Not usually a fan of hanwei, but as a lowland scot, beginning to consider getting it
I've visited Scotland, it really is quite green up there, beautiful country i must say
+landon scranton I've always wanted to visit. Advise?
Have fun breaking it. 😉 It's a wall hanger.
landon scranton must you?
There's a lot that I want to say about the review, but alas I'm at work. I'll just start by saying that for how these swords were used, look for the montante and spadone material that is currently available. It's mainly taught in large sweeping cuts that are meant to fend off multiple opponents carrying smaller/lighter weapons
Doppelsöldner
Exactly rather than the typical story of being used to break piles and take down horses we keep hearing spread around
Thanks! you actually sold me on this one. I know it ain't perfect, but then again I ain't expecting an albion for the $290 KOA currently wants for it
Hanwei Lowlander is something like half the weight of the Ritter Steel Landsknechte. Definitely more functional.
I own one and it is a great weapon. Handles quite well if you want to begin learning to use big two handlers, though with a longer handle than some (not to mention about 4 inches longer total length than most) you do have to slightly modify some of your movements with it when attempting the flourishes common to the Italian and Portuguese schools.
I messed up and bought the coldsteal greatsword maa cause it reminded me of genral kal's sword in willow. I woulda been better off paying $100 more and getting this.. ya live yeah learn..
I hope one day someone will do a video review the Irish sword from arms and armor.
You sir, are very good at making these videos.
Woah man, what a channel! I'm loving your reviews, really well spoken, clear and concise. Thanks to you I just ordered myself a windlass stiletto for Christmas. Great to find someone who's buying Hanwei and Windlass for those of us who can't afford Albions also. Best of luck, you just got yourself another subscriber!
+SkinnyRiverArtist Thanks! I try to find a good mix of low and high end swords.
Awesome, hopefully will be buying an Albion next year, fingers crossed :)
Which one you looking at?
+Medieval Review Ive been looking at The Condottiere, but also considering a few of the longswords. I own a Hanwei Rhinelander and a Hanwei Irish Viking at the mo so I'd like to get something a little higher end
+Medieval Review oh and I've also been looking at The Doge
Does anybody know of a good smith who could forge me a custom piece?
Try nepal blacksmiths on etsy
Footwork and followthrough body mechanics are crucial for great sword use. I didn't know this sword had quatrafoils and the acorn is a nice addition as well, my clan's war banner has an oak tree with a claymore (MacGregor) Now I have to have one
The lack of a secondary ricasso and the shape of the guard towards the tip give the clear impression that it will not have had a leather wrapped "Fehlschärfe".
The secondary ricasso (or better the lack of it) makes ist also very easily distinguishable to a german Zweihänder.
Review is great. But I notice that at least ones, in specification you put also data in centimeters in addition of inches. Could you return to this? It was pretty facilitation for those of us, who using centimeters.
This is often requested. what I use is the manufacturer specs. I might start doing conversion since it is often requested.
Well looks like I need a 6ft sword now
Oh shit, youve got one of those korean armor hoodies.
I wish i wasnt poor as shit, id have one of those in an instant.
I'm about to buy this sword myself
firts, I love this chanel and the review, but can you put the caracteristics of the sword in internacional system in the future too? in my country nobody use the imperial system so is imposible to me to understand the caracteristics
This is often requested. what I use is the manufacturer specs. I might start doing conversion since it is often requested.
Medieval Review
thanks!
+Medieval Review I don't think you should have your hands so far apart when swinging such a big sword, it makes your movements clunky and un-fluid..
+Chuckles No, you need your hands further apart to use proper leverage action. As he explained in the video, he has no experience with these greatswords (which makes sense, as they are pretty rare) and is simply unaware of the rules for use.
According to the rules of Figueiredo, youre generally looking about 8 inches between fists for the iberian style of greatsword fencing, that space is vital to performing his 16 rules.
YES I fucking LOVE this sword.
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
how do you feel about Cold Steel swords? specifically their grossemesser
Never had a chance to hold one of their messers, I've heard good things about their Italian long sword. overall, I think they overestimate their own product but that they don't make the worst stuff either. pretty much hit or miss, do your research before you buy from them.
right on, thanks for the response!
shame about the hilt issues people have been having :/ but the sword it's self is a beauty. even though you have the hanwei claymore, would you be interested in getting the arms and armor claymore? there are few out there and apparently they are better than the hanwei in terms of usability and having a better hilt due to the pommel not being a simple sphere
I may eventually come back around to another claymore, bit I have many swords I wish to own. :)
Medieval Review aha XD great to know :p
Is there anyway to get a sheath for it
You could make one, or have one made I suppose.
@@medievalreview Thanks. Ohh its been a year lol
all claidheamh mor (claymore) means is "big sword", so this is a claidheamh mor, maybe even a glaidheamh gle mor
Screw pommels are the enemy ^^
I want a german or spanish twohander at some point too. If i have the money ill go to ElGur if not ill go to Lutel I guess.
I already guessed that hanwei thing ould be a 3.5 :D
+Blank- blade You know, if it was peened and hilt components we more secure (to prevent potential loosening and rattling I may have given it a 4 or even 4.5. It's the basics that matter most.
Medieval Review Agreed. It is.
I've never been a fan of threaded pommel swords, just seems way too unsafe! Is there any way one could modify a sword like that so the blade doesn't fly off the handle? Perhaps DIY peen?
+JEBUS CRIPES!!! I suppose you could cut the handle about 1-2 inches shorter, drill out the pommel and peen it. You'd need to know what you are doing to make that successful.
Dude! Without a threaded pommel, how can you hope to end someone rightly?
Dude needs to cameo with that sword on Walking Dead or Fear the Walking Dead, srsly.
Lol. I do live where they filmed the walking dead. And Zombieland.
This thing doesn't come with a sheath, does it?
+Mikhail Blagodarov I don't think so, no. I got is used.
Medieval Review Thanks.
Nah. Historically large swords like this were only used for war, and carried into battle typically carried with the flat of the blade resting on the shoulder, sometimes wrapped in a rag
There isn't really a practical way to carry this in a sheath (that is if you want to carry it on the waist or the back). It is a primary weapon just like a spear, warhammer etc. and thus, doesn't need a sheath.
threadlock
try a medieval clothing, it must suit you
Get a Danelli
Now all they need to do is make a blunt greatsword for training and I'll be happy.
+Scorpio Coltman holmgang hamburg spared with fully sharp bidenhanders in full plate armor.so there's that lol.
Great sword! lol
Tony the Tiger approves.
litterally just got that joke after minutes! "Frosties, the'rrre GREAT!"
+Medieval Review so dose Richard and Rasmus
Not big enough.
Careful... This is a wall hanger...
I’m assuming there’s a specific reason for saying this?
@@ollimoore well... mine broke where the blade meets thr tang.
@@ColossalSwordFormAndTechnique thanks for the reply, that's useful information, under what circumstances did it break?
@@ollimoore hit a solid target. Like a tree limb. And it broke like a twig. I have other swords like the danish claymore greatsword by sugoi steel and the musashi nodachi. Both held strong after tree limb chops. Unlike the hanwei lowlander. I've also broken the hanwei claymore. I have the hanwei bastard sword, i ain't hitting nothing with it. Not even a water jug.
@@ColossalSwordFormAndTechnique thank you very much for the info.
