- A sequence of clips of take off sequences using my Scratchbuilt 1 foot Jupiter 2 and Fuel Barge as well as Moebius models Jupiter 2 and Space Pod.
I built home made sets in my garage and backdrops. I added mechanically operated landing legs to Jupiter 2.
All fusion core lighting is custom made by me.
I used my iphone to capture these shots.
I never get tired of seeing the Jupiter 2 lift off and land. The sound is truly one of a kind.
Who doesn't fantasize being with family and friends in this cozy flying Winnebago-like spaceship sharing a thrilling camping ride through the Galaxy?!
The quality of this work is extraordinary! 100% professional!
🏍️ I was mesmerized by the Jupiter 2 when i was a kid. Used to draw it all the time. 🖍️
Me too. Lol
I am in my 60s and I still do.
Better than what the effects people did in the 60s! Wow, wow and wow 👏
wow! these look as good as the show1
better in some ways actually.
Magnificent!.
Spectacular!
Fantastic recreation!
I like how Major West and Prof. Robinson are manning the controls and flying the ship.
Computers fly it they just correct the computer guidance
HOT! Love the lighting on these beautiful models .BRAVO!
That's some of the best work I've seen yet! It could have been used on the show!
great job. the landing legs actually work better than the real thing from the show. j2 always gonna be my fav ship
Awesome models, irwin would be impressed
Damn near better than the original effects
It is the most beautiful and aerodynamic ship and that unforgettable landing gear and ladder at the same time
Astounding! I really like the next to last one.
I do too! The extra flashes of light from the Jupiter was really good!
This video is superb. The models are incredible. What a great hobby! When I was in grade school I used to doodle the Jupiter 2 all the time. I could never understand how they fit that giant engine room in there lol. I still get a thrill looking at the J2 and this video is very satisfying lol. I got to see the real models at the L.A. Museum of TV and Radio exhibition on October 16, 1997, the day of takeoff. Mark Goddard was there still looking very fine. They had the full sized Robot, and models of Jupiter 2 and the Chariot. It was fantastic. Great video. Thanks.
First time that I've seen a J2 model with working retracts ... Excellent!
Fantastic shots, love to see a behind the scenes video.
Totally professional! Couldn’t be better. Fantastic work. Congratulations!
Great practical effects well done!
Perfect!!A huge well done!!!!!
Lovely models that capture that unique feel of the classic series i am 63 and vividly remember watching this new US series on TV here in the UK 🇬🇧 😀
I can watch this all day!😀
Absolutely brilliant!!
Great model work and great video production! As a kid, I missed the original run of "The Derelict", the only 1st season episode in which the landing legs were seen. For a whole year, I didn't know the J2 had them. When the 2nd season started in Sept. 1966, the 3rd episode "The Ghost Planet" had a soft landing sequence... I remember just being blown away by the landing leg extension and retraction. Then not seen again until numerous 3rd season episodes. I never understood why all three legs needed steps, though.
Simply magnificent! Very nice work!
I always loved the sound of it taking off and landing. In the first episode and pilot, not so much.
Man this looks almost as good as the show lift offs were...great job!
The original Space Pod filming miniature was quite an interesting little model. It had several animated parts. In addition to the large rotating antenna on top, the small periscope twisted back and forth and the right hand scanner on the from rocked up and down. They were all controlled by linkages to a single servo motor that operated all the animated features of the model simultaneously.
Excellent job on your models, BTW.
BRILLIANT....
GREAT WORK.
Pretty cool. My favourite was the Space Pod inside the Derelict, something we never saw in the series. Love the articulation of the Space Pod's radar dish and the J2's legs retracting.
wow. it’s so good i thought these must have been outtakes from the original
show. well done
Very well done
Actually far superior to the actual 1960s show!
I would have liked some landings as well.
Damn! AWESOME
Superb job
Docking the space pod into the Jupiter 2 would be cool. Video both inside (receiving) and departure.
Incredible!
Great Job .
I've started Both J - 2's the small one that has full details on upper and lower decks also about a foot in diameter .
Then the Larger w/ Single Main Deck that's about 2 feet in diameter and finally both the Pod and Chariot witch needs a Lot of masking .
And last but not least I've finished the Classic L O S Diorama of the giant alien cyclops and the J - 2 from the reimagine movie .
Almost forgot I'm also building the 1 : 6'th scale B 9 .
Yea ... No wonder I have nothing to do .
Excellent, Love your video ! You did a fantastic Awesome job ! So realistic both sounds & sight including the swirling dust from the planet surface scene when blasting off.. All totally Awesome ! I admire the fusion core lights both the Jupiter 2 & the Space Pod also the scanner lights on top of J2. Both look excellent & let alone the working retractable landing gear awesome... All look fantastic !!
Thank you Steve for your kind comments.
Amazing work, looks fantastic!!
That is just incredible!!!
Thanks for great memories
Excellent!
Super cool!!!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
EXCELLENT work!
Excellent beyond cool!
Super cool! Great sound too.
well done, watched a railroad video first. big like
Everyone seems to have forgotten that in the pilot, the landing gear would been rendered inoperable since it was buried under several hundred tons of Jupiter 2. Only when the Dr Smith character was added did it make an appearance. Also, the drive dome would have been sheered away or irreparably damaged during the crash landing.
GREAT JOB!!!!! LOVE IT..
That Jupiter 2 engine sound was always so awe-inspiring to me. I've never been able to replicate it, even on synthesizers. I wonder what they used in the 1960's to get that specific sound?
Cool!
Followed the link from Facebook! Awesome!
Great job.
Pretty well done!
ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!!! :D :D :D :D :D
The space pod as I remember sounded like a power hand drill
Incredible work!! Just as I recall the original shots of takeoffs and flying also from my childhood in the 60's. I would LOVE to see how you did the electronics for the fusion core and especially the overhead bubble. I don't like the few kits out there have a couple LEDs chasing on a board for the bubble. The real one looked like yours. Something like a then current day police bubble light. And then the landing Legs!! Works of art! C'mon man, don't be stingy show us how you did it. Share your knowledge with mankind. I built the first replica Knight Rider KITT 2000 back in 1988 from scratch and all my stuff worked. Dash, scan light EVERYTHING. Now there are KITS (no pun intended) out there you can buy or about 3 diff companies will turnkey them for you. Anyway If I just had some tips I think I'd know which direction to go in. Thanks!!!
Looks like the real deal.
Awesome!
It cracks me up the space pod is almost as big as the Jupiter 2
The space pod fits inside the J2
I keep expecting to see Dr. Smith running up to the ship as it's lifting off screaming "WAIT!!! WAIT FOR ME!!!!! WHAAAAAOOOHHH!!!!!"
Really nice.
Fantastic! You should be in charge of SFX in any remake!
GOOD STUFF
It's sad to think that most people under the age of 20 will see this as inferior to CGI. It isn't. It has depth and volume and atmosphere, something CGI can never quite duplicate.
In the first season there were sea bathispheres or ball shaped precursers of the pod one episode showed will going up in one with a.balloon attached
What parts did you use to get the J2 landing legs to deploy and retract? I have the 18" J2 from Mobius and would like to get them to work.
Great job!

The ice princess. J5 , and IDAK are ready for you..
Great work. The only thing that doesn't quite measure up to the original FX shots are your smoke effects, only because, I suspect, your models aren't as big as the ones used by Lydecker. Other than that, not only do you faithfully recreate the original shots, but, improve on them, particularly in the case of the fuel barge. I particularly liked the next to last sequence of the J2 taking off from the night planet; not a shot we ever saw on the show. You could have made it even better by recreating the interior of the J2, but, I understand that you reproduced the model as it is seen in the series.
Thanks for your feedback. More to come soon in 4K quality.
Awesome job man. I love these LIS ships. I was pissed at the recent remake movie when they had what was a reasonable facsimile of the OG ship break apart to reveal the odd shaped splotch that was the new ship, awful. Not a great movie but could have at least left the ship intact, certainly would have increased my enjoyment (or tolerance) of it.
I agree.
Well done!👍.. Sadly Mark Goddard just recently passed away 🙏
Could you show the making of the video, special effects for the lack of a better word?Thank you for bringing back childhood memories.
Just found this. You have created a really faithful version of the fusion core. Kudos for that. I have not seen any others that I like enough to want to put into my J2 when I build it. They are often WAY too bright and regular. I love the landing gear retractions. Do they reverse as well- deploying rather than folding up?
Thank you. Yes they do.
@@tjpreds1575 your fusion core- what is the basis of its workings? Arduino? pi? ICs? Just curious.
I have two mini motors which spin the top scanner and fusion core lights. The rotation is speed adjustable. The fusion core light pattern can be changed easily by switches and multiple wires that run through a slip ring. Everything including batteries are housed within a cylinder which screws up into the hull. The lights are squared shaped white LED type.
I would love to see that mechanism. Fascinating!
So, are there any drawings of the space pod?
far out man.
Space pod didn't exist until the third season and they reused the derilict
Why didn't they have GPS?
Where can you find the j2 engine sounds

@@tjpreds1575 thankyou
What would be the cost to make Jupiter 2 with retracting legs, and light interior? Thank You.
Here's a link to more info on the working legs and lights. czcams.com/video/JMQss7vI_1E/video.html
I don't do build ups of these models.
@@tjpreds1575 Thank you.
Where can I buy these toys?
Monstersinmotion.com or ebay.
There no way! That ship as 2 decks.
Your timing is a bit off, the sounds should reach their crescendo right at the moment of liftoff as opposed tojust after.
Jupiter 2 is a stupid craft.
That saucer could never have contained the pod, the chariot, the jet pack, the hydroponic growing system etc, etc. it was hardly large enough for the people. And they were sent into the unknown with no armament for the ship just evasive action. Irwin Allan did voyage to the bottom of the sea. The Seaview at least looked large enough for the flying sub.
