      @Jeffemano Showing signs of use and letting your tools sit in grime and muck are two very different things. If you knew anything about good mechanics, you'd know that the good ones are OCD about their tools. Why? because you take care of what makes you money.

  • @nyplantingsgardendesigners5645

    Note the clean shop? No distractions. This man makes good example: It is the engine builders' responsibility to check clearances and proper machining, taper, out of round surface prep, fillet radii.., ring end gaps.. finally...not the machine shop or the parts manufacturers. In other words, you don't just assemble the parts hoping it all works. 90% of the time it may work but if it fails you can't hassle the crankshaft company or machine shop. If they send you out of round crank catch it BEFORE you assemble. No substitute for a good tech school but experience comes from life. Everyone wants to build engines too!
    This is the work I was trained for, that I should have been doing and love. Godspeed.

    • When you reamed the mains, did you leave the surface as it was after reaming? Did you deburr the edges?
    • Aren't you afraid of introducing hairline cracks at the front of the crank, when you torque the conrod bolts, while the crank is only supported at one end?
    • Aren't you afraid of a plain cloth's fibers getting in some oil passage, and blocking it?
    • Did you deburr the piston rings, after grinding them to the appropriate size?

    Never seen main bearing bores reamed like that before although I've yet to have a Subaru (plenty of VW, Alfa-Romeo, even Citroene flat fours) One thing, dropping bolts into holes in alloy crankcases can cause thread to 'roll' and give a false torque reading on final assembly. (I used to do a lot of Japanese motorcycle engines)

    • @maneki9neko
      @maneki9neko Před 5 lety

      His technique is very, very good. That is said I agree with you about the dropped bolts. It is easy to peen and roll under the leading edge of the first thread on the block. The only other item I might change is the application of case sealant. Spreading the bead with small plastic or wooden spatula will help prevent the sealant from extruding out of the join to the side.

    тот, кто хоть немного понимает в метрологии, наверное, начал громко орать уже на 5 минуте видео. Если нужно измерить допуски то пределы задаются никак не выставлением индикатора микрометра. а нужно набирать концевой мерой и только потом переносить на микрометр с фиксированием. а не этот анекдот. Он просто показал якобы видимость измерений но не их правильность.
