    A Change of Seasons is a song about the life experiences of drummer Mike Portnoy up to that point. His childhood, the death of his mother in a plane crash (which affected him greatly), growing up, making mistakes, learning lessons, and striving to pass on his philosophy of "seize the day" to his kids when he gets old

    So far, the highest accolade DT has is a Grammy nomination. They have won several awards from music publications either as a group or individually, but not a major award such as the Rock and Roll HoF. The closest hall of fame award they have is the Long Island Music Hall of Fame with three of the founding members being residents of Long Island, New York
    Also, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame awards popular musicians, those that are in the cultural zeitgeist with or without hearing their music. DT is not known to general music fans, and most of their fans are musicians who are deep into their respective instrument, so yeah, tough chance for DT

    When their singer James Labrie sings 'Oh come let us adore him, abuse and then ignore him'. 'No matter what don't let him be, lets feed upon his misery, lets string him up for half the world to see' James is singing about what Mike Portnoy ( drummer & writer of the lyrics for this song) was feeling after the plane crash in his living room when all of these relatives and friends were over telling him how sorry they were and how great his mother was. Mike barley knew them and his mom probably had not spoken to or seen most of them in years. " I'm sick of all you hypocrites, holding me at bay and I dont need your sympathies to get me through the day", that's what Mike was feeling listening to all of their fake sympathies.

  • @jamesgoldman6942
    @jamesgoldman6942 Před 3 lety +2

    I'm pretty sure the fall is referring to the plane that the drummers ( Mike Portnoy's ) mom was on was falling from the sky. His mom died in a plane crash when Mike was in HS. That very day Mike's health teach told the class to seize every day because life is always changing. Before she left for her flight Mike did something he had not done in a long time and told his mom that he loved her. He had remembered what his teacher had told the class earlier in the day. Later that night her plane crashed killing her. When the song starts innocence is portrayed as the song moves along that innocence fades ( A Change of Seasons). For me this is the GREATEST piece of music ever written & performed. Maybe I'm wrong but this is how I interpret this GREAT GREAT song. Thank you once again for your channel and playing this.

    About the "short set" joke
    DT concerts are long solo-act shows that last around 3 hours (with a 15 minute intermission). That line is just pure irony on their part since they really take their time and they often play whole albums in just one set. A whole album of theirs lasts about over an hour, average of 70-75 minutes. The first half may consist of fan-favorite songs.

    • @elBanananas
      @elBanananas Před 3 lety +4

So yeah, they're pretty well tuned into social media. P.S. - John Myung's bass neck has an incrusted moebius ring (symbol of eternity), not a DNA strand. ;)

    James LaBrie has solo albums and also shows up in the Ayreon albums. I don't think you've reacted to any Ayreon yet so you'll be in for a treat. The "band" is really the brainchild of one guy Arjen Lucassen who writes everything as a concept album and almost all of the albums are tied together in their own universe. He recruits other musicians and vocalists to perform on his albums. James has been on a few of the albums as well as many other notable rock/metal/prog vocalists you may recognize. I'd definitely recommend the official video for The Day That The World Breaks Down.

      There is also Avantasia which leans more on the hard rock/power metal spectrum but also has multiple vocalists, including the amazing Jorn Lande! I would consider that more rock/metal opera.
