Excellent advice. In Manual Mode: 200 ISO 1/200 F/5.6 👈 9/10 this is where I start In daylight or good to fair lighting and I'm shooting groups like Family. If the lighting is poor. I add a Bounce flash.and adjust slightly. 1/125 or above is critical for me because i have a heavy hand shake. I admire people that can shoot 1/60 hand held. I don't bust shoot because i hate going though 100's of photos that look the same to find 30 keepers. I prefer the Shoot move slightly shoot again style so that I get slightly different views.
I love the content. You two are super consistent!!
Thank You! Always enjoy your videos!
Thanks so much!
Thank you for the video! I'm just getting into photography and this was a great help 👍
Awesome to hear!
Thank y’all so much
Always!!
Can we get more behind the scenes posing for couples and family's? With the edited images. Love those videos!
Hey! Love it. We have a posing mini-course that has a ton of this in it! Check it out here: e-squared.mykajabi.com/sales-page
Found you two recently and love your content. My biggest problem with manual mode is focus. I use the back button focus (love it) but i recompose after I focus on subjects eyes and a lot of the times my images are soft. I have been using AF-s not sure how to use AF-c but will do some research. Thanks again love your videos!
Hopefully that minor switch will help get those sharp shots! If not, it could be a lens issue. :)
Something that I wrestle with related to exposure is when to shoot a little over or under. My eye tends to like shadows. For example, I love Rembrandt lighting. But, I'd say most people like a brighter image. So, I have to remember that when I'm shooting for someone else. BTW, another reason to shoot manual is to keep a uniform exposure look for an entire shoot. If you use aperture priority you'll get varied ISO values throughout a shoot. Thanks for the tips, have a great weekend.
I’ve heard it’s better to keep underexposed than too overexposed because you won’t lose any detail and can always brighten up if needed :)
G’morning … you said you set your camera to AF-C but then said you use continuous shutter. Is this the same or another setting? Do you shoot Canon or Nikon because I know they can be a bit different? I shoot Nikon and definitely love BBF! Thanks for the Monday morning goody 🥰
could you please specify which continuous auto focus do you use? single point, small area or auto are focus?
Do you ever use flash for fill - outdoors? And do you shoot these types indoors? Settings? Related topic, maybe you have a video for, but does the background matter with these settings/what are you looking for as the background?
I learn so much from you both! My question is on shutter speed should I keep it at equal or greater than the focal length? Thank you
Double or even more! Great question
@@esquared.photography Thank you very much
How do I set the back button focus? Do we set it even on manual? Also, do we set AF-C if we’re in manual mode. Sorry - I’m new. I have a Canon 5D Mark iii
Hi I love your videos as a new photographer, what camera do you recommend and what do you use
We use a Nikon d750 primarily and we also have a Sony Mirrorless. We love both!
Currently, the SONY a7RIII is the best value for full frame mirrorless. Buy the 24-70mm and perhaps the 70-200 later on.
This may be a dumb question but is this for a mirrorless or dslr or both?
Thank you again for the video. A question for you, I use a Nikon D 500. When I'm shooting with my camera held vertically in Af-c the focus point doesn't move. Any suggestions will help. I dont have this issue when the camera is held horizontally. Thanks
I’ve never heard of that before. I don’t think it should be like that. You might want to reach out to Nikon.
Which 85mn .4 would you suggest for portrait photos? I have the 50mn 1.4. My camera is D750 too.
We use the 85 mm 1.8, but the 1.4 is even better. We love our 1.8 though :)
Where do you place your focal point when snapping photos and how many focal points do you use?
I have trouble understanding the shutter setting, also could you elaborate more on the back button focus? I have a Canon EOS R i don’t believe I’ve seen that setting
We have a video on back button focus. Try googling it for your body to see if you can find specific instructions for it. :)
Your videos are very helpful. What stresses me out the most is the focus aspect. I try the back button focus and continuous shutter but feel that my camera doesn’t pick up where I’m wanting to focus quickly so I get very nervous. Especially with family shots with kids because you need to move quickly. How many shots of a pose do you take before you get the focus point correct? If that makes any sense lol
When you use cant find shade what kind of reflector do you use? Could it be anything that gives you shade ? Im assuming something white would bounce light onto subjects 🤦🏼♀️ This is all so confusing lol im used to newborns in w studio lighting.
Which fouces modes are you using? Spot, dynamic, eye tracking, large box, small box..nikon z shooter?
Spot is what we are using :)
Thank you (spot)..but w multiple people won't only the 1 person be more fouces then the rest? Not always is whole family on same focal plane.
@@tammymartin621 nope! It’s just making sure you pick the correct person to focus on to get everyone crisp. I know we have a video on this somewhere too. Focus modes though are totally your preference. Some people like dynamic too.
My biggest problem is when there is a lot of sun! I have that shaded lens that I use sometimes.
I also have trouble with the shutter speed and knowing what to set that as.
Does AF-C run your battery down fast?
Not that I know of
I love the tutorial but you use a nikon camera and I use a Canon camera. I had to "translate" to be able to understand your settings on my camera.
incase anyone needs to know translation.
Af-c on a nikon is Al Servo on a Canon.
continuous shot on nikon is high speed continuous on Canon.
it seems every brand has their own version of how they call things. be aware
I do appreciate all the training you two are sharing though, im learning a ton.
This is what I was looking for. Thank you!!!
Meter mode?
I always have an issue with keeping the subject in focus.
What’s your favorite lens for portrait photography
50 mm
@E- Squared Hello! What could be the difference of using a sigma 56mm?
Thanks!
What cameras do you use and what is your go to lens??
Nikon d750 and Sony a7iii. 50 mm! :)
I use Canon are the lens pretty similar like tamron, sigma and canon lenses too
When u have the iso at the perfect setting and then u move and then it's not so perfect. Lol after 9 Years I still fail on this part. Lol forget when u move the light is different.
