situation and you'll be very pleased with the end result. P.S. Don't forget about your perimeter security i.e. alarm systems, dogs, and layering the levels of protection just to get to your safe. Best wishes and happy stacking.
