Gurkhas kick off with a bang in explosive start to life as an engineer

- Thirty-two Gurkhas have embarked on a 12-week combat engineer course, which all sappers must complete, to become fully qualified members of the Queen's Gurkha Engineers.
Braving freezing temperatures in Hampshire, they had their first taste of working with live explosives and nerves were running high.
"If you find me shivering it’s not because of the nervousness - it's because of the cold!" said trainee Sapper Sagar Hamal.

I remember doing this course during my time serving. Human instinct is to leg it after you've set the fuze. You're taught to just walk away and have confidence in your ability that you did it right.
I so hope we never lose the Gurkhas!!!

Amazing Gurkhas! Nothing macho about them, but they're very highly selected. They have a positive attitude and they're very tough and determined.
We saw one of the sappers hold the detonator far from his body while crimping - just the detonator alone smacked too hard gives off quite a bang. No room for error here. Good luck Sappers!

The Gurkhas just demonstrate that the toughest, fire eating warriors are also the most polite and modest. They've no need to swing their egos around, they just get on with it. When they eventually retire we need them as teachers and mentors in our schools.🇳🇵🇬🇧👍

no it hasn't, they've been discriminated against. Gurka soldiers get a fraction of the pension to which British-born soldiers are entitled. Gurkha veterans in Britain are paid 300 percent less than their British compatriots. @@user-ly4el7qf7t
