RIP BIG EDDIE P
NEVER FORGET OUR MARCHING ORDERS!!
❤❤❤❤ RIP Ed Piskor
Maaaan, the boys were really professional to have this many episodes in the hopper. One of these days soon, my heart is going to break all over again. And it still hasn't healed from the first time.
We're now further away from 1993 than 1963 was when this came out.
I feel old
EDDIE P FOREVER!
Comics is a large fantastic world, Ed and Jim helped open that world for me. Kayfabe forever!
this is THE kayfabe comic. i watched an interview with Veitch and he said Moore told them this was all to be done like period. they couldnt help but put some tongue in cheek but Moore would reign them all in and tell them "no parody". thisis likethe Andy Kaufman of comics. i really wish they would collect all of this and maybe even make more issues.
The line tint used here is 50%, not 25. The 25% tints are dots as per “usual”.
Having said that, this was just the same as the usual standard Craftint color separation method used on a majority of Golden Age US comics. Lines for all the 50% tints. Have a look at one ( a real one, not a reprint) and you‘ll see those lines.
By 1963 IRL almost all publishers had dropped Craftint for the acetate method. Back to dots.
(Charlton used Craftint a bit longer.)
I corresponded with Steve Bisette about this.
The tints were Anderson‘s choice. Not planned as a homage to Craftint as I thought.
I don’t suppose many are reading this now. I would have liked to have said this to both Ed and Jim.
Kudos to them for noticing the odd tints anyway.
This is great info! Thanks for sharing
You made that 9 part blog about coloring in comics pre-Image? Going as far as back to the patent by Ben Day?
1:02:10 Jim’s saying this is the most pleasing comic reading experience since Calvin + Hobbes- C+H, 1963 and Groo are my only go to re-reading comics experiences and ones I typically do before bed for the same reason
Over 2 Hrs?!.......something says that this the final closure of everything that once was.
Whatever happens next, It's been an honor to participate in this journey.
Killroy was here.
I doubt that.
I dread the final episode landing. I hope they had just a ridiculous amount of episodes in the can.
I LOVED this series but at the time it flopped REALLY hard. Was working for Diamond at the time and many fans and some retailers didn't "get it" complaints of cheap paper, bad art 😅 Crazy.
RIP Ed.🙏
These collected episodes are perfect!
I got two of these, some of my favorite material to revisit. I had the same reaction as Ed growing up, totally thought Image was way older hajaha. Thanks for the vid Jim, prayers and thoughts
they are still affordable, get the others!
This is such a great compilation episode. Thanks so much for posting this, Jim. More power to CK! RIP Eddie P.
Finnegans Wake ... was published in 1939
I bought these off the rack back in the day. They were a good read, and i’m not a Alan Moore fan.
Thank you !!!
❤️
Thank you. 1963 was the best series from Image at the time. I'm a big fan of Don Simpsons but his 1963 annual was a bit of a let down.
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Wow thank you for sharing this treasure trove Jim
Oh, and a supplementary discussion on the Wikipedia says:
According to Alex Cox, 1963 1/2 was intended to be a 6-issue comic book series. The plot of 1963 1/2 centered upon the assassination of JFK & the involvement of space aliens therein, and the protagonists were David Ferrie (seen briefly in 1963 issue #6) and a Japanese punk rocker called Yuki. A 1993 interview with Paul Mavrides essentially confirms the information provided by Cox. Neither source gives any indication about how much progress Mavrides made on the job of illustrating Cox & Rude's script, however. The year of 1963's release (by Image Comics) and the planned released of 1963 1/2 was 1993, which was also the year that Tundra Publishing went out of business & its assets were purchased by Kitchen Sink Press. It may just be coincidental, but perhaps the unpublished status of 1963 1/2 might have been a result of Tundra Publishing's financial collapse."
Keep it up!
What an episode! Wow!
