  • Part 1 of a 2: Interview with Alberto Togni, a member of Switzerland's communist party, who tells us that even in Switzerland pro-peace voices in the Russo-Ukraine war are being smeared as "Putin Puppets."
How can we get out of a war on European soil if Europeans are enthusiastic about fighting it?

Very true, but even the word "socialist" has been propagandised and demonised in the United States.
It's strange that a country founded on the words "All men are created equal" can have such a fear and loathing of equality. Hypocrisy, not democracy, lies at the heart of America.

This is so scary. How can the population of countries calmly treat military propaganda? Don’t they understand that it will not be politicians and oligarchs, but ordinary working people who will fight? Don’t they understand that almost every “player” in this confrontation has enough nuclear weapons for a “nuclear winter” to begin on the planet?

My impression is that the "ruling class" viewed the left, however moderate, as a threat, and spend decades to tame it, make them accept the "narrative" and limit themselves to the confines of that narrative. So only new parties and movements reject parts of the narrative, and the party of Alberto Togni is one of them. By early education etc. I appreciate that in spite of some quirks, Marxism gives a realistic framework to analyze the society and select political priorities. And "neutrality" in a broader sense that is used here is one of top priorities from many point of view, including Marxist, because the alternative is war, escalation, world-wide economic and ecological damage, and internal repressions in the West where Swiss live. Clearly, you do not need to think in terms of class divide, excess profits etc. to arrive at those conclusions, perhaps most ways of thinking consistently that go outside the "narrative" would result in that too.

The Japanese Communist Party (J.C.P) is also quite neutral. From its inception, it has maintained independence from both the U.S.S.R. and the C.C.P. Some right wing Japanese nationalists claim that the J.C.P. is controlled by North Korea, but there is absolutely no evidence for this claim and substantial evidence against it.

Yep, and this happened back in the day too: when the US tr*shed the lives of millions of Vietnamese civilians it was exculpated as "fighting communism". And the killing of a million people in Indonesia in 1965-66, a campaign that was actively furthered and assisted by the Brits, was pushed under the rug with "they were commies, you know!".

Since the beginning of the 20th century, communists have been saying that the imperialists will start a war whenever there is a crisis in the capitalist economy. And imperceptibly we approached such a threshold. There are local conflicts and potential conflicts all over the world (for example, China - Taiwan).
