- 1970 Karmin Ghia Convertible.
This car was commissioned built by II Carsick Garage in Sarasota, Fla. for a customer, who intention was to build a super Ghia...per say. This car without doubt is the wildest creation we've ever built, and is NOT for the everyday driver. It is race prepared to the 10's, yet driven on the street daily. It can be driven like a normal Mazda or VW...short shifting....It Can also rev 10,000 RPMS instantly with the FULL RACE prepared "LOWES Performance" 13B Mazda Supercharged Rotary. The transmission and driveline have been rebuilt several times to handle the power, and finally, after 2 sets of custom axles, we finally had a German Company Custom machine the CV Joints combining 930 Por. parts. There is a year of hard work and testing on this sweet little hot rod, and she's dialed in perfect, ready for a real car guy who wants to BLOW peoples minds with the performance this car has, besides being the coolest Ghia we've ever seen done.
The owner says its way to fast for him......! and we agree....this car is wild, and super quick, and I guarantee you eat corvettes for breakfast...
To Date, we believe this is the only Karmin Ghia Convertible that has been transformed (Super Rotary) into what has been described a Corvette killer...equipped with nothing but the very best in equipment money can buy or build. Never should have sold my 1st car, a 1969 red VW Karmen Ghia, full disc brakes, irs, she was smooth & fast with all the upgrades I did myself. Used to drive her around the tracks outside of the high school football fields, around & around & around... Small, nimble, sexy, & fun. Chick magnet to be certain, especially cruising Newport Beach & Balboa Beach.
sick build. Nice job.
Nice work! I Like that you have made it into a comfortable car with aircon etc
A true work of art indeed.
Congrats on the sale. I saw it at auction yesterday in Austin and the new owner as he was cruising it out. Excellent ride and beautiful work - so impressed that I hit google this morning to see if I could find it/ great video too~
$45k?
AMAZING.
Sweet! Interesting choice, a Mazda rotary, amazing engines. I have always wanted to throw a twin turbo Porche flat six in KG, which would be more brand appropriate, but I doubt it would be as fast. Someone gave me an engine that came out of a rolled over 911, I wish I had a KG back in those days. As it was, I put that in a VW "Thing", which was just nuts fun. Had to take the hood off, and put an extended cage on the back, and had to put lawn mower wheels on that to make it double as a wheelie bar. In fact, I had one other "innovation" on that. I disconnected the blower levers, and tied them to the parking brake cables, one on each side after they split, so that those two levers could be used as lateral steering when the front wheels were off the ground, and they were a lot of the time.
I love rotary engines I had one in a Datsun 510 with a bad clutch and it kick butt even with bad clutch thing was a screamer
It's gorgeous!!
Gets with the program !!! The one I had would lift the fronted at over a buck 10 or 20 now I don’t have that problem my C2 911 solved it !!!
Blows ice cubes, eats Corvettes, and braps?! Wooo! What more van you ask for?🤯
GOD This Baby Sounds So Damn nice!!
I suggest correct the title to Karmann-Ghia
Nice ghia!
love it
You couldn't get me to put that rotary emblem ' that killed it.
I just Love economy cars
Did I miss it or is there no speedometer? It looks like a speeding ticket magnet...
That is a gorgeous KG but you got to do something with the license plate sticks out like a sore thumb.
Not a fan of the mismatch gauges but other than that it's beautiful
James Godwin , the dash is a cluster fuck lol.. I made my own center console. for a unmolested dash
I agree, ruins the car
Lots of hard work, panel gaps. Wood panel? Short cuts
That is, by far, the most wicked-sounding VW engine ever
It's a Mazda engine.
Front right tire is missing a lug 👌
Erik F. En
Haha, guy is SOOOO serious in the video...... Spells it wrong in the description.... Nice damn job though, im jelly!
should have 4 wires 2 for leading 2 for trailing
i dont like the guages.and the oil cooler mounted like it is.other than that its a wicked car.and reliable too.shes a beauty
what size supercharger? :/
Needs a drop kit. Not scraping but lowered. Love the engine.
karmin ghia? is it different than karmann ghia ?
It needs Crome Bumpers
Awesome but I think you over did it
Sleeper from hell...hell cat killer...
How much would this car cost in Canadian funds?
PPG color code SAHMNO red.
Great-looking little car, but I prefer the Karmann Ghia to the "Karmin" Ghia. And Wilwood brakes are far superior to "Wildwood" brakes. The mixture of gauge styles doesn't really work.
Should be Charmin Ghia because you'll $h1t your pants when you step on it!
The rotary sign is in poor taste in such an awesome machine. I can see why the customer was scared to death as a driver of less than drag strip certification can kill him self in it. This car needs awesome brakes and suspension. Possibly a chute for the track. May be you put the cooler up front and pipe the oil to it. Possibly could under body baffle to direct air to vooler. Btw what did it sell for?
if its a 13b of a mazda rx8 why isnt it limited at 9000rpm?
+The Real Santa Claus If you read the description, he states that the 13B was out of an '85 FB so 7500 RPM is about what you'd expect.
JD Martin
thank you
why ?
Nice GHIA, but why are all these in red.. boring do a two tone something other than red
Everything has been touched, and molested !
have been it sold ?
That gas cover could fit better! Lol. Just kidding. Great work!
Where’s the bumper
spell Karmann Ghia
3 spark plug wires cause rotary
Interior needs work match the gauge bezel color and not autozone tachometer.
Karmin?
Carmen martinez
How come 3spark plug wires
+Edrick Martinez-Rodriguez +Mike Oxner
It looks like the distributor is running trailing only and the leading plugs are fired by their own individual MSD coil.
Why would you limit it to 7500? It could safely handle 9000 to 10000.
Switching from rotaries to motorcycle engined cars for a moment. One wonders about limiting revs to between 6500 to 8000 so that the automotive transmissions could handle the engine. If you had to add a power adder like a turbo or a supercharger to get lower rpm torque and HP so be it.
what the hell is a"Karmin"? As far as I know it is a "Karman Ghia"!
^It's Karmann! Double check the spelling before you start correcting others.....Bunch of dummies!
Why all the different colour and different style guages?
Also... It's a Karmann Ghia. LOL.
undersized steering wheel... no P/S good luck.
I bet its light, the engine is in the back...if not, pump some iron.
I like it mostly but that tacky rotary plaque with the hole in it... ugh!!! Yuck!!!!
I hope you are not a Nigerian prince or something... I haven't seen that much misspellings since that letter from my prince.
Karmin?!? Learn the name, Karmann.
I know you put a lot of money on this car, hopefully the mechanical part is done well, but to be honest the end product is ugly. The bitsy styling (bits of this and bits of that) really ruins the car. Please look at Jochen Bader karmann here in you tube. That is a fine example of an engine swap done right, great engineering with a Prosche motor, I would buy that one, not this one.
I like the car don5 like the gauges though.
I don't like the red....it's not a Ferrari. Mismatched gauges I don't like either...with that kind of power, there should also be a roll cage...$45k invested....final bid $25k. Great investment.
Car idiots vandalizing an old car deserve not better !
ugliest seats in the world.
Sunfaded black. 45k but couldn't through in some freshly upholstered lowered 85 Toyota Celica Supra seats' like i had in my 68 vw.
Awful
corvette killer my arse not even if the vette was running on 6 cylinders
power to weight ratio it's possible
Yes it will destroy a corvette. It only weighs 1,750 pounds.
Not loud enough
