Life Hack: How to fix a dirty and scratched DVD

- For anyone who has a DVD that keeps skipping or freezing, this hack is for you. If the freezing / skipping is due to micro-scratches, here is a hack to fix it: Apple a small amount of oil/grease - your forehead has enough - and smear it around the DVD. It will fill in the micro-abrasions just enough so that the eye of the DVD reader will be able to read and play the DVD. Enjoy! And be sure to subscribe! :)

Hey viva frei what do u recommend to clean deep scratched ps2 disc's & and another ? Is it possible to play blu ray dvd's on the ps2
Hi, I have a question. There is a used TV series on ebay I want and no one else has the whole series but one seller. Yet, on one disc he says there are a few light "play marks" on it that are visible in bright light. Is a play mark a type of scratch? Best Buy Geeksquad are not picking up the phone for me to ask this basic question. I am still very interested in the items and thought if the disc does skip or something(hopefully it won't), I could try your method of fixing the disc since it seems to help so many. Thanks in advance and I hope you and your family are well and safe.
@@brandonmclean8562 for deep scratches cover the surface in toothpaste, plain toothpaste, then peanut butter on top, then remove all with a cloth or paper towel (do not use anything to wipe/buff that may add scratches) then repeat those steps for a second time but don't wipe/buff instead place in an airtight container with diet coke covering the disc. Leave for 3 mins or so then remove the disc and wipe/buff (as it's wet thus will be more difficult now but well worth it) your scratches will be filled. If it's still not perfect then the next option is fine grit sandpaper (2000/2500 grit) to resurface the DVD completely.

Couldn't get any sweat or grease off my forehead, managed to find a old tin of Duckhams in the garage worked a treat.
This worked!! Dang I was scared it wouldn’t work but it did!! My notebook dvd was alllll scratche dup from moving and this saved it!! No skipping or freezing at all!!

YOU SAVED ME!! i just bought a new second hand dvd that i had been looking for, forages and i finally found it, but it was skipping when it got to a certain part, and this fixed it right up!! i used baby oil and a regular antibacterial wipe!
I was watching a DVD I bought used and it scratched for 3 minutes. I skipped the scene and moved on. I found this, used the tips, and watched the scene-uninterrupted! Thanks a lot, I did not waste $3 after all! :)

Looks like a very tiny smudge of canola oil on a cotton ball can buff scuff marks off of an acrylic dvd case as well. Thanks for the idea, man!

Oh wow! I just did this to my DVD and it isnt scratching. I used a tiny amount of baby oil. Thank you for this because I really wanted to watch this movie...lol

If you have tissues with lotion in them do you need the oil still or will it even work? I have a disc I got used and it has small scratches and I wanna know because my disc doesn't work.

Tried watching an old dvd I had and found out it somehow got damaged by cleaning products throughout the years. Almost threw it out, found this, and you just saved me losing a rare piece of old content I\d never be able to watch again otherwise :)

Cause I borrowed a DVD from my local library and it has fingerprints and scratches like people just does not care about people’s feelings and they don’t care about the library. Do I have to do it twice though? Like I said it’s double sided. The movie/ show is ‘IT Mini-series’ imma try though

One tip is to wipe it from the center of the disc to the outside edge. I don’t know much but from what I’ve seen that’s the best way to wipe the disc.
One of my DVDs has a crack on the back and it still works until chapter 6
With a crack on the back, the metallic data layer has a crack, so that dvd is not reparable.
Nice video, one note though, there's actually no such thing as a kleenex. Similar to q-tip, and band-aid, it is a brand name. These items are called tissues, cotton swabs, and adhesive bandages respectively.

Jacob Mathews it should, just don't go crazy with the oil otherwise you will ruin the sensor on your DVD player :-)
