  • The seas were angry that day my friends...like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli. God just didn't want us boating on this lovely day

Bummer! What caused the motor to stall? I took the kids and a friend to Lake Arenal in Costa Rica. My Boston Whaler Sport 11 and Chrysler 20 HP plus three adults and an 9 year old on the 11 footer was nice. My motor had not been started in 3 years, but I had it fogged to prevent damage to the motor. However, it took quite a few strokes to start. It didn't idle thought but we had no mishaps on the lake lest we mention a storm that hit us on the way to the dock!

Motor not run for decade needs tax for sure idle around for longer period an the starter is working hard no I never key for 3-5 seconds at a shot . I would keep an eye on potential failure there down the lake. Nice motor pairing for boat .

It turned out to be an electrical issue with the power pack. Replaced the power pack and is now running great

if you eventually repower with a new 40-60hp (same weight) you’ll have a boat for YEARS to come

We were debating to re-power and just about when we were gonna pull the trigger, I found a 15ft whaler, so I am gonna sell the 13 ft

You were too eager to run the boat and did not do your due diligence if a complete service of that old engine or don't be cheap and buy a new 4 stroke that's reliable

I took the boat to my mechanic before going on the water. He cleaned the carbs and replaced the plugs. Started right up, but turns out it was the power pack that finally went bad. He replaced it and boat runs great now. But yes you are right regarding the 4 stroke. I would like to repower. The motor is VERY loud cause the exhaust is above the water line and not out the propeller like most newer motors

@@mountdoravintageThose older small two stroke outboards will run forever. That particular motor is especially loud because the SPL was the "budget" line of engines and they had the above water exhaust. The regular 25 or 35 engines back then had through hub exhaust and were very quiet. I had a 1996 Evinrude 25 that ran flawlessly for about 15 years with nothing done to it except replacing one set of plugs after about 6 years. I made sure I ran all the gas out of the engine every time I used the boat and it never failed to start on the first or second pull no matter how long it had been sitting.
