    I used C4D way back in the day and wow, it was so straightforward right out of the box. When I started my journey into Blender, I was met with one headache after another, and was constantly referring to tutorials on CZcams because the learning curve is steep. It's obviously gotten much easier now to navigate through Blender, but that's because of a combination of playing around with the software for over a year, and recent QoL updates. But I still think C4D takes the cake when if comes to ease of use. As for features... yeah, I definitely lean more into Blender.

      I have precisely identical feelings and experiences, though in reverse. I find Blender easy to use, whereas C4D is causing me headaches due to its UI/UX and navigation quirks :D

      I tried C4D and really liked it but refused to pay subscriptions. I thought Blender was amazing but I couldn't learn it fast enough. That's when I found Bforartists. A fork of Blender with an Icon driven UI but with all the awesome features of Blender. Plus a growing collection of tools and assets Blender does not have. It is the best of both worlds.

      @@noisehead Glad to hear that you've found your perfect tool of choice! I used C4D back in 2002 as my first introduction to 3D. Wasn't too serious about learning 3D back then, but I remember it was comfortable enough to allow me to accomplish my task quite smoothly (an art installation video). Curious to see how it's omproved since then 😀. One of the things I'd miss from Blender would be the gizmo-less (optional) transform and the modes of operation. I know some people hate the latter, but I appreciate that it allows the reuse of the same hotkeys for different purposes (modes), among other things.

      I think the most significant improvements to C4D are particle simulation and performance. After that I know that Blender has the advantage mostly because of the price. If only C4D had prices similar to Adobe it would be beautiful, but it is very expensive, and what can we talk about X-Particles, amazing particle plugin, as powerful as Houdini, but slower xd. Now... I will continue using C4D because of the compatibility it has with After Effects and Illustrator (Cineware), Blender and no other 3D program doesn't give me that.

    It's obvious that this video is biased towards Blender, but it's a good video anyway.
    I work as an exhibition booth designer and I've been using Cinema 4D for over a decade, and I love it. I would like to switch to Blender, especially because I want lo leave Windows entirely, and Cinema 4D is what is holding me on it, but there are some things that I do in Cinema 4D that I (think I) can not do in Blender. For example, in C4D I can apply one or more images to a group of objects just by dragging a material to this group in the hierarchy, without needing to deal with the UV mapping of those objects. In blender I didn't find a way to do that as easily in C4D, and this makes a big difference in my workflow.
    I'm considering to install an older version of Cinema 4D though WINE so I can still work on Cinema 4D in Linux and use Blender for other things.

    • @The3Dsmash
      @The3Dsmash Před 3 měsíci

      Isn't the Mac version of Cinema 4D quite stable? I would imagine on a newer M chip Mac, it would run fast. Not sure what renderer you use and if you need RTX for that. Then, that would keep you on Windows I guess.

    • @Arjjacks
      @Arjjacks Před 2 měsíci

      Granted, you can't drag and drop materials onto a group/collection in the outliner in Blender, but you can drag and drop materials from one object to any other in either the outliner or 3D view. And for lots of objects, you just select them all, then shift select the one with the material you want to transfer, hit ctrl>L and choose Link Materials. Done. And unless the material explicitly requires UV's to work, you don't have to worry about UV's either.

    C4D character rigging sucks, has inferior sculpting tools and doesn't have a fluid sim.
    Everything else this video talks about C4D does better. Pyro and the new particle system included. But it's one of the most expensive packages on the market and Maxon is very greedy. So that makes Blender awesome and worth it right out of the gate.
    Blender's parametric capabilities are dwarfed by C4D's. That is taking geonodes into account. Only Houdini and CAD software are better at parametric modeling and scene management. There is really no contest. ProRender is discontinued, now C4D has Redshift CPU built in to give you a taste of what additionally paid Redshift GPU is capable of. But Redshift CPU is still great and comparable to something like Corona.

      Blender could benefit from a rendering engine like Arnold to compete in the movie industry. While I appreciate Cycles, there are times when its results can feel too artificial for my taste, especially in terms of capturing fine details. I experimented with RenderMan for Blender and found that everything looked significantly better compared to Cycles, from materials to textures. Cycles seems to hide its weaknesses better in darker, moodier scenes, but when it comes to creating truly high-end renders with intricate details and accurate material behavior, it's better to opt for something other than Cycles.

      @@punmije Cycles has lots of cool features, great nodes that provide lots of control, but quality and realism are lacking without tricks. Arnold is great, I love it and it's my main engine these days. But Octane will always be my high school sweetheart. It's unbiased and based on raw physics as much as possible, a full, spectral path tracer. Octane is available for Blender and it has a 100% FREE option. It can have a distinct artificial look, but not to the level that Cycles has. It's definitely production and feature ready.

      Blender sculpting tools are very good. In C4D this is just gimmick, and I use it more as modeling tools ( you don't need to switch workspace, something I wish that Blender have).
      For real - professional, fluid sim... better use Houdini or at least realflow.
      btw. You have Redshift for Blender... and Free Octane.

      @@radoman1234 yep, Octane free tier is really cool. I have used C4D's sculpting tools for certain things (think sculpting fabric wrinkles), it's better than nothing, but for sculpting it's all about performance in my opinion and Blender has that dialed in, as well as just having more features. Curiously, outside of sculpting in my experience C4D's viewport and other modeling tools handle high-poly meshes MUCH better. Try selecting vertices in a 200+ million polygon mesh, Blender keeps you waiting and waiting between selections while C4D just does it instantly.

    Cut this crap cinema 4d is better with all the tools and plugins it has. If you can't pay for the tool just keep using blender which in my experience no one uses at the production level. Can you compare cycles with redshift??? or X particles with blender particle system?? or cinema 4d simulation system??? In every sense cinema 4d is better at the production level. When you are working with companies like Nike they don't give a fuck with which tool you are working with, all they want is good quality and blender currently lacks in terms of quality.

    There's a reason why studios and professionals use Cinema 4D

      If I am a professional CGI studio I would go for C4D, because it is not only that program, it is a complete ecosystem, like Adobe. Maxon has C4D, Redshift, ZBrush (which is still the best on the market for modeling) and last but not least X-Particles, which is on par with Houdini.

    C4D community is so dead and unhelpful, blender community is by far the most inclusive in the 3D space, making it easier to learn and ask for advice

    In this case someone need strong portfolio with artworks in both software to have some credibility.
    In short, another YT money grab.

    You know nothing about cinema 4d and even less about the latest versions!
    Cinema 4d is much better on certain points than blender. Even its new particle system blows up that of blender. This video is nothing more than a laugh!
