  • In this video, I talk about the amount of reverb I like to use when I play and why sometimes the amount of reverb that you and your listeners actually hear is much less than you think. The amount of reverb you add is really your own preference but as I explain in the video, don't be shy when using it because it does tend to make the guitar sound much more lively and 3-dimensional. Let me know how much reverb you like to use! Leave me a comment and thanks for watching!

If I'm not mistaken, J. Kreisberg said if you do use reverb it should be in a two amp stereo rig to get the true spaciousness of the effect. Because when sound reflects in nature it bounces around from many directions rather than unidirectional, and having 2 sound sources helps to more accurately recreate that phenomenon.

Try it on a double ten pedal steel.(Stereo) Better than sex.

Two notches above 'Pipeline' is the best.

I've heard a few guys lately who use distortion with jazz and it sounds terrible. With distortion, you can't hear the voicings of the chords.

That was interesting, thank you. Never thought about the effect not carrying out that far. I sent you an email. Hope you get it. (reverb-less)

Delay can help as well in some cases! I would like to experiment more with it. Thanks for watching and commenting, Stephen!

Reverb = Space. It places your guitar 'near or far' in the mix. More reverb, more distance form the audience. A good idea is to cut some frequencies (on a guitar pedal use that tone pot) that way you can avoid the reverberation messing up your tone and dynamics. Just experiment and use your ears.
