Btw. Old Man Zangetsu at all points cares and loves for Ichigo. He was originally surpressing his Shinigami x Hollow powers because he didn't want Ichigo to get into battles where he would get hurt and suffer. Eventually culminating in fighting His Majesty himself the real Yhwach. But its because Ichigo broke through all that and OM Zangetsu's own expectations that OM Zangetsu was like "I can truly leave you now." Almost like he figuratively died because he no longer has to watch over his "son?" lmao they have an interesting relationship

I watched the intro but i read this arc as it was coming out weekly when MangaStream was still around.
Peak Foreshadowing as Everything but the Rain + The Blade IS Me is the culmination of not only Ichigoâs character arc but the very plot of Bleach as a whole as this was foreshadowed back in the first arc in Ep 20 what Ichigo first met âZangetsuâ he tried to call out his name but there was a blurred bubbling sound, and in the manga his name was crossed out as Yhwach, so not only is it a casual âHow I met your motherâ/Romeo and Juliet romance story but the very balanced genesis and salvation of who we are, our conflicting personalities/souls at war with one another finally finding peace as the holy trinity from an identity crisis.
One thing Iâve always loved is how âZangetsuâ genuinely just wanted to protect Ichigo his entire life. One of the best characters in the show we rarely see.
"You want to protect this town, but what you want to protect isn't what I want to protect!" "Tesna Zangetsu"
Which now it makes more sense when he looked so young in bankai state, with his soul reaper powers increased so much in bankai, his quincy powers shrunk in comparison, unable to stay balanced with it.
The personalities of both zangetsus was inherited from his mother. A mother's love is their true nature.

There's one very-overlooked detail in this: the meaning of the title.
Fun fact: Ichigo and Aizen are the only ones who no longer have a Zanpakutou spirit.
Soul Reapers constantly have to commune with their Zanpakutou spirit to maintain a good healthy connection to their power. But these Zanpakutou are literally a part of them. This shows that they still have trouble fully accepting themselves, and may occasionally need communion in order to truly be at one with their power.
But Aizen and Ichigo fully understand and are at peace with who they are, now. Because of this, they no longer need a Zanpakutou spirit. They have reached that level of Transcendance Aizen mentioned when they fought, where they are fully merged with their swords.
Hence: The Blade Is Me.

Thatâs, in fact, wrong. Every Zanpakuto Spirit is a part of the userâs soul. Kubo wrote this from a buddhist point of view. There is no âseperate spiritâ just a different part of the soul.
The thing is Kubo mislead the readers when he first revealed shikai and bankai. Yoruichiâs explanation of the two just doesnât make sense. Why would shikai be âworkingâ with your partner, while bankai is for some reason subjugating it. Her point of view of what a zanpakuto comes from a âa zanpakuto is a weapon to wieldâ kind of viewpoint, similar to Zaraki. She knows next to nothing about what a zanpakuto really is.
The zanpakuto is really just a manifestation of the inner soul, which would be the zanpakuto spirit, a personification of a part of the wielderâs soul. The most obvious example would be with Izuru, as heâs almost an open book to see the connection between his personality and his zanpakuto.
âThe Blade is Meâ isnât just applicable to Ichigo or Aizen, itâs applicable to EVERY shinigami.

Here's the problem: Nobody ever truly knows their own self in their entirety. Everybody has their own inner demons that they struggle with, and many simply cannot come to terms with their entire self -hence the difficulty and seeming impossibility of transcendance in the first place. Ichigo and Aizen are among the only ones to have learned how to fully accept their entire self and to move beyond that sense of self and step into a higher plane of existence. Everybody else still has to have that constant communion between body, mind, and soul. Ichigo and Aizen now have that sense of oneness between all three.
LOL Aizen came to be at peace with how much of an massively evil egoistical asshole he is.
Isshin: "If I let the person who saved my life die because I couldnt make a decision... I know my future self will laugh at me!"
Masaki: "If I followed customs and let someone die today when I had the chance to prevent it, I know my future self would never forgive me."

Bleach has single-handedly made every Monday feel like an event and has officially become the greatest comeback return in anime history thus far as well as one of the best adaptations that any anime could hope for as it became the highest rated anime on IMDB, 9 week streak on Anime Corner as a popularity poll and possibly itâs anime of the season/year, and although not credible even the 1st top spot on MAL 3 Effing times during these past couple of months in a matter of only 10+ Eps, not seen before since AOT, all while despite countless people still catching up with the OG anime and not being able to see it outside of English speaking countries, meaning lack of availability unlike with others that have no setbacks!
First Cour had everything I was waiting on. Yamamoto Bankai. Unohana reveal and fight. And finally The Blade is Me. The best Bleach has to offer

In this 1st cour we have seen BLEACH tackle the themes of not only the overall main theme of this arc being the sins of old coming back to haunt them taking them down and making way for the new generation to take over to rectify those sins restoring the balance for the betterment of all existence but also Atoning for ones sins (YAMA-GOAT-O & UNOHANA WATANANA)
Entrusting the protection of a society for a better world by the innocent (Byakuya) Coming out of your comfort zone to facing the fears of war like never before (Soul reapers)
The possibility of love & peace between opposing forces (Isshin & Masaki)
The devoted religious puritan opening up to true natural love (Ryuken & Katagiri)
And finally the greatest Reverting ones roots to Self-Acceptance story ever told (ICHI-GOAT) since the man in question has always believed himself to be a soul reaper when heâs actually a Quincy Vizard firsthand, and a soul reaper afterwards.
Ichigo never needed any grandiose Goals like Naruto and Luffy, he needed to find, forgive and accept himself but instead only ever wanted a normal life and just trying to escape from it all by getting caught up in the world he does not understand.
To find peace and salvation, you must go back to your roots, understand you accept Bloodlineâs Legacy (JoJos) and accept your natural authentic self to live about the influences of the world, if itâs a shitty legacy that you are not proud of nor care for, change it and make it better for the sake of your children as the next generation (Sajin Komamura + God of War)
They own this year on motivation as the greatest pieces of Peak Fictional entertainment to Nonfictional Aspirations like no other.

Iâm actually a millennial and IMDB for the most part is the most credible ranking site for all entertainment even if itâs not always 100% credible and I already mentioned that MAL itâs not credible but itâs still worth noting since it happened more than once over a short period of time.
Also No, The anime will improve on everything from the manga making it no longer feel rushed and better written, as for CSM itâs only the best brand NewGen anime of the year, not the actual AOTY.

Because despite being apart of Ichigo's very being he can't reveal to Ichigo something he literally doesn't know. DAMN. Done even better in the manga of course. Just a shattered quote bubble.
Some fun facts:
- Auswahlen stealing Masaki's powers was the reason Isshin looked a bit non-plussed when he killed Grand Fisher, as he knew the real culprit was elsewhere
- The Gigai Isshin uses is an early version of the one Kisuke gave to Rukia, and thus why she was able to use powers not long after, as hiding her powers would also hide the Hyogyoku - with the Reishi tied to nothing, the return of her powers happened far, far faster than with Isshin, though the Hyogyoku sped it up
- Meru's timing (the red-head Zanpakuto girl) wasn't random - Nimaiya set it so she'd pop in an check on him after 24 hours had passed, figuring if he hadn't pieced it together by then, then there was no point in a return trip
- Hisagi already has Bankai, but he hasn't gotten a handle on it yet (like Renji during the Soul Society Arc)
- They deliberately didn't show Old Man Zangetsu in this Arc until now to help avoid people piecing together the connection with Yhwach
- Blut Vene was used with Ichigo before this Arc. Remember what Old Man Zangetsu said when he was fighting Zaraki? "I'm reaching the limit of my ability to stop your bleeding, Ichigo."
It's funny how "Hollow Ichigo" just kept saying "I am Zangetsu," and people just didn't listen. đ
When you realize that you met the manifestation of the final villain way before your even met Aizen....mind blown. There were so many subtle foreshadowing throughout the series about "Zangetsu's" true identity.
1. In the Anime sub version when "Old Man Zangetsu" told Ichigo his name, it was blurt out with only the last part being audible. He said "My name is...âŠ.ha."
2. Ichigo vs Kenpachi. When "Zangetsu" saved ichigo everything froze up and covered by shadows, "Zangetsu" explains to Ichigo that they are currently in the shadows which is a Quincies abilty/transportation.
3. During Ichigo's training with the Vizards. Ichigo asked "white" where is "Zangetsu" to which "white" replied "I am Zangetsu!"

Twice in the series someone has tried to tell Ichigo of his Quincy lineage. The first time was when "Zangetsu" and Ichigo met, Ichigo asked him "who are you" to which Zangetsu TRIED to reply with " Who am I? Don't you know, it's me---" and he was cut off by something preventing him from saying his name, Yhwach(won't spoil who does that).
The 2nd time is with Aizen trying to say he's the offspring of a Shinigami and a Quincy but before he could say that... Isshin intervenes and tells him "you talk too much Aizen" đ.
It all comes together here in a VERY beautiful way from Aizen's involvement, his mother & dad and even the MAIN villain being here this whole time.
There's also the fact that since the beginning of the series Ichigo has had blue cross bed sheets đ.
Against Kenpachi "Zangetsu" used Blut to stop his blood loss and boost his Reiatsu(offensive and defensive ability for Quincy's).
After that same battle "Zangetsu" transports Ichigo with the Quincy's shadow ability đ.
The mid titled cards for Zangetsu and Hollow White's name's were smeared in black ink for ep 13 đ just like how "Zangetsu" tried to tell Ichigo his real name it was blacked out in the manga.. Nah the staff COLD for that đ„đ€Łđ€Ł.
I feel like Zangetsu stopped "Zangetsu." From telling ichigo his name was Yhwach. It just kinda makes sense

I love how this end reveal how Ichigo was able to defeat Aizen. The Final Getsuga was the fusion of his Old Man Zangetsu (Quincy powers) and White (true Zangetsu and Hollow/Shinigami powers). He literally fused all of his powers into one before even knew he could do that lol
Now explain how Ichigo's father was able to teach him how to use it
@@voadoracobra5111 probably because The Final Getsuga Tensho is a technique exclusive to Ishin and Ichigo,probably even Ishin's dad too,,, since Ishin even stated that his own Zanpaktou, Engetsu, till this day still refuses to teach it to him

@@voadoracobra5111 Isshin didn't teach Ichigo Final Getsuga, Zangetsu did. The Getsuga's seem like hereditary techniques for the Shiba and that's how Isshin knew about it. But all Isshin did was tell Ichigo that their Zanpakuto don't want to teach it because of the side effects, and then held the tunnel open so they could take advantage of the time difference.
If you watch the first episode when Ichigo met his "Hollow side", he kept asking where was the old man. The hollow straight up screamed *"I AM ZANGETSU"* .
That exchange with Old Man Zangetsu and Ichigo was extremely heavy with emotions and probably one of the best segments of the Bleach series.
Taguchi's directing and Sagisu's music really elevated it to another level.
Its insane to think Dangai or Mugetsu Ichigo at the end of the Arrancar arc is basically the same level as Ichigo in his True Shikai now.
Nah, I would say that Mugetsu Ichigo was waaaay stronger than current Ichigo even in his Bankai state. Because remember, could counter a level 99 Kido spell by Aizen who was juiced off on that Hogyoku with nothing but his bare hands. But the pay off for Ichigo to momentarily gain that much power was him losing all of it. Sorta like how in Hunter X Hunter or Jujutsu Kaisen where their powers get more insanely broken the more they are willing to sacrifice in the form of "restrictions"
@@samuelmaingi6365 TD is right actually. Real Asauchi double it's wielder's power on top of the Old Man giving Ichigo total access to his powers as he did during the Arrancar arc. Yhwach confirms this later on in the rematch.
@@samuelmaingi6365 its legit confirmed in later on in the manga that true shikai ichigo is equal to mugetsu. Ichigo has like 2 forms higher than true shikai as well, so yes he is far stronger than mugetsu

@@In-The-Zone dont remember chapter but you can search the panel. I searched "yhwach compares mugetsu" and found it. But basically yhwach talks about how ichigo regained the "power to defeat aizen sosuke which he lost". The most you could do to despute the claim is say that yhwach was talking about dangai as oppoaed to mugetsu, but realistically true shikai should def be above dangai so its more likely mugetsu
When you go back at all the interactions between Zangetsu and Ichigo, you realized he never lied to him, always taught him something about himself and saved him many time...Both of them...That really changed the whole dynamic of those conversations ! Now the two of them will work with Ichigo, his dual Zanpakuto and full power unleashed !!

Roshi has that reverse poker face. this has been way better than the manga just by moving some scenes and adding some context. the fact that it took us this this anime to meet the original 13 captains is crazy.
For anyone that's wondering: The larger blade represents his Soul Reaper powers: The Hollow Within Him, and the smaller blade represents his Quincy powers: Old Man Zangetsu

I love the detail of Ichigo's inner world immediatley breaking aprt and being flooded because of his major despair

One thing I didn't understand is why was Ichigo's inner world pink (it seemed like it went back to blue after Zangetsu left behind Ichigo's full power)? It was blue all the other times. Was it just an artistic choice? It's been a while since I read the manga so I don't remember if we ever got color pages of his inner world.

It threw me off at first but I got used to it. At first I was like "Why is it pink?" but then as the season progressed I wasn't bothered by it anymore. It just caught me off guard with Ichigo's inner world because it was always blue until this point.
There couldn't have been a more epic shot than Ichigo flexing with his double zanpakuto. Can't wait for part 2đ„
1: the way Isshin protected masaki was just like how Ichigo did to Rukia.
2: the way the reveal was done was amazing. Itâs still crazy how the hollow that Ichigo always hated was really trying to protect him the whole time.
3: itâs still hard to fathom that Ichigo had only been accessing a fraction of his power this whole time
Kubo wrote some pretty amazing stuff here. If you go back through the story white is the ultimate protector like his mother was. They say white was pure instinct then he passed to masaki and learned how to love and protect from his mother (masaki) . When you look at it that way every scene we have with white from the beginning of the series completely changes and makes 100% sense now.

Btw Ichigoâs dad bankai is different since itâs a fire type and short range. Kubo also noted that technically no one couldâve pinpointed the connection between father and son just off of their bankia because captains tend to not show each other their abilities unless itâs a full scale battle. We donât know if Isshin showed anyone his bankai and Byuakuya actually is the only character to have seen Ichigoâs bankai in action đ
Btw Rangiku and Hitsugaya know theyâre father and son since they figured it out when they came to the world of the living earlier in the series. They just never said anything because they respected Isshin must have reasons for keeping silent for so long

Technically, Old Man Zangetsu shouldnât even be a *real* Zanpakuto because its form is that from a Quincy source but because Ichigo accepts that Old Man Zangetsu *is* Zangetsu as well deep in his soul it changes the nature of Old Man Zangetsu itself, making him Ichigoâs another *true* Zanpakuto
If you watch episode 112 again Ichigo's dad says that he never hated Grand Fisher, he hated that he couldn't save her that night

Im glad you guys caught that Katagiri didn't rat out Masaki out of jealousy or anything. She was actually concerned because she realized she was badly injured and needed treatment.
16:49 Against Byakuya he said "You're pathetic, Ichigo! You weren't able to control your spiritual pressure and your bones were cracking because of it! Now, I will show you how you're supposed to use Bankai!" and when they fought when the Vizards were helping Ichigo to control his hollow powers, Ichigo asked him again and again "Tell me! Where is old man Zangetsu!?" and he replied "I already told you. I AM ZANGETSU!"
But it was also being an asshole at the beginning of the Visored arc when he faced Yammy & Grimmjow. A lot of it is misunderstandings but sometime the Hollow was just straight up unhelpful in situations it had every reason not to be. Like the "getting closer" "take the body", etc... The dialogue in the inner world, the hollow trying to join the fight & it having more influence the more Ichigo uses Zangetsu makes perfect sense, but some scenes not so much.

@@Kal911 Yes but at times like against Yammy it did more harm than good, I fully understand against Byakuya & Ulquiorra, but at times it made the situation & misunderstanding worse.
Quite a few things were Quincy supression of Hollow which made it seem like the fault was the other way around, but sometimes it went way beyond berating & defending to survive, while some scenes have an impeccable characterization that fully lines up with this reveal.

One of the most subtle foretelling of Ichigo's Quincy lineage came during his fight with Kenpachi. When he was stabbed and he came back from his Inner World, "Zangetsu" (being Ywch) stops his bleeding using Blut Vene and keeps Ichigo going with Ransotengai until Kenpachi takes off his eye patch. His Quincy powers realize this is the extent of his help and has to rely on his Hollow power and uses it temporarily(which is why we see the mask in the last charge) to not only beat Kenpachi but keep him alive long enough to be rescued. Absolutely phenomenal storytelling.
It's cool how Quincies and Soul Reapers represent both Western Christianity and Eastern Buddhism and how Ichigo's Zanpakuto manifests this internal struggle between both theologies. It makes Quincy-Zangetsu's confession that he wanted to spare Ichigo from pain make all that more sense considering the goal of Christianity is to receive eternal salvation.
"The Blade is Me" has the same energy as "I AM HIM"
The fun part about this is going back and looking at little bits of the early story that all connect to the reveal of Zangetsu. Zangetsu and Ywach sharing the same Seiyuu being one. And when Zangetsu told Ichigo his name for the first time it was censored out.
Ichigo yelling âwait! Zangetsu! I stillâŠâ got me in my feels đą just as sad as when Naruto lost kurama.
All that's left is Luffy and Nika.

The artistic style of this adaptation of Bleach is amazing, I'm still impressed by how beautiful everything looks, Pierrot is using an interesting and unique technique in the setting of this new Bleach arc, an example when Ryuken is flying with Masaki, the sky seems real and the quincys effects are uffffffff a delight. Well there were 2 incredible chapters and the end with Ichigo getting the 2 swords leaves you wanting more and more.

I'm surprised Roshi missed the moment to say 'Serving these yams!' when Katagiri told Ishida's father it was her duty to serve him.
To think the story was planned out like this. All the pieces fit perfectly with these two episodes. Cause as soon as he got his sword things were weird. The hollow was one thing but something always felt more off with zangetsu. Especially during hueco mundo.
But this first part was perfect. And you guys brought the fun with this rewatch. Canât wait to see part 2 and come back here.

After this episode I went back to the Hollow White and Ichigo moments and White was always telling him from the beginning, "I am Zangetsu." And Old man Zangetsu has the exact same voice as Yhwach now. It's crazy how these things just slipped our minds.

if you go back to the first time ichigo meets zangetsu he says " my name is ___" it is blurred out but you can purposefully hear a " ha" at the end for how they pronounce ywatch. also in the manga instead of it being blurred out it shows the word, but it is covered with black paint. kubo said that it was from ichibe now wanting ichigo to hear his name so he covered it up / erased it. but overall this has been planed since the start and i love it
I like that now getting his sword was Easy For Ichigo.
From what we've been told usual, Shinigami get the base one just handed out to them ( or they just take it).
Ichigo not knowing shit about his or his inner self (an ongoing issue for him from the start when you think about it).
Renji didn't have that issue so it was easy to clear. Ichigo needed soul searching & after that it was easy too.

When this chapter first came out we pretty much already knew it was Yhwach by then. Since it was very obvious how similarly they looked and we had months to stew in our thoughts vs weeks. But it was still very amazing when I finally read it.
Masaki was saved through a "Soul Tie' literally lol. Kubo a real romantic out here.

I can finally say after reading the manga and waiting the 10 years for the anime to come back, It was SO worth the wait. The studio and kubo did such an amazing job adapting the source material.
If yall remember when ichigo was fighting white during the hollow training with the vizards he kept telling ichigo that he was zangetsu to hints were mad.

I know it's been a while since some people watched it, but the voice actors are the same for Old man Zangetsu and Ywach. That's more than we got in the manga and it seemed obvious to some back then as soon as Ywach popped up. Also, the into has had both those swords in there since the jump.....Can't wait til July!!

I just took a look back and a previous episode to confirm something, and if you look back at when I Ichigo was learning the final tensho, and when Hollow and (now revealed to be) Quincy Zangetsu fuse, I surmise that thatâs what his Bankai (human) form really looks like now.
Zangetsu kept saying âiâm zangetsuâ for a reason in the og bleach. This also shows ichigos been using a fake zanpakuto this whole time. A quincy weapon essentially with some of his soul reaper powers in it which is prob why it still let souls pass on instead of destroying them.

I'm sure someone else has mentioned. But his Hollow stated multiple times that HE was Zangetsu, but Ichigo always thought it was the old man. Although it was/is technically both, but his Zanpakuto is technically the Hollow.
A blue short blade for his Quincy power, and a long sword for a soul reaper plus now he has full control of his hollow power and still can become human the moment weâve all been waiting for is here ickigos true swords
His soul reaper powers are actually his soul reaper/hollow powers. There is no more individual hollow powers because they are all a part of him.

In EP19, when they first met, old man Zangetsu tried to reveal his true name to Ichigo but something/someone was preventing it! Insane foreshadowing from Kubo!
Remember whe Ichigo first met with white Ichigo? Ichigo vs white Ichigo. "Where the hell is Zangetsu". White Ichigo: "I am Zangetsu".
I swear, Bleach foreshadowing is on another different level. Its literally foreshadow it at the beginning of the Bleach. And now we know all the answer of the mistery. Kubo is da GOAT.

Something many didn't picked up in episode 12 is, how kr why zangetsu taught Ichigo the "Getsuga Tensho", a technique exclusive to Isshin? The moment Isshin attacked the hollow while connected to Masaki, both the hollow and Juha (trough Masaki) saw the Getsuga Tensho and both parted from there
Want me to blow your mind more? Early in the series, during their first encounter, Ichigo's hollow/shinigami zangetsu literally says "I am zangetsu" when Ichigo asks him who he is
Man, I got goosebumps when all the 'swords' knelt to Ichigo. Both eps were awesome and had so many good moments but that part? Fricking sick.
People should have figured it out sooner if they payed attention as old man Zangetsu and Yuha have the same voice actor. The poem at the end of episode 12 was said by Zangetsu. In the fight between Ichigo and Yuha "Nothing can be explained" was played which is Old Man Zangetsu's theme. White Ichigo never once lied in conversations with Ichigo, it gives a whole different meaning when he says "The King and his horse." Even the Asauchi looked like Ichigo when he got his Shinigami powers from the Urahara training at the start of the series.

Remember, that is just his Zanpakto. That is NOT his shikai or bankai!
It actually is the Shikai of his Zanpakuto because due to the amount of massive spiritual energy, that Ichigo has he doesnât have a sealed form of Zangetsu so this is basically a constant release as they call it we will definitely see the Bankai later

In Episode 19
"Zangetsu" try to tell him his real name yet ichigo wasnt ready for it, so he couldnt hear it, it wast muted and the end of Zangetsu words end not with (zangetsu)-tsu but "Ha" like "Yhwacha" and than white hollow told him he is Zangetsu... Tite Kubo forshadow this from the beginning.

I love how EBTR and how Isshin and Masaki meeting was a âprequelâ and ties up how Bleach started - Ichigo and Rukia meeting and how their story was one of destiny (as written by Kubo). The way they met was the same, the circumstances of their meeting - a shinigami saving a âhumanâ where the human then put themselves in harms way to save the shinigami. And most obviously the âYo, Iâve come to save youâ which was basically exactly the same. It truly does show the DESTINY part of the two characters would drive the story forward.
Itâs a shame that not many ppl understand the importance of Everything But The Rain and the lore/motifs behind it- especially what the rain represents in the story. The parallels are as clear as day and so beautifully shown whilst incorporating and ârewritingâ some of the most important (and iconic) moments in bleach along with itâs important motifs.
Establishing the destiny, human & shinigami, significant event under the rain, sacrificing themselves for the other and soul bonding themes.
The message the story was giving us was that an event of that type (meeting + bonding) results in a world changing event itself. Bleach isnât your typical Shounen is you truly read it properly, Kubo does a fantastic job in this way of writing
