- Jim Shooter dips into the Gold Key well for the second Valiant Universe book. Barry Windsor Smith is along for part of the ride.

Love the feel of early Valiant comics! Thanks for the entertaining review. 😀
I remember some older guys talking about how it reminded them of early Marvel. At least continuity and world building aspects.
I started reasing Valiant with Bloodshoot #0.
So I missed a lot of the early Valiant issues.
I have Bloodshot 0. I will cover it eventually.
I've enjoyed all of the pre-Acclaim Valiant books I've tired (some Rai, Turok, Eternal Warrior and X-O Manowar) I always wanted to read these...Valiant BWS seems a little restrained compared to some of his other work, but it still looks great.
He was working within Jim Shooter’s guidelines so probably held back some his more creative urges. Although I’ve read quotes from him saying his Archer & Armstrong run is one of his favorite works in comics.
The original Doctor Solar was more like DC's Captain Atom. Shooter turned him into a Dr Manhattan clone, and I find that power level boring.
I think the story for a character like this is more about the how the human mind can cope with having such power.
@@read.your.comics True. But Shooter wrote Solar as a "detached god view", negating your idea.
