The house soon so much work that the only people interested in it were the investors who buy homes to renovate and resell. It seems they really believe that the only way to sell it for a good amount just to make it look very modern. So almost certainly they will gut it. Hopefully before that happens we will get out as much of the architectural salvage as possible. It’s really a shame because the ultra modern look will be dated in a decade or so, but that is what the market seems to want right now.

Hi, This is Margaret Elizabeth. I see some people are confused and have questions in the comments about the house. I just wanted to make it clear that it is not my house. It is the house where I grew up, but it still belongs to my mother. She is now 94 and came to live with my husband and me several years ago. I moved out of the house in 1989. We now live in New Jersey, in a mid-century split level. We have brought home a lot furniture, artworks, books, linens, all kinds of things from that house. But we already had our own, and some things from my husband’s family, and there is a limit to what we can keep! And I will confess to being more mid century in my tatstes, sorry Scott! I always used to say if I had my dream house it would look a lot like the Brady Bunch! So we couldn’t fit the older pieces into our decor very well. But we definitely do not want them to be destroyed! I want them to go to people who will appreciate them.

It’s amazing to see a house where hardly anything has been thrown out for over 100 years. I could spend hours there imagining the lives of the previous owners through their things. Fascinating.

Thank you for taking the time to walk us through this old home. I was a little sad at the intro part when I looked at the wooden knob with all the black build up around it. So many fingers grabbed that knob and left memories of years of use. When I see old pieces like that and bannisters with shadows where lamps stood, I always imagine how someone lived there and passed that light on their way to bed. I think of the stories and it always makes me a little sad to see the state of how things have become. I hope you have lots of people come that fall in love with all these old pieces and lovingly restore them to build their own memories with. Thanks Scott.

Many of these items will get new life in their new homes, but the history of it all is really overpowering. Definitely an element of sadness in the now quiet house, with its layers of dust and now silent rooms. Scott, I know Margaret Elizabeth said you can take what you want, but I do admire the restraint and respect in your voice as you went through the house looking at the treasures. That says a lot about your character. 😸Also, that you thought to send that old clock to me is so thoughtful. Thank you so much, my friend! I only hope I can do it justice! 🙏

I used to work for this smaller non profit thrift store and we were only to put the best of the best stuff out for sale and I can’t even tell you how much I dug out of our trash and kept (with permission of course)! After awhile my coworkers and even my boss would just keep a lot of stuff and hold it aside to see if I wanted it. A lot of it would be broken or chipped or torn but they knew I would save it 9 times out of 10 😉

Thank you for highlighting my comment. That house is so beautiful. I am glad someone bought it and are going to fix it up. It needs some people to love it and work on it.

Thank you for highlighting my comment again. Think about how many times people used those buttons in all these years. This house reminds me of the how many people had nothing and grabbed trashy things from the side of the road. Fixed the chair or table up and kept that piece of furniture till they died. Not everyone was able to go to a furniture store and buy new pieces. Family would pass around things they had no use for, and this is how many people got new things. Then flea markets or charity shops were also a good way to find new things for your home. This is what l like to think about, how cities developed and old houses that l could make crazy looking. Thank you again. 👹🎃💚🌹🧿😻👹🎃💚🌹🧿😻👹🎃💚🌹🧿😻👹🎃💚🌹🧿😻👹🎃💚🌹🧿😻👹🎃💚🌹🧿😻👹🎃💚🌹🧿😻👹🎃💚🌹🧿😻👹🎃💚🌹🧿😻👹🎃Hey that dude who used to date Kim K was dyslexic too, he never wrote a single word the whole time he was on SNL. Davison had someone helping him writing . Gee wiz!!! I have been writing my own emails, and they have used my intellectual property. Oops it just slipped out. The veils are very thin between the worlds this time of year. I guess I am tired of keeping my anger in. All religions are mixtures of several different beliefs or dogmas.

Oh how I wish I lived closer. But, alas, I am in the midwest. So many wonderful pieces of history just waiting to have a new life! I hope they find new homes and are appreciated and are cherished!

It has been sold to a developer and will be renovated and remodeled. Cities like Philadelphia and Baltimore have endless streets with thousands and thousands of row houses built well over 150 years ago. Some are restored and some become remodeled. Architectural salvage companies are usually called to save and resell fireplace surrounds, stained glass and fancy woodwork. The home will have a fresh new look which appeals to some and the lovely old interior decorations will find their way into new or old homes for future generations to love and cherish.

Awe…this was a beautiful tribute to the old house. My grandparents had those “push button” light switches. Wish I could go to the Saturday event.

Oh, PLEASE do more videos like this! Loved it! I'll bet you get to go through a lot of these old homes having estate sales, etc. being near a city as old as Philly. The old baby shoes and one white glove in the box you opened near the beginning would have made a great shadowbox display, arranged just as you found it when first opened. I could just feel the softness of the old leather as you touched them! And all those old books!! I could have spent a couple of hours plonked right there on the floor quite happily. (Can you tell that I'm missing my old Estate Sale Plundering Days, lol?)
