      There's a hundred ways to alley dock relax, breathe and steer the trailer where you want it to go, two weeks ago I did three in a row, no pull ups, a different technique the next day couldn't get one, then Friday couldn't get it, then a rain storm came, turned on the wipers,, did better not being able to see,, lol. two things helped me, stop, turn a little, then roll ....a little, stop see whats happening, repeat, slow and steady until you get the idea.
      Setup is equally important.
      If you can, come in late, it's easier to fix, try to, hold the fold, if you jacknife, it will be harder and you will need pull ups.

    Getting ready to take a test, the issue is the "3 foot" section you have to stop in. You aren't allow to walk it off in back and then front to know where to stop, other then just "eyeing" it how do you ensure you don't over shoot or under shoot the spot?

      Fourth time I got it in perfect without any extra pull ups. But, I sounded the horn outside of the boundary line and fucking fucked it.

      I mean, I recommend just going for it, and asking the tester what you did wrong afterwards. Slow down and think before using any pull ups (you get 12 pull ups before you fail after the 2 free) and don't be afraid of using your get outs.

      Here is the Problem- when steering in Dirt and gravel parking lots, they grab harder and turn faster than an asphalt lot. Sage lots and most other schools are almost ALWAYS dirt and gravel and the Instructors are always Harping on Oversteering and overcorrecting. So what is happening it that your Muscle and memory have become used to fast reactions during steering and not the slowness of the turn reaction on an asphalt lot, so you end up UNDERSTEERING and Under correcting on asphault.

    Im in class for CDL training and ALLEY Docking is my next yard skill manuever to nail i seen how you were to steer right when reverse then straight and the steer right again and then reverse to get the trailer in the box is that pretty much how it goes?

    • @nicholasburlingame3849
      @nicholasburlingame3849 Před 4 lety +9

      The simple answer is yes. You can turn your wheel to either the left or the right to get a different reaction out of the trailer. For example: if you turn the wheel to the Right, the tail of the trailer will go to the Left (and it pushes you farther away from the front corner cone). If you turn the wheel to the Left, the tail of the trailer will go to the Right (and it will start to cut the trailer into the alley dock box). The reason I cut Right and then back to Straight is because I want to push the trailer away from the front cone, BUT I STILL WANT TO MAINTAIN THE TRACTORS 45-DEGREE ANGLE. And when the rear of my trailer is where I want it, I will turn the wheel to the Left and my trailer should go straight into the box. I hope this helps!
