TANCHJIM has just released the 4U , it's under 100usd offering for a single DD.....actually to be more precise its under 70usd!!!
It uses the latest DMT4 series driver , a PU and LCP diaphragm affair , put into a beautiful metal shell that brings as a party trick a 4 way adjustable "knob" style switch.
It's function is to affect Bass levels, taking it from a boosted over neutral of around 8db , to a rolled off under neutral of around 8db.
Said switch has a mini screwdriver included with the acessories that allows it's adjustment.
But what about the sound, you ask? Well to put it straight and simple, Highly Competent!
Let me elaborate, the 4U in the 0 setting ( most bass ) gives us what I like to call as very well balanced OMT sound ( organic musical technical )
It's organic because it sounds real, not coloured in a manner which can make it lack realism.
It's musical because said organic presentation , makes it versatile with multiple genres, providing fatigue free listening.
It's technical because the balance struck between the previous two qualities still allows for excellent soundstage, imaging, resolution and above all timbre and tonality.
So does this make the 4U the new reference at its price? Yes and No
The segment is flooded with multiple earphones and the competence level of some of them is on equal terms with the 4U.
This means the 4U is a solid option , joining other great market precenses such as the Simgot EA500LM and Kefine Delci.

enjoying my tanchhim 4u, i m treblehead n love all switches. atmospheric mode work with most music genre and monitoring or natural mode work for my rock&metal playlist.

Yeah I liked it more than the Delci, so ended up keeping the 4U instead. It's not really a baby Origin but it's probably the best "everyday Tanchjim" they've made. One thing I disagree with on most reviews is their preference for the atmosphere tuning, with several going so far as to say it's the only useful one. To me though the natural tuning is easily the best, because it's the most transparent and detailed. This IEM is definitely bassier than it graphs, not that it doesn't have rolled sub-bass, it does, but the midbass weight is so much that on the higher settings it starts to get bloomy and mask the mids details where 4U shines. I would suggest trying a weaker bass setting and recovering some with EQ.

Glad you like the 4u. Just to clarify, when I say it's a Baby Origin it's because the versatility of the tuning allows those that cannot go that far financially, to get a rough idea of what the Flagship single DD is capable of doing.
As for the alternative tunings of the 4u...I agree it caters for a wide audience, with varied musical taste and playback style.

@@akros9333 Yeah I get you Tony, I've just seen some others asking along the lines of "should I get this to see what Origin is like", but the drivers are just too different. If Tanchjim has two faces to their 1DDs this is one face and Origin is another, they have similar Tanchjim approach but the driver and techs set them apart. So to me 4U doesn't really represent Origin, but that's fine because if you like 4U you will be blown away by Origin, it's not just a better 4U but another level! Oh and looking forward to your thoughts on 61T, S08, and H60. H60 might be my upgrade from the P5 and I'll be set on Hybrids, that's what Origin did for my DD collection lol.

Is the step up to tanchjim origin very big from the 4U ? Would it be smart to try the 4U first to see if the tuning suits me? Does the 4U have enough vocal quality and sweet highs?

      @akros9333  Před 12 dny +1

I like the 4U more.....it's not a huge difference, but 4U is more musical and does have the advantage of the switch which allows for difference possible styles of playback.

Are tubes a sort of analog DSP? Do tubes add 2nd harmonics to the recording? Do tubes have a limited high frequency response compared to solid state amplifiers? Do they sound different and good?
Yes, yes, yes, and yes. But the added souce is not in the original recording.
