This is a good point, The heater unit and ducting is protected by the under trays (once refitted). The unit and ducting sits higher than the vans control arms and table so you would bottom out on these first BUT if you're often using your van off road or through floods then we would highly recommend to have an internal heater install.
Have been installing them in both orientations for over 10 years now and never had any issues relating to the water Vapor, I would imagine once up to temp they would be fully dried out! Only thing to watch out for being mounted underneath is driving through flood water or fords!
The exhaust finishes where the factory engine exhaust finished on some models certainly some of the newer ones. We have no issue with this but you should never run the diesel heater whilst the van is in a confined space (in a garage etc..). One thing we recommend on campers it to make sure you keep your sink bung in as engine fumes could creep up that way. All heater installs should have CO2 alarms installed inside just to be safe!
and longer depending on the furniture and where the battery has been installed. We've had some in where the battery has been built into the furniture with no access to it unless you start taking the furniture out! Everyday can bring a surprise!
Hi, the heater is an Autoterm Planar 2kw Diesel heater with comfort controller. Yes we also install these on the inside as it protects it more against the elements!
Not afraid of scraping and damaging the plastic duct when going over rough gravel or forest roads?

Great overview clip. What is your experience with sideways mounted diesel heater, is it able to dissipate any water vapour left in the chamber?

Any problem with the exhaust under the van like that?
Will the exhaust not come into the van?
