What do you do, if you need to make a call in the middle of nowhere, like if your car broke down and you need a tow truck? Also cellphones are useful to get around in areas that you are unfamiliar with or to check how far a traffic jam is.
You do not need to write down your directions before you leave the house. GPS gets your location from satellites, it gets map data from cellular towers. So just download the map region on your phone over WiFi before leaving. Your phone still knows where you are, and if you download the map data, it can still navigate you without service. It just won't have live traffic data.

As soon as I lost service this morning at 2:30am I noticed that as well I couldn't access voip wifi calls. Which is mighty weird considering I often use voip wifi calling for international. I miss having a landline sometimes.
My ATT service has been down for over 6 hours here in Omaha, Verizon and others work fine, I think this is just AT&T. The others just complain that they can't call people on ATT. My phone has shown SOS all day. Guess I'm going back to Verizon.

Truth is all carriers are being connected to a main server . So that they all can be tracked, monitored, and or disabled at once by one source ! ever watch 1984 ?
An interesting test I think of the US communication system. This is All only ATT..... It demonstras that ATT needs to be Broken up again. Calling yourself another name, but in control of 3 phone carriers is a monopoly.
Some of you have kept your land line phones so if there is a power outage, our phone will still work. With a land line you would not get an interruption if our satellites were shut down. It is interesting that your phone companies are trying to remove the land lines because most people use cell phones. Your cell phones and your phones using wi-fi signals would not work if you had a power outage.
The fact the at they haven’t said why says exactly why. Ands It’s not just phones look at the internet providers, starlink, Microsoft 365, Wells Fargo bank.all down started at about the same time Look at all the outages at downdetector it’s other things too. And that not because their phones are down or they wouldn’t be able to report them being down.
It's more likely that att has a few overworked idiots who were updating the servers during the time when this outage started. When they discovered the problem, major cities were already affected.
Here in Oregon my 5g apple i phone stopped working but my 4g 19 dollar flip phone on the same plan worked fine and even played a youtube video without an issue. This was a 5g problem The older 4g worked fine.
