- This week I had the pleasure of unboxing a new watch for a friend. Turns out it was an Apollo 8 50th anniversary Speedmaster in an incredible black ceramic case. You'll see I had no problem whipping off my Rolex Submariner to get this one on.

That is an amazing piece of timepiece. It looks amazing with the partial skeleton dial and so unique comparing to other Speedmasters. the polish and brush ceramic case is so cool! Love it
Can't go wrong with a speedmaster! very lucky to unbox something like this
Great unboxing. I love my Apollo 8, it’s a truly unique timepiece and really pops when it’s on the wrist
Well done on your latest review, your passion for Omega and the Speedmaster is clear to see.
This is a beautiful piece and super fun unboxing! These are hard to get right now. Appreciate the unboxing.
Absolutely magnificient
What a stunningly beautiful watch. Thank you for showing us.
what a great gesture and a lovely watch
Looks great, I think it may be my favourite speedy and all that lume is fantastic.
I love this version, and want one as my next watch 👏
Not my type of Speedmaster (I own a 105.012-65) but boy what a complex dial. You never get tired of that! Very nice review.
This make me want the Grey-Side! LOL! The OG Dark Side is perfection!
What a beautiful version of the speedmaster! Just came across your channel and subbed!
Came up in my suggested videos. Shame I did not find your channel earlier. Great review. Subscribed.
Another great video Andy, can't beat a good Omega.
I love this Watch 😭😱😩
Omega definitely make the best boxes for their watches
very nice i love it.... cheers
Your Submariner says, "why don't I come in a box like that?" That's a fabulous speedy.
Not sure if you guys gives a shit but if you are stoned like me during the covid times then you can watch all the latest series on Instaflixxer. Have been watching with my gf recently :)
@Dominik Samir definitely, have been watching on instaflixxer for since december myself :)
It is a very nice Speedmaster. I own a normal hesalite Professional Speedy, but this one would still clearly be a nice addition to the collection.
God I love this watch
Yellow and black ,,, helllooooo!
As mentioned when it was released, die hard spaceflight fans don't see the link with Apollo 8 ... yellow & black go great together but yet another " special " Speedmaster of " 13 in a dozen " !
Beautiful watch. I have the 3861 and couldn’t be happier! Could I???
Not kean on the strap myself but the watch is gorgeous with amazing lume
The most interesting thing about the lume is that the Omega logo on the crown actually lights up as well
Yeah, forget to mention.
Great review! Many thanks for the macroshots. How is your wrist size? Thanks!
I have a 6.75” wrist. Black and ceramic wears smaller than the steel equivalent.
Cette référence devrait prendre de la valeur car sa production est stoppée par Omega.
Une nouvelle DSOTM avec un mouvement automatique donc plus épais devrait arriver cette année.
Hello, I just discovered this beautiful watch for myself. Thank you for unboxing. Could you possibly tell me the dimensions of the watch cushion. I only need the height and the length (i.e. from lug to lug) of the cushion. Thanks very much!
Hi Andy, another great video. Can I ask, do you take a dedicated watch insurance or keep them on your household? Just curious as I’m wondering if one has any benefits over the other!
I keep them on the household. All as named items. Costs around £100 per year extra. I looked at having a separate policy, but was way more expensive. They’re covered inside and outside + on holiday, so no worries. The Rolex is insured at its replacement value though which makes a difference.
Ive eventually gotta get a Speedmaster. You know which Omega is calling to me first? The Seamaster Railmaster. I just love the design
Always go with the heart. Best of luck.
Hi Andy Nice review when are you going to review the omega blue ceramic planet ocean watch.
It’s in progress.
Wow that watch looks absolutely massive in your wrist, is your wrist small? I’m a diver and am used to carrying large watches but this watch just looks too big for your wrist.
Compared to Omega the Rolex box looks like something you'd find Cracker Jacks in.
Great video/ stunning watch. No need for the pouch on airport scanners. I have always worn my DSOTM .. Zirconium Oxide ceramic is scratch proof and scanner proof, So a good travel watch choice. Also black is nicely understated / too much bling can be a bad thing when traveling. Zirconium Oxide is also very abundant on the moon - surprised Omega marketing never pushed that... the Moon dust watch :0)
A derivative of Zirconium was also a key element in the Moxie experiment - another key NASA record - producing Oxygen directly from the Martian atmosphere.
Great looking watch, to bad its too big for my taste
😀😀😀😀
Still loving the omega that’s for sure 👌👌
Do you guys buy this kind of watch only to collect them (put in your closet forever and watch them sometime) or you actually wear them?
If it was mine, I’d wear it often as I do all my watches. My friend is usually up to his arm pits in car parts, so doesn’t get the opportunity. However, it marks a successful period of his life.
I own two Apollo 8 Dark Side of the Moon Speedmasters and they’re both unworn. The back stickers are still in place. But that isn’t to say that I won’t wear them someday. When I fly into space I’ll have one of them on my wrist.
ha ha ha.. you became 20 years younger as soon as you put on the apollo 8 watch on your wrist 🙂
Are any speedmasters self winding? I have a PO and love the heritage of the speedmaster, but I could not live with a self wind, i know I'd forget and as a tool watch I wouldn't want it running out on me.
Yes. The Speesmaster Racing and Dark Side of the Moon (non Apollo 8) are auto winding. I love the simple DSotM. Auto wind, date function, column wheel chronograph. Excellent watch. The Racing series can feel a little hefty in steel, as does the Mk2. The classic Speedy Pro is my favourite and best value. You’ll only forget to wind it a couple of times.
@@TheEnglishWatch Thanks for the quick response, was busy watching your history of the speedy video. I may have to venture into a boutique and take a look...! Addictive (and expensive) hobby!!
Dive in.
@@TheEnglishWatch Is the lume greenish or more blue?
Never go full TGV.
I'm thinking of getting this, would you recommend it over a Daytona?
Unless you’re very familiar with your AD, you’ll need about 15 to 20k extra for the Daytona. They don’t compete on a stylistic level either. The Apollo 8 is a great edition to any space nuts collection, but is also beautifully finished and ceramic. The Daytona is nice, but unobtainable.
@@TheEnglishWatch TYVM for the reply I was more referring to the aesthetic vs the price. I know the Daytona is much more expensive but I just love the Omega look
This Omega is very special and I love the yellow on black colours. Ceramic on leather makes this super light on the wrist with the black cheating the overall size of the watch. This all black affair is a tough comparison to the Deytona, a watch I admire, but one I haven’t had any time with. These watches play different roles in my opinion, so both would exist nicely in a collection.
Over £8000 for a lump of plastic, leather, and metal that tells the time with a nice box 😅
that's all luxury watches.
What an ugly watch.
Interestingly, the ceramic case and bezel look like they are chrome-plated in this video. I was expecting a dark matte finish.
