Home-Barista has an article about doing that with the Bonavita kettle that you can google (CZcams isn't letting me post links). I took the one from that site and added up/down/hold button control (my wife drinks tea, and I drink coffee, so we need to change the kettle temperature all the time) as well as relay feedback so I can be notified when the kettle has heated.

I'm currently trying to get my zooz light switch to work as a button with 11 chinese smart potlights and some contact and mmwave motion sensors and dialing in home assistant against smart tuya potlights has been tough. Just when i thought i had it 3 are offline im not sure if its the light itself they wont re sync onto wifi. I just had to put it on pause and use them in their on off relay function mode for now

It's a Sonoff NSPanel Pro, rooted with the HomeAssistant app installed. There's also a lot of switchplate cutting and sanding involved in that one, since it doesn't fit in a standard US multigang box.
