- Alexi Lalas and David Mosse join today’s show from the east coast. Amidst their travels, the guys are always ready to talk soccer. As the leagues in Europe are wrapping up, they look at some of the best performances by USMNT players. This list includes Christian Pulisic, Antonee Robinson, Josh Sargent, and more. Also in Europe, they recap Mats Hummels’ stunner to send Dortmund to the UCL finals. Has the Bundesliga become the best league in world? (5:12)
Sending it back stateside, the US Open Cup round of 32 included a battle to the death between Houston Dynamo and Detroit City. Houston was eliminated by the USL club on penalties. MLS rivalry week is also upon us with Hell is Real and a top of the table clash in the west. (25:35)

The EPL the last 15 years has been more diverse from top to bottom and competitive. Sure, RM and Barca take the cups, but the roas is tougher being an EPL playing competitive teams every week, then having to deal with5 he best from other leagues. RM and Barca take a break playing Osasuna, Betis, etc not that those teams are horrible, but the 10-20 EPL teams are a lot tougher

To Alexi's conversation about the last time we had a player come in and wow fans, on the women's side of things I think we are seeing that currently with Croix Bethune. She is a bit older in age due to the collegiate system, but for me not having followed that and watching how she plays for Washington Spirit, I am on the hype train and would like to see her making the Olympic squad this year. Hopefully the men's team also has someone that steps up, possibly like Griffin Yow or Cade Cowell did against France in that friendly. It is going to be exciting watching them play and seeing who takes that step above.

Perhaps I am biased due to this, but I don't know if the USMNT had EVER played in North Carolina before this game and watching him score his first goal here even against weaker opponents/not a flashy goal - this moment lives on with me so vividly. I so badly wanted the USMNT to come here and play in front of our crowd and to be rewarded with a goal will be a lasting impression.

@@colinreeseyou clearly know nothing about soccer, so tell me the team in Germany, Spain and Italy who play better football than at the same quality as Man City? Did you not see the Man City vs Real Madrid game? For Me Real Madrid are the best non-English team in Europe and Man City made them look like 4 division team with 10 men behind the ball for 120 minutes and only fluked a win on PKs to beat them.
I just think the EPL teams suffer fatigue in the latter part of the season more because they play in the most difficult league top to bottom, so every game has to be played at 100% for the entire season, while half the teams in Serie A, La Liga and Bundesliga are trash so the teams can coast more and rest for champions league matches. And not disrespect but give Arsenal Dortmund’s draw and they would make a final too. One bad season doesn’t make it truth.

Second league with the most successful club: Serie A
Best performing league of the 2023-24 season: Bundesliga
Second best performing league in 2023-24 season: Serie A
Worse performing league of the 2023-24 season: Premier League
Second worse performing league of the 2023-24 season: La Liga (saved by Real Madrid).
All and all, this was a bad season for England’s Premier League and La Liga. Those two leagues are ranked as UEFA’s top two leagues and they might just lose it if the Bundesliga and Serie A have another good season.

The best league is decided by the quality of play and the quality of players. La Liga really has the best play and the best players, along with Italy.
@@colinreese A league is a competition, so whichever is the best competition has to be the best league. For me that would be the EPL
@@ian_r125It's not just that singular example, throughout all the European competitions this year teams from England have not done as well as Spain, Italy, and Germany.
That will impact their coefficient ranking so it's nothing to completely write off - I don't think England has been dethroned - but I do think it's time to show a little more respect to the other leagues and this could be the start of a trend. No league is sure to reign supreme forever, I highly doubt anyone thought that the prime Serie A would fall off the way they did as an economic powerhouse. There is no telling what could happen, for now I think EPL holds their title but it's not by the gap that people make it out to be and I think the Coefficient rankings of this year make it clear the other leagues have quality besides their top teams.
@@NoCoastRaps There is no big narrative in reality about "who has the best league". It doesnt matter to any country. This only exists online. The champions league and europa league are different competitions to the domestic leagues. Its impossible to judge a whole league by its top few clubs and how they perform in a completely different competition. Imagine there was no champions league, no european football at all, no world cup, no euros, and people were only allowed to watch one domestic league. Literally EVERYBODY will choose the prem to watch.
@@NoCoastRaps what if in 12 months time the 4 teams in the ucl final and europa league final are all english again? every time the epl doesnt clean up, there is this debate and its a waste of time. One thing remains constant. the prem is the most watched, has the most big clubs, the most rivalries and the most exciting style of football. it was the defacto best league even when la liga had prime messi and ronaldo
