  • A nationwide cellular outage impacted AT&T and other cellphone customers across the country, preventing some people from making emergency calls.
The Dallas area was one of the hardest hit in the country, but outages were reported nationwide, including in Houston, Los Angeles, Chicago and Atlanta.
LiveNOW's Lexie Petrovic spoke about the impact of the outage with Michael Martin, the CEO of RapidSOS.

Well there was a meteor that flew over that area the night before this happened. Could have been their spaceship. It was a very bright light in the sky that apparently happened without any warning. But there was also a couple of X-flares that occurred just a few hours earlier that could have affected satellites, and less likely, terrestrial communication networks. I smell a cover story, though. It's really obviously a cover story the way they're going on about all of this.

2:38 - first off he's speaking to an American network, secondly why does he have to emphasis "US" ?
Worse the 9-1-1 system that "was developed in the 1960s and the 1970s" is a flat out lie! Back in those days they created it originally as a three digit telephone number to emergency dispatches in many municipalities. When it comes to processes and technical enhancements that was surely later on. Parts of emergency calling is antiquated but not the number!!!

Whole thing stinks of a cover story for either the solar flares causing more issues than usual (which is possible if the magnetosphere also took a big dump when they occured) or a hack or that meteor that flew over Northeast and Midwest wasn't just a meteor.

My phone has been feeling hacked and constantly being monitored ever since and even before now. 911 Call Centers are typically really busy between the hours of 2AM through 4:30 AM! I'm surprised that 911 calls don't get routed to the Philippines since they have GPS.

Im still curious if we are being told what truly happened. AT&T has been saying very little throughout and after the outage, which confused me. Last i saw they are claiming an update to their network caused the outage - but personally i dont see them allowing an update to cause a national outage & them not being able to correct it quicker. Also if it was a cyber attack would the govt or at&t even tell us that? I think they wouldnt as to not cause panic everywhere. Ive really got no clue but thats just my thoughts

The U.S. should scholarship computer programmers, and software + computer hardware engineers to prep an "army" of anti-hackers going forward!
Also, our Emergency Preparedness plans should add minimum distances between public access hard - line phones (under & above ground easily repaired wiring) that can be run "off line" if needed.

Doesn't anyone here have any brains? If it really were a strong enough solar flare, it would have taken out all cell phone service - not just AT&T's - and not to mention other telecommunication infrastructure. And don't say that customers on other networks were also affected: Many smaller providers are MVNOs which use the AT&T Cellular Network, and the people who reported T-Mobile and Verizon were out likely had service all along and were just trying to contact other cell phones connected to AT&T.

@@chimebirdplayer3327 it's the dunning-kruger effect at work my friend.
the most likely reason was probably partial failure or slowdown of a 3rd party service upstream to the carriers. It could an IMEI database service or a SIM database service that all carriers use failed intermittently or the connectivity between the carrier's core network and upstream 3rd party component slowed down due to a bad rollout of a software patch .. but yeah, it certainly was not the solar flares ... and it most likely was not cyber-security attack.

IF solar activity is all or part of the issue, satellite service is probably useless, just saying, A CME that charges the atmosphere with multiple frequency static will probably blank the satellite capabilities at both ends. For the most extreme example we have seen google the "Carrington event", we need to harden our power and communication systems to protect against as much damage as possible, but it is not cheap
