here a quick video on how i diagnossed the problem on this F150.
AC compressor clutch not working and i traced, found and fixed the problem!

You are a godsend.. 2 yrs ago my AC went out randomly while driving... so I checked the fuse box.. everything was good. No leak.. nada and I gzve up on looking and just have been using my wifes car. I changed that relay today and now its the arctic again. TX summer here I come!! Tytytyty Id hug you if I could!
Thank you for posting this. I checked the relay, but thought it was good because I could hear it click. I replaced it and had cold AC. I could have spent a lot of time trying to diagnose this.

Awesome. This was exactly what my problem was. Thanks for the help.
BTW, a blue #16-#14 U type spade connector fit between the two sides of the relay for a perfect jumper.
06 F150 4.6L VIN W Super Crew...I was checking the relay incorrectly...This was on the money thanks for your time...Cold AC again...

My 08 F-150 just started doing this immediately after two heater lines broke & wet the engine with two gallons of antifreeze. Replaced the lines. Had to replace the spark plugs & coils on one side because the truck was missing & shuddering afterward. Still shuddering hard at around 1200 rpms & now the a/c clutch won’t engage. Sometimes I wonder if this truck would be less trouble to burn to the ground than to work on incessantly.

Excellent video. Helped me diagnose the problem. Still have an issue with it not raising the rpm whenever the ac is turned on. Any thoughts on how to fix this issue?
I went through all the fuses, tested on a conductivity meter setting. Good tone, and installed a new relay. My compressor clutch still won’t engage. It was sudden. I guess I check the Freon next.

Thank you General Mechanic. I was quoted several hundred dollars to replace the compressor. After viewing your video, I jumped the two terminals with a 15 amp fuse. Will it damage anything if I leave the fuse in place until the new relay arrives?

I replaced this relay with one I bought at autozone. I have correct pressure in the compressor system. How possible could it be that I got a bad relay when I got the new one at autozone. Should I go buy one from somewhere else?
I watched the bideo. I'm going to check for bolts at the relay. Hopefully this works because my nuts are sweaty.

There's literally a separate wire from the compressor to the relay. And it worked all last summer and then suddenly stopped.

hey general mechanic I have the same issue but the a/c button won't light up I jumped it like you did and compressor does kick on but a/c lbutton light on dash does not light up do you know why and is it got to do with the same relay ??
You may have a bad control module

Great video. Thank you. Problem Solved ... kinda. I checked the relay and jumped it with a 20 amp fuse and baddabing, I'm freezin balls. Ordered a new relay that just arrived and put it on immediately and no compressor. The 20 amp fuse will still run it but neither the new nor the old relay will, so I'm like WTF? So, any idea as to WTF?
And while we're at it, can anyone tell me why my bottom taillights won't come on? I have turn signals and break lights and they actually stay on and act as tail lights while I'm running but the bottom lights never come on....????

@jakehoward4993 I got a different relay box from the salvage yard, cut the old one out and like a complete dumbass, didn't take a photo of the wiring before cutting the old one out and thought I'd just rewire by color code. Well that didn't work because apparently this box has something to do with the electronic ignition as well and I must have gotten something wired back in wrong because now I have power everywhere and battery is reading 12.4 but I turn the key and get absolutely nothing. No click, no crank nothing. And I can't find a wiring diagram for the relay box anywhere. Any ideas? Lol

@@GeneralMechanicGA not true....one set of pins is the coil operated by the PCM signal....the other is a set of contacts...pluggin it in the wrong way will probably burn out the coil and at the same time blow the fuse. Since you know that the sockets are specific , you also have to use your DMM and ohm the new relay out and find the coil. It will read about 160 ohms, while the other two pins will read infinite since they are the contacts and are open.
@@johnrobertson7583 not true….the control pins are in opposite corners and so are the switch pins. It you put it in the other way it works the same. Take a rectangle, mark 2 opposite corners red and 2 black, turn it 180, the reds and blacks are in the same place.
My 2005 f150 had my a/c working for like only 2 days … mechanics said the compressor was bad and replaced it.
I thought maybe it had a leak but i dont think thats the issue.
I’m not auto-savvy but i notice the clutch/compressor (idk what you call that thing down there) kept clicking/turning on and off.
I had a somewhat similar problem on my 2002 dodge 1500 turned out to be just a faulty fuse.
I don’t have a voltmeter and im not knowledgeable enough to troubleshoot the electrical wiring im just assuming im gonna have to buy a bunch of fuses and a few relays and just replace them all and hope it works
I have 2005 f-150 lariat 4x4 and ac will crank on and turn off immediately and turn back on and right back off etc... I have changed the ac compressor relay and 2 fuses(11&32). The problem continues.

it worked with the cable and i went to buy the relay and it didnt worked any sugestions
Bad pcm no ground coming from pcm. Good luck.
Check the freon pressure if its too low the compressor wont kick on
