    I love that you noted you give them the requirements they would naturally have on the daily without incorporating all the extra. I always feel terrible about my isopods diet when I hear about how much everyone else spoils them with diverse foods. Mine eat their natural resources, with the addition of repashy bug burger, and a mix I ordered that has dried mealworms, small fish, and a couple other little critters they seem to enjoy. They’ve had carrots once under my care, only because a big chunk was given with a small culture I ordered so I cut it to disperse between everyone. Glad to know they aren’t going to just drop dead without their side snacks 🤣

      I will make a part 3 eventually! I have many more, 53 species in all and climbing. I just picked what I had on the shelves that was in starter boxes as they're easier to grab 😂😂 (I have a bad neck and pulling down heavy boxes would have taken me forever lol)

    Even though im not tooo into keeping isopods at the moment, i still like to listen to you talk about them. And they’re also cute and pretty (well yeah most of them, not the ugly yellow spot ones). Looking forward to part 2-100

    My daughter got me into keeping Isopods, she started out just grabbing the ones in the garden, and now she has several "proper" colonies. - dairy cows, giant white, giant orange, etc. I've started keeping Zebra Isopods and it's surprisingly enjoyable

    • @themantisgarden
      @themantisgarden  Před rokem +1

      It's fun because it is a challenge. Getting the habitat just right for them to reproduce and then seeing a mass of them in your colony.

    • @MyPetArthropods
      @MyPetArthropods Před rokem +1

      @@themantisgarden I've picked up a starter colony of them at BTS, got about 50 of them now. I like just opening the tub and watching them scurry about. Was initially planning on just using them as a cleaning crew, but they became pets before that happened 😁

    Great video, can't wait to see the rest of the collection.
    One small thing though, I think you might have one of them mislabelled. Hard to tell from a video since I can't see the surface texture clearly, but with how crisp the white is on those "dairy cows" you might want to take a closer look to check, I think they might be P.scaber "Moo Cow".

    • @themantisgarden
      @themantisgarden  Před rokem

      Thank you. They're laevis, mate. Scabers have a lumpy body and laevis is smooth - I would prefer to have Moos actually lol

    • @roostarr
      @roostarr Před rokem +1

      @@themantisgardenweird must just be a trick of the light then, my laevis are never as crisp white as my scaber! Much prefer the moo cow myself too! So much nicer looking! If there's anybody you see regularly in the invert show going crowd that's going to the Scottish show some of my extras will be available there from the Edinburgh Entomology table.
