Mirror screws already solve this problem... but better and cheaper. respect the innovation, but seems like a better approach
Is there a way mirror screws can be flush with a tight fit around the edge of the disc?
@@AndrewKleinWW with the right head they can be, I've definitely adapted them in the past to get that effect.
Again, fully respect the idea, and definitely cool, but just seems like mirror screws have a more cost-effective and reliable design approach. Other than seizing, you dont have to worry about marring the head either
@@Willforsure This design and execution screams of "unnecessary complexity". Amazing, extravagant, jaw-dropping etc. but perhaps quite the niche product?
@@Willforsure I haven't seen mirror screws close to this in the past. As he said, cap screws are everywhere and tbh they look kind of industrial and ugly. I respect your point but I think there are fundamental differences. These are designed to be flush, as you said you "adapated" them to be flush, this is an aesthetic-forward design with that at heart. Yes someone else probably did it similar but HE put it into a rounded idea, you need to give credit where credit is due. I agree also it may not be most cost-effective, but be realistic, this is a small potentially solo-run company and designer who did all this himself. It is slowly getting cheaper as he demonstrated (more than 4x cheaper than first iteration) and is slowly becoming commercially viable. There are companies selling tasteless over-elegant bronze fasteners and interior hardware (door handles, locks etc) for $$$$ nowadays, 24$ for 4 bespoke fasteners isn't far off the norm for this kind of stuff.
but these are definitely cooler than mirrorscrews..
Have you considered making the driver bit out of something like Delrin? It's an incredibly tough plastic that can be injection molded(plastic gears can be made with a form of Delrin) which means if your volume is high enough, the base unit cost would be very low. And with the driver being plastic, most people will automatically treat it like it's a low torque use only tool; plus it would have the added bonus of being a lot less likely to cause surface scratches.
Not a bad idea
Some years of Ford ranger had a delrin composite 1st and 2nd gear. Definitely seems like it can be made strong enough
$40 for an accent piece screw wasn't bad at all; most of the people commenting here have no idea what they're talking about when they complain about pricing. The new price though is just really incredible. I'm blown away by how much you were able to reduce the cost of these!
the difference is in moving it from an accent, to a design choice... lower cost opens up more use cases and wider applicability to projects where it wouldn't make sense in before
In some ways I agree with you. I was shocked to learn that those special faucets for filling pots on a stove are often well over $1,000. Specialty stuff is EXPENSIVE.
No you're insane.
Maybe 40$ for an accent piece screw is fine if you're dicking around as a hobbyist. No production shop or custom furniture maker is going to pay those prices though.
Give china a little time and they will create a super cheap version of this pretty quick
@@asadb1990 Yup. They'll have these on Temu in under a year
I cant believe im commenting on CZcams.
I genuinely hope you make a mint on selling these. What a clean-looking piece of kit.
Well done.
Thanks for a rare comment, I appreciate it
Just received 8 PIKA mini screws. They are beautiful. Will post the final product. Giving 4 to my father in law who is an amazing craftsman in wood and professional diamond setter. I’m sending first sending just the screws and see if he figures it out. He probably will. Can’t wait to see what he comes up with.
Hey Andy. I’m the architect you met at Fabtech in Chicago. I think you hit the nail..or screw.. on the head with your assessment of the head depth being an issue. Just too many other ways to accomplish the same results for many applications. Hope this new design is successful!
Can you please tell me other ways to get the same result? I thought this was pretty unique but I'm willing to learn.
Thanks, hope you are right, I really would like to have that conversation!
@@Goalsplus counter sink a disk of metal on top of a traditional fastener. Achieves a similar aesthetic effect, and using something sticky it can be removed to access the fastener underneath. However, these screws are just so cool with the hidden interface, and now with the bevels it would be much harder to achieve the same effect in the same form factor using that technique.
@@huntergibson9359 I guess so. But not as good as Andrew's.
Hi Those thinner screws are gorgeous, and I can see all sorts of applications for them, congratulations on the redesign. The price is also more than reasonable, Because these aren’t just fasteners, they’re a design feature as well.
But, the shipping…
I understand that within the US UPS usually works reasonably well, but for many international (non-US) recipients UPS is often the worst option. Their prices are towards the higher end, and when they arrive at your door, the delivery person will also tell you that there are added brokerage fees, storage fees, phase of the moon fees and other random fees that you’ve never heard about and no other delivery service charges. on top of their high prices, these front porch fees feel like blackmail. Like many others, I simply don’t purchase from makers or organization to only ship UPS.
Rather than UPS, the USPS international expedited service is highly efficient, much cheaper and they don’t hold your stuff hostage at the front door.
Man, these are so amazing. I mean, the original concept was amazing, but somehow you manage to keep making them better and better.
My only problem is that I have zero woodworking projects. None. Zilch. Rien. Nada. So, I have nothing where I could actually use these screws.
I'm still sorely tempted to buy a bunch from you, just to support your amazing work.
And if you had kits available that I could buy where I could use these screws, then that would solve my project problem.
Kits eh? let me think about that
@@AndrewKleinWWYes!!! Kits! 4- or 6- or 8-packs would be great…
Would absolutely love to support this, but yeah, definitely can't justify $145USD just for the shipping to Canada. Good luck with the product though, definitely a great price for folks within the US!
Andrew fixed his shipping to Canada. It was only $35 for my order.
@@mattym8nice, if only that were possible for the rest of the world too
Awesome to see you continuing to innovate and develop this!
Ordered 2 sets of brass screws! Awesome job designing them and optimizing price! Was lucky enough to live in a location where the shipping price was ~$9.
Looking forward to using em!
had these in my head for a couple projects but prices have completely put me off. I would definitely now consider this as a real option! I think you'll probably get a prett big uptake on orders with this!
yeah I think this makes it a lot more accessible.
@@AndrewKleinWW well, I know I placed an order last night for the four pack. Probably won’t be the only order from me. Maybe I can attach a twin screw vise with them. Sounds about right…
this opens up a lot of opportunities for people, thanks for driving the innovation forward
Honestly, congrats. It’s truly genius. What a slick look! 🔥
These are so cool. Really hope these pop off without getting knocked off
OMG, they came!!!!!! Simply gorgeous!!!!!!!! I can't wait!!!!!
Yes, they are real!
Impeccable job on your version. Not an aesthetic I use often but undeniably slick.
Ordered! Got a few brass and a few stainless steel. I do not have a project for them, but who cares! Love the ingenuity!
I will soon order one of your twin turbo vise as well. I have been wanting one for years now.
Beautiful invention. Thank you so much for this. Loving it!!!
I feel the need to point out that imperial countersinks are generally 82 degrees and metric ones are 90 degrees, so depending on where you are your bit may not work with this
Fantastic work, Andrew! Really awesome design!!! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks! You too!
Sweet. Loving the evolution here!
That miter set jig is sick!!
Very nice new design. Great work as always Andrew
These are so cool I’d come up with a project just as an excuse to use these.
Congrats, Andy. This is much better!
This is so cool, hope it makes a lot of success
Great job improving the product, use case and cost!
You know where these would be REALLY cool? A display case. Similar to the box you made, but with a LOT more sections.
I agree!
This is really nice! I think a good use case is stair ends. I hate trying to screw stairs from the top and then filling them
Unreal, unbelievably awesome
All I can say is "Way to go! And, Thanks!!!"
It still seems like a solution looking for a problem to me, but this certainly lowers the barrier to entry a huge amount. I have no need for them but I hope it becomes a huge success!
You must either be unfamiliar with the term "wall acne" or you're not bothered by it. For those of us who are, these are soothing to our brains.
Awesome! Congratulations.
This is freaking awesome.
I like them. Good lucky Andy!
Nice product, good luck!
Looks great! Can you maybe look into some other shipping options for the rest of the world? $120 to Canada is... a bit much and maybe an error in the calculator settings? USPS is an excellent and affordable service for shipping to America's hat.
I was curious to see what shipping was. Im getting $44 to ship to BC. Now thats probably in USD. Still better then the 120 you mentioned.
@@cwalker7 Andrew fixed the shipping fees to Canada in between carisman's comment and your comment.
Love mine, they will be great on my clocks.. thanks aga8n
Dang, these are slick!
Thank you!
That box would be a great place for the bit. 🙃
As a welder, I highly recommend checking out silicon bronze in a mig welder. Use argon, and mig weld the top of your brass screws and you can grind it down after tightening it and you will have a mirror finish with the same type of hidden plug look. I like the idea of a Pika screw if you need to remove it.
Yep, if you don’t need removability there are other ways to get the look
Amazing piece of hardware
Please make smaller sizes like m5,m4 for us 3d printing folks
Good job man. This is what it needs to be to get off the ground more. Here's hoping economies of scale can come into play at some point.
This would be awsome to incorporate into a remington 700 build
I would forget that's how it was built and end ip using a hammer to take whatever used the screws apart.
This could have alot of applications in aviation. Especially with the amount of screws for panels in air currents.
Take my money
This is awesome!
Very cool! How did you make that hidden lock box with the Pika screw? I could have sworn you used the screw as a button. But, the smaller Pika screw doesn't seem to work like that. Maybe I was mistaken?
Love the screw, but is there maybe a bug in the shipping calculation? Shipping 2 sets of the screw to Germany would cost almost 180 Dollars...
It’s extra work to get reasonable shipping rates in his store. Hope he fixes that. It’s $130 to Canada. UPS is the single option and something is up because I ship from US to Canada on my own UPS account and it’s nowhere near that. There’s always two or three options as well.
email me at inkleind2303@gmail.com and I'll work up an exact quote to you
Andrew fixed shipping to Canada and I got my order in.
you sir are incredible
this dude is so foken smart!
I want the Arthur bit from King of Queens.
Oh that was you that designed this!? Nice
Thanks
Order placed. Now I just need a fancy project idea to put these on. Also not shipping to summer 24?? Ouch
Nice redesign
I'd love some of these, but your Store is showing $154 for delivery to Australia. Seems a bit steep for 4 screws.
Email me at inkleind2303@gmail.com and I’ll see if I can do better
Got an email from your shop but when I replied it came back as undelivered, thought you should know!
This would be cool on wooden rifle parts
would it make sense to do a bit in a softer material than brass so you cant ding it up?
Thanks for the video.👍🏝️🇨🇦
For the price, and that it is probably more decorative than structural they seem to be reasonably priced.
Any ideas or concepts for a smaller diameter one?
Wait, so how are they so much cheaper? I know its a new design but it would be nice to see a breakdown of why its cheaper
Awesome!
Damn, the new screws are just fantastic and I already have a few projects in mind where I would love to use them ... but unfortunately, shipping to Germany is exorbitantly expensive. What a pity :(
Let me get you a custom shipping quote
These are awesome, but you need to figure out the shipping costs. I can’t afford 213$ just for the shipping to EU and then add the cost of the items - thats simply tooooo much haha
You rock !
Man I was hoping you'd go a bit more into the manufacturing and how you got the price down. If its confidential nbd but I would really love to see a deep dive into the process to get to that point.
Can you do these in non stainless steel? I need some that will work with magnets.
Love it , let’s make them in aluminum 10-24 just to keep it interesting. 😁
Very cool!!!
I was certainly keen on the brass but $250 in shipping is not within my price bracket. :(
Shipping to Canada was out of whack. Then I emailed Andrew and he fixed it. Not sure which country you're in but consider checking again to see if it's normal now.
Are other length screws available?
now make a grub screw version of the pika screw
Make them metric (M4 / M5 / M6) and I'll push the hell out of the sales in Germany! I'm a technical product designer and could use them in many of my own projects, including retail & shopfitting equipment furniture.
We’re not going to talk about that miter checker thing you had on the wall? Where do I get that?
good stuff.
Does this need those metal inserts to screw into?
Is there a particular reason why it requires a proprietary bit to drive the screw?
Looked up "Pika screw for sale" and found ONE for $39.99. However, a 4-pack of smaller Pika screws is expected to be available for "only" $29.99 . That is why they call it a SCREW when it is actually a bolt.
Any plans for offering your micro pikas in metric threading?
And the tool you have to use to screw and unscrew those won’t destroy the finish? How?
Dope!
Can we talk aboit the possibility of knife hardware..fasteners..where sizes would be much smaller.
Don't have a project, wanted them anyway but shipping for four screws was more than the screws. Where are you shipping from?
Awesome
Nice product but $164 ($198 for 8 screws) to ship to europe is so much too much to be weird. I really suggest you to address this problem 😮
I’m looking for better quotes on an individual basis and also trying to fix the website prices, sorry about that.
$140 shipping to UK also is crazy for 4 tiny screws... 😳
Would love to get a set but $140 shipping to the UK is eye watering😂…
Where i can buy it ? Live in Sweden
This is so woodworker.
Brilliant
I could not find where to enter Micropika, so I full price.
sorry about that, email me at inkleind2303@gmail.com and we'll work out a refund
No worries, just keep churning out innovations! Enjoy the extra money!
A locking pika screw mechanism coming?
probably ... not
"pika" that is quite a naughty word in brazil
Oh? Do tell
Charge whatever you want. Paupers can stick with regular screws 😂
what are these for?
Pika pika! (Pokey man reference)
