  • Swindon almost cause an upset at Upton Park - but after Trevor Anderson is denied a clear goalscoring opportunity following a professional foul by Tommy Taylor, Billy Jennings gives West Ham the lead - Peter Eastoe equalising for the Town to take this FA Cup tie back to the County Ground.

Those were the days. I went to every FA Cup match that season, bar the replay for this one.

The replay at swindon was amazing. With an amazing atmosphere. West ham bringing a massive support to Swindon.

I went to every West Ham cup game of the season, except the replay following this one - I was working anyhow, but after this display, capped by Tommy Taylor's rugby tackle, I don't think I would have had the enthusiasm to go. As someone else has said, Brooking majestic in the mud, but he was even more majestic in the 5th round against QPR. Then of course there was the downpour at Highbury ... you see kids, the sun didn't always shine then!
Let's hope this season is more settled than the Europa Cup has been.

Fantastic stuff, as a West Ham fan since 30 November 1974 it was a great thrill to see this for the first time ever - many thanks for uploading it! Terrible pitch, worse barnets and end to end footy... a proper 70s cup tie :)

Went to all the West Ham FA cup games that year never missed one. I remember the Swindon equaliser well, what a shock. Didn’t falter in the replay though … I was there.

Love the intro to the Big Match -what a save that is by Mervyn Day (I think) versus Chelsea at 00:25, amazing reflexes, a bit unlucky with rebound...

What a great effort from Swindon. Totally deserved draw, and could've won it not for the blatant foul. Playing on a mud bath like that, credit to both sides for such an entertaining game.

One thing that has changed is the cameraman/ press photographers who used to gather almost on the touch line behind the goals. Health & safety bollocks would never allow that now.

God I enjoyed watching that, didn't even know this footage existed. A brave performance by Town, & you can feel the underlying confidence in them. This was a couple of years before my first game so I saw a few of these players in a Town shirt (not Eastoe, unfortunately). Amazing that the ref said "there's no way I could've sent him off"! Shows how times have changed. Bit of a scuffle after Town's goal, made me chuckle.

My 1st game at West Ham with my mates, I was 11. Stopped going regulary quite a few years ago - the game has got boring with too much acting/diving (cheating), which is a pity, use to have some great days out.

Is that the same commontator from the league Cup final when Swindon played Arsenal in 1969

Everything about this is so funny. From the haircuts to the style of football. The pitch, actually looks in reasonable nick for a 1970's pitch. Some of them were. Actually after watching 10 minutes - no that pitch is not good. lol

Upton Park a terrific ground as it was so tight with about 4ft between goal & spectators & thus always produced great games espec with Liverpool I feel. Brian mentions Swindon's pitch as difficult but West Ham pitch slowly disappeared before our eyes. It was like it had been sprayed green! Tommy Taylor's pro foul was a disgrace to West Ham's playing ethos.

HEY YOU! YES YOU!!, 21st Century Football. THAT THAT & THAT is what football is all about. 35,000 supporters jammed like sardines into West Ham's ground. And the pitch, luvely grass & sticky gooee mud with puddles. Today's players would faint with PTPD - Post Traumatic Pitch Disorder. They wouldnt have a scoobee doo what to do on it would they. Players then would crack on with all the variations a pitch gives back then. Not now, perfect perfect boring boring. Great match tho Tommy Taylor should have been sent off, especially so unlike the West Ham ethos. Has any other club got a closer goalmouth net to terrace wall at Upton Park? They might of just had two piles of clothes! Sadly another great club ground gone ending up as executive millionaires flats or suchlike & from a very tight ground, so special, to a pitch were its the complete opposite as so far away like the old Wembley Stadium. Plus, West Ham put out their first team against the Swindon minnows with respect, as all First Div teams did back then, who doesnt luv a Cup run. Now, they put out their reserves & hope to be knocked out thus to hopefully protect their Premier Lge status & squillions of loot, as that is all it is about. Great video & great football commentator Brian Moore. The Best of Days & thank god, thru CZcams, we can relive them.
