    There's a lot that I want to say about the review, but alas I'm at work. I'll just start by saying that for how these swords were used, look for the montante and spadone material that is currently available. It's mainly taught in large sweeping cuts that are meant to fend off multiple opponents carrying smaller/lighter weapons

      Exactly rather than the typical story of being used to break piles and take down horses we keep hearing spread around

    Hanwei Lowlander is something like half the weight of the Ritter Steel Landsknechte. Definitely more functional.

    I own one and it is a great weapon. Handles quite well if you want to begin learning to use big two handlers, though with a longer handle than some (not to mention about 4 inches longer total length than most) you do have to slightly modify some of your movements with it when attempting the flourishes common to the Italian and Portuguese schools.

    Woah man, what a channel! I'm loving your reviews, really well spoken, clear and concise. Thanks to you I just ordered myself a windlass stiletto for Christmas. Great to find someone who's buying Hanwei and Windlass for those of us who can't afford Albions also. Best of luck, you just got yourself another subscriber!

    Footwork and followthrough body mechanics are crucial for great sword use. I didn't know this sword had quatrafoils and the acorn is a nice addition as well, my clan's war banner has an oak tree with a claymore (MacGregor) Now I have to have one

  • @bansheemopar
    @bansheemopar Před 8 lety

    The lack of a secondary ricasso and the shape of the guard towards the tip give the clear impression that it will not have had a leather wrapped "Fehlschärfe".
    The secondary ricasso (or better the lack of it) makes ist also very easily distinguishable to a german Zweihänder.

      +Medieval Review I don't think you should have your hands so far apart when swinging such a big sword, it makes your movements clunky and un-fluid..

    • @bearling477
      @bearling477 Před 8 lety

      +Chuckles No, you need your hands further apart to use proper leverage action. As he explained in the video, he has no experience with these greatswords (which makes sense, as they are pretty rare) and is simply unaware of the rules for use.
      According to the rules of Figueiredo, youre generally looking about 8 inches between fists for the iberian style of greatsword fencing, that space is vital to performing his 16 rules.

      Never had a chance to hold one of their messers, I've heard good things about their Italian long sword. overall, I think they overestimate their own product but that they don't make the worst stuff either. pretty much hit or miss, do your research before you buy from them.

    shame about the hilt issues people have been having :/ but the sword it's self is a beauty. even though you have the hanwei claymore, would you be interested in getting the arms and armor claymore? there are few out there and apparently they are better than the hanwei in terms of usability and having a better hilt due to the pommel not being a simple sphere

    I've never been a fan of threaded pommel swords, just seems way too unsafe! Is there any way one could modify a sword like that so the blade doesn't fly off the handle? Perhaps DIY peen?

    • @medievalreview
      @medievalreview  Před 8 lety +2

      +JEBUS CRIPES!!! I suppose you could cut the handle about 1-2 inches shorter, drill out the pommel and peen it. You'd need to know what you are doing to make that successful.

      Nah. Historically large swords like this were only used for war, and carried into battle typically carried with the flat of the blade resting on the shoulder, sometimes wrapped in a rag

    • @Endzhov
      @Endzhov Před 8 lety

      There isn't really a practical way to carry this in a sheath (that is if you want to carry it on the waist or the back).It is a primary weapon just like a spear,warhammer etc. and thus,doesn't need a sheath.
