Awesome! If it looks this good on the wall in non-4k I can’t wait to see it on the screen material.
Thanks - me too! So excited as this is my first projector I've ever had also.
@@TyEichele You’re welcome. Well congrats and you made a good choice on the Epson. You’ll get hooked and may never want to watch a TV again. 😂 I remember buying my very first too and how excited I was. It was a Sony but I now own a JVC RS2000. Just bought my first home this past February and in planning stages of building my very first dedicated home theater. I’m excited as hell as you can imagine.
@@pf5658 Good luck with your build - how exciting! If you have any questions I may be able to answer for you please feel free to ask! And document your build with lots of pics and videos so you can look back later and see all your hard work you put into it 👍
@@TyEichele Yes I’ve taken lots of before pics but no video unfortunately. I should though now you mentioned it. Thank you for the good wishes.😊
wonderful space mate! looking forward to the finished product👌
Thank you! We are getting pretty excited as well - should be done by Thanksgiving if all goes well. Stay tuned!
I finished my home theater in November 2019. You have almost my identical setup. Carl’s place diy screen, HTD speakers, denon receiver, and Epson projector. I went with the 6050ub and 7.1.4 atmos setup. I researched the hell out of everything and 2nd guessed myself every step of the way. From speaker placement to speaker manufacturer. HTD speakers are great. The guys at HTD are great. I had an issue with 1 of my hdx-r80s and they took care of it immediately. I was really worried about the quality due to them being so inexpensive but we couldn’t be happier with the way it turned out and how they sound. Carl’s place sent me the wrong material but corrected their mistake with no hassles. My screen is a little over 140” on a 14’ wide wall which gives me about 18” on each side for the tower speakers. My advice is go as big as possible. My original plan was to put up a 120” screen and I’m glad I was talked into going as big as possible. You can always shrink it down by remaking your frame but as soon as the staples go in that material, you can’t make it bigger without buying new material. Our front row is 12’ from the 140” screen and it’s awesome!
Learn from my mistake and get your measurements from your projected image. I used the formula from Carl’s place. Triple checked my math and built the frame from that and somehow have an 1.5” border on the sides, which we wanted, and an approx. 3” border on the top and bottom. I’ll fix it some day if it really bothers me. So for now the felt tape I bought from them will stay in the box. Anyway it looks great and I look forward to the seeing the finished video.
Thanks for your comment - sounds awesome! Your space sounds really nice! I have run HTD equipment in my last home also -but just their square in-walls. These VERSA speakers are a huge improvement from what I had last time. I can't wait to get them all dialed in and see how they perform.
Thanks for the tip on the screen size. That is exactly why I wanted to project onto a flat surface (hence the wrapping paper), so that I could measure.
My wife is worried 140" is too big and her biggest worry is not being able to see the whole picture or having to turn her head all the time to watch, which I get completely. But I also agree it's easy to go smaller if needed than try to go bigger. I'm sticking to the 140" screen :)
Do you have any pics of your space by chance?
@@TyEichele I took a break earlier and wanted to geek out more on home theater vids so I thought I'd check out your other vids and planned to binge them tonight. I wish I had videoed my construction but we just took still photos. Your DW delivery was only 3 min so I watched that. I don't think DSI is a national company so I'm assuming we are somewhat neighbors, fellow Huskers at least? I do have pictures but I would have no idea how to share them. If you haven't been there, check out DTX on 14th & Yankee Hill. They have an amazing theater showroom. Waaaay over my budget but it gives you an idea of screen size. But you are far enough along you can do it at home. My wife thought it might be too big at first also but now she sits front row for every movie. We have a row of 3 at 12' and another elevated row of 3 at 19'.
Atmos is awesome. I used the HDX-R80s for the 4 overheads, HDX-W80s for the sides and rear. Left and Right are Klipsch Ref Dual 8" towers, Sub is a 12" Klipsch ref and the center channel is Klipsch ref premier with the 4, 5.25" woofers. I got a great deal on them that I couldn't pass it up and we are very happy with them.
@@jkraft5081 Go Big Red!! That's awesome! I haven't been to the new location for DTX yet. Been wanting to at least check them out sometime.
I'm glad I'm doing the video process - it's a lot of time (that I don't have to begin with), but, for example, I was only going to run 2 Atmos speakers in front of my seating row until someone commented that even though it's not perfect to-spec, a rear row of Atmos will still benefit the overall movement of the sound overhead. I'm so glad someone mentioned that or I wouldn't have 4 Atmos channels right now!
Great video. I am also planning my home theater. I am realizing that screen size and main seating position (MSP) is a compromize between audio and visual considerations. What type of audio format will you use (5.1, 7.1, 7.1.4)? It appears that you are thinking of putting your MSP on the back wall. Will you have speakers on the back wall also?
Hello and thanks for your comment! I'm currently planning on a 5.2.4 audio setup. That's 5 main channels (all 5 speakers are the same, Left and Right main just outside of the screen recessed into the walls, center channel behind an acoustically transparent screen material, and R&L rears), 2 subwoofers, and 4 Atmos (height) speakers. If you watch my other videos you'll see more of the setup. This is a good one: czcams.com/video/ST7YEGVTJHk/video.html
I'll have a row of 6 seats across the back wall. I also pre-wired for a 7.2.4 system, if I ever decided to try to add 2 more speakers into the rear wall itself. But not planning on that route currently. Good luck with your build!
Projector looks great in both aspect rations on just the wrapping paper! Getting closer!
I’m also planning a 5050ub.
Do you plan to blackout any of the wall?
I know I couldn't believe the image also. I can't wait to see it with the actual screen material, and with something better than a non-4k firestick!
The front and rear wall and some of the soffits will be a dark color for sure. Probably not black, but something good and dark with a Matte finish.
I think I'm going the opposite direction as I believe I can create auto masking for the sides but not so much for the top and bottom
Nice! That sounds intriguing for sure. Ultimately what sold me was watching Home Theater Gurus explain the viewing angles in comparions and how much more immersive a 16x9 screen is. It starts at 5:15 in this episode: czcams.com/video/OX9mgvywZ_w/video.html
@@TyEichele I'll check it out
You could do two short side masks, one set for the top and one for the bottom.
Mind to share the viewing distance for 140" screen?
Thanks
I believe I mentioned it in the video that I'll be sitting about 13 feet away from the screen with a single row of 6 seats across the back wall.
@@TyEichele Thanks for the information
