I like the way you drive. Sensible and level headed. Kudos on the mod.
Best vlog entry yet. Can't wait for the launch down the rosd. And you are seriously pulling my chain and upgrading to mk7 R platform and staring all over, despite being as happy with stage 1+ on a mk6 R, which feels just like you described when you had your epiphany! Thanks man, keep up the good work!
congrats on thoughtful upgrades. Thanks for sharing.
I love the drama that the Golf seems to capture. I remember driving with my parents and they were always saying 'mind the speed limit' while not near it at all or maybe close. Have fun driving it and be safe!
Amazing how quick the car accelerates and shifts. I definitely wish I got one of these cars.
Great video, i'm going stage APR stage 2 next week , got the IE intercooler on , Turboback Powervalve exhaust going on this week , DSG tune already done , totally agree, a great all rounder of a car and ticks all my boxes .
Glad it's where you wanted it to be. Been watching you since your 1st R video.
Stage 2 Mk7 R is my dream car. I currently own a full stage 2 Mk6 GTI. The bolt on performance gains make the golf R such an incredible daily !
Just skip to 13:56 for the panty dropper moment you can thank me later. 🇹🇹
Shimon La Hée thanks
nawzy202 your welcome.
Shimon La Hée panty dropper? that was booooring. this car is a fucking ipod.. 5min stage 2 tune what have you learned from tuning this vehicle? how to connect a laptop to the ecu.. here you go, a Honda civic is better in a lot ways same as the golf r is better in a lot of ways, but civic would be more fun. definitely not a panty dropper..
Yeah a Civic is more fun...cuz you can't afford a Mk7 Golf R.....loser
I can't afford? I'd rather buy a civic and make it the way I want it. Or at least a mk1 mk2.. everything after that just looks the same
I subbed because I see potential for this channel based on the content. keep it up, bro!
the open air intake really allows you to hear the turbo and I love it.
I've had Eurodyne on my mk7 for almost 2 years now. love it.
Go stage 3 with your first check as an Attending! LOL. Glad you love the car, all over again!
love the camera POV and that golf R! Subbed!
Amazing that you have the time for these great videos being in med school...
I did eurodyne stage 2 engine and stage 1 dsg , it's awesome now !!
I like the do it yourself approach you have to the car.
Pretty quick tune just like the cobb for the RS.
I could see you doing a bigger turbo one day.
Enjoy.

Keep up the good videos! Love it!
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 thank you man for making these vids!
My APR Stage 1 to Stage 2 difference was night & day from the get-go with my 16 Golf R manual. To prep the car for the tune, I put in an APR intake and FMIC, then upgraded the clutch to a Southbend Stage 3. The new heavier clutch adds to the old school muscle car feel.
Looks like DSG tune next!
So happy for you! Love the videos and my guess would be a DGS tune?
I just got a catless downpipe on my MK5 gti, looking to go APR stage 2 here shortly. Ill def have to check out those o2 spacers since im also in NY!
wow amazing video lol thanks for making this. i think im in love with ur car lol but dammmmn that dsg shifts so quick!!! wow.... btw i hope all ur monitors are "ready" so u pass NYS inspection
Hahaha I noticed you weren't too happy with the results in your first gas before the u turn. I had very similar feelings for stage 2, u can only feel it in the first 3 gears. Noticed how happy you were after the u turn, very similar reactions to yours. Cheers bro
I have Same exhaust setup as you, the valves closed at crusing does make a big difference, but I wired up a switch for the flaps, so I can turn them on and off whenever I want.
How did you wire up a switch for this? I'd be very interested, and I know there's a switch available but its quite expensive.
zed4me if you remove the kick panel on the drivers panel. The power supply to the flaps goes to a connector there. I cut the wire and installed a switch and mounted by the obd connector, cost me a couple dollars to do. Only down side is that it throws a fault but no check engine light due to it not being emission related.
bad ass man.. i would love a stage 2 R these days..
dood.. my stage 2 wrx doesnt rev anywhere near that fast in 2/3rd.
Stage 2 wrx around what, 250whp? The R is probably pushing mid 330-340whp.
270WHP/300WTQ. but the R is still a lot faster.
Wow nevermind I think I underestimated the wrx.. That's pretty good. But yeah I'm not sure, maybe its the DSG but ever since owning the Golf R, driving an STI isn't as exciting as it used to be.
but i still gotta be real. i love the look of my WRX a lot more than the Golf R, as it currently stands. But a stock looking WRX, I prefer a Golf R.
I have the Eurodyne stage 2 on a VW Eos. I don't have sticky tires- drive too many highway miles. BUT- just like you - my butt dyno says there is a huge difference ( I just broke the first cat out ( sounds stock quiet ) with a nice boost gain!!
DSG Tune! As for the exhaust flaps, if they act like they do on my 2016 DSG, they usually open in 1st gear or above 3,000, so closing them wouldn't solve your drone *at* 3,000, but might tame anything below it. I had mine open for a couple of months, but closed them today in anticipation of a longer road trip where I didn't want excess drone.
Very cool zed4me! We bought a Golf R about the same time you did and it's been fun to follow your mods. I'm going to guess that you picked up a Eurodyne stage 1 DSG tune. I know that I don't really like the DSG in S mode, room for improvement there. Keep up the great vids!
sounds great!
Great car and video.I have a mk6 R.I have a turbo upgrade now I have the EFR 6758.Now I have 463 hp white 100 octane ;)
Nice video with lots of great info on Golf R mods! I bet it pulls really nice now! I've always flashed my 05 Jetta's ECU without a tender and that was even with a weak battery. I always make sure all electronics are off. So far so good. Also, couldn't you just flash back to a different file that wont throw any codes when taking it to Emissions?
Drove right by my house! haha awesome video.
Very sad we don’t have stage 2 anymore in California. I just completed my stage 1 with a APR FMIC on my 2016 Golf R
great video. only have a mk4 1.8t but next car will be a mk6 R or gti. I had a procharged G35 which you can see in my video and I swear this VW could keep up.
Great car!
Hi zed. Please do a cold start rev and outside acceleration so we could hear what the car sounds like outside
wow after 2700miles on this car I started to learn its awesomeness. I won't stage it any soon, tons of ability to exploit yet. track day first. But, happy for you! It's definitely awesome at stage 2! Please let us know how these modifications stress the clutch? list of upgrades?
Resonator delete is what causes significant drone. I regretted it after a year because it started to drive me crazy on longer trips on the highway.
I should have sprung for the R, but it was such a long wait for one and I got a killer deal on my '16 GTI. I think maybe in a couple years I may trade in for one.
If you planed on really making more HP, I think it's racing line is the brand, they are taking the Is38 turbos and replacing all the internals with their internals, so it will be like a built is38. They're claiming like almost 500whp with this is38, or wait till jb4 comes out so you can stack on it on top of your Ed tune, run meth or e85!!
I just went eurodyne stage 2 with a resonated dp i also drone right at around 3000
Great mod. You need an intercooler now!
Zed what downpipe did you have and which one did you end up switching to?
Most stage2 software will cut the oxygen sensor out. Since it normally requires a test pip or HFC.
I’m catless with a JB4 and my car doesn’t run lean at all. Getting AFR in the low 13s
Where about's is the slight drone again? 3,000rpm? got it
my 24 valve VR6 did his around 2800 rpm. I think it's a common VW thing
what about the transmission is it reliable since it has dsg
When you say drone is the stage where some part of the car vibrating right. That is true, i have the same prob with cat less down pipe. However, It is gone completely if you on manual shift
It's still there on manual shift
zed4me not if u shift at the right timing.... that happen only if you shift it too soon. Try higher RPM. Great car love it, pity due to tax We have pay 3x at least of what u pay for there
So you finally got the dsg tune you've always wanted?
what made you choose eurodyne, how long have you had it now? and have you had any issues?
I've resisted tuning my R yet because like you, money is tight. I definitely can't afford to pay to play if things fail and not covered under warranty. I'd be pretty screwed if the turbo, engine, DSG, or haldex fails and VW deems it caused by the tune. For now, I'm pretty happy with the stock performance + resonator delete. Still enjoying living vicariously through others' modded Rs though :)
Stock is still quick and fun. Enjoy a great carMod to make yourself happy- sound - fast-looks.
Look into a JB1 or JB4. Easy DIY piggy back that's self removable at half the cost (~15-30minutes). Good "fix" until that warranty runs out. Half the cost, half the power or so, but definitely worth the intermittent gain at a low risk option. I had my car APR stage 1, but didn't want to risk warranty, so I flashed back and then went JB1. I removed the JB1 for 10K service and had it serviced at the dealer today. No fault codes or CEL thrown, so I stand behind both options if it's done smartly. Just be careful with the plastic plug connectors as some people have broken, especially with temperature flux re: winter.
The plug just tricks the computer - a proper tune is sooo much better.
I know there is a huge debate over which tuner is best-- I tried APR- I personally like Eurodyne better ( not great fast customer service).. But the tune is - exactly like the curve on the website.
+Robert Weiser indeed. Just giving options. Of course tune is better :)
William K plug & play chip up box should be ok with the warranty.... + open air intake, resonator delete & cat less downpipe, carbon hood, mirror& diffuser should make her the lighter = faster
i have a 2 door mk7 6speed and i raced a 4 door mk7 stage2 eurodyne and he had a catless dp and springs ect. anyways i was on his ass he only beat me by a full car i think unitronic is way better whats your thoughts
It's not that the ECU uses a bunch of juice..the battery tender just ensures proper voltage. If there is a spike or drop in voltage while flashing you can render the ECU useless in worse case or have to put it into boot mode in order for it to be flashed again. which most of the time requires you to open up it's case after removal from the car so that you can manualy ground out a particular lead on the PC board to initiate boot mode. it is a major PITA.
Have you taking it to the 1/4 mile?
I have had issues with the 93 tune. It would run lean on hard acceleration, go into limp mode, then misfire on all cylinders. Backed it down to 91 tune and it has been fine since. Catless AMS downpipe, APR CAI, and ED TCU tune.
I am interested to see if you run into a similar issue. Could reproduce consistently on hard acceleration up incline.
Look forward to seeing the vid about precautions taken to reduce DSG slippage.
I've never had an issue with the 93 tune.. I have heard of the same issue you talked about, with acceleration up an incline. Personally I haven't had the issue, but I also always let the revs range free instead of keeping it at a higher gear, not sure if that has to do with anything.
zed4me Hard to see on my phone, but is that a number I see next to the D when you go into automatic? TCU tune?
Mike Thomas It's also hard to see since youtube degrades video quality but yes sir :)
What the point in modifying your car if you don't drive the bollix out of it?
im not sure where you put the power to use. stock is 300 which i would think is all you need.
Does the fuel intake get affect heavily with a stage 2
Nice car man
I have a question what was the thing u plugged in the beginning of the video
what?? how are your valves permanently open
Your going to do a dsg tune
So what would flag your car to fail inspection in NY? The cel suggesting an absence of the o2 sensor and catalytic converter? I live in NJ and have a Stage 2 GTI Mk6 with a Unitronic high-flow catted downpipe and am a little nervous/confused about whether or not I'll pass or fail inspection in a couple years.
In NY you can have one readiness monitor off or not ready and still pass inspection but you cannot have any check engine lights on. So for me, without the cat monitor everything will be ready to pass inspection. I'm making an update video soon on the o2 sensor blocker. In short I'll be returning it could it caused a check engine light over time.
I done the stage 2 from UNITRONIC on manual transmission my question is for the clutch upgrade if somebody have done it what is the difference on torque...???
what was that mystery mod at the end?
so is it like 400hp or more?
Could the droning issue be fueling when the engine isn't under load at 3k?
What tool are you using to check readiness? Can that be done with OBDEleven?
Great video btw I'm looking at getting a 2017 model golf r 😊.
shane came got my 2017 Golf R on order can't wait till it arrives, was wondering which exhaust system would be loud with a muffler delete and revo stage 1
Have you done a DSG tune yet?
How much power does it make ? Since it's the "same" engine as the S1 (EV888 3rd gen), I plan on getting it a stage 1 first (which is ~300hp) and a stage 2 in the future, but this will need mods (exhaust, clutch, ...) which should bring it at ~350hp apparently :)
you should swap the transmission with a manual next
how do you get different stages?
Wait... you have Golf stage 2 in your database, like that?
The flaps open gives the drone however I don't mind the drone. Actually gets real deep driving in "D" which I hardly ever keep it in any longer. Did you still not get a dsg tune? I'm clueless on what else the secret mod could be other than dsg
I think I'm gonna automate the flaps again, maybe I'll get some before and after clips.
that's not drone. it's the exhaust cam duration and lift increasing due to VVT that occurs at 3k rpm
How many bhp did you gain in total??
Whats your gas milage at with the tune?
what's your MPG on stage 2?
Are you in race mode?
Hey zed4me I have a question I currently have a GTI and I'm planning to go stage one with apr this year and next year doing stage 2. But can you explain to me if I get a catless downpipe how would I be able to pass NYS inspection
I'll let you know as soon as I figure that out
These videos are killing me. In the market still. Finally found one near me with a manual tran, but it's black. I don't know if I could live with a black car again. That Blue looks so good.
I will install hr sway bars and stage two but what about cai I was just thinking put up filter in stock box
Robert Shetsen I use vwr cai it's sweet
You did the TCU tune. I know because I did
Whats the error with your evap system. Ive had one pop up on mine a few times. I usually clear it and it goes away for a long time.
No error, it just wasn't ready yet because I haven't finished a drive cycle.
Any reduction post turbo will create a faster turbo response! The sound in the cabin is way too loud!
Hey man great video ignore all the hate. How necessary do you think it is to go stage 2 after the downpipe? I've been running mine for a bit with no issues even when pushing it. Wanted to wait until the summer to install the intercooler before I went stage 2 but not sure if waiting is worth the risk of running lean.
there's debate so i'm not sure..
What cold air intake are you using?? It looks good!!!
Fred Jones install is on my channel, check it out
Are you beyond your 36k mile mark and aren't worried about reversing back to stock prior to warranty work/service or did you find a mod friendly dealer. I was APR stage 1, then went JB1, but plan to do stage 2 after 36k. So tempting to just say ef it. Really want DP.
just curious with the Eurodyne tune, is the acceleration map similar to that of the stock? Idk, felt like the APR stage 1 was kind of jolty and not as smooth as JB1. Did you experience something similar between Neuspeed piggy back vs EDyne stage 1?
Thanks. Good luck in med school.
I'm only at 19k but I want to enjoy my car instead of worrying about warranty. I'm ready if needed to pay if something should break. I didn't feel like eurodyne was jolty.. certainly neuspeed power module was exactly like stock except more boost.. but I don't remember thinking the car's acceleration being any different with the stage 1 tune other than more torque.
Nice one
Dsg or 6 s what’s better
Those floor mats are neat, custom?
Yep cocomats
Where'd you get those paddle shifters from?
There's a video about them on my channel
are you sure you're doing it yourself?? shouldnt you take it to a tuning garage?
I have a body shop in NYC. The question I have for you is with these mods without backing up the mechanics behind it ( from what I've seen so far ) aren't you wringing the engines neck? Essentially pushing the engine to very high compression and so on. Like I said I haven't seen yet if you worked the headers or exhaust or wrapped anything inside for heat and so on. I was never a fan of these chips but I hear good things about Neuspeed. I had an old Jetta(2001). Was great for a little egg beater. // ok just heard u worked resonator. And so on. I am going to try to get this during the week I think. If u need access to a dyno and you're near NYC let me know. I'm curious as to what it did so far.
I would love to dyno the Golf R but right now too tight on cash. If you wanna do some advertising for your shop and can offer some dyno time hit me up!
Just wondering how you can pass emissions without a catalytic converter?
You're allowed one monitor not ready in New York
Good luck in med school - that is not an easy journey Dr.
thank you
