I had the pleasure to grow up with, mechanically maintain, operate and take care of a 1919 American LaFrance fire engine, it was part of the purchase of a business, Floyd Electric Co in Baton Rouge La back in the sixties. A truly miraculous piece of history.

After watching this, it makes me wish I did buy my town's '80 GMC Sierra brush truck. But, they decided to keep it as a parade/funeral truck, by doing that, it's the first truck they've ever kept. To my knowledge, there's only one of the old trucks that remains, and its a '50s American LaFrance that is in private ownership.

FIREMEN were Never considered in these old trucks. Here in CA....they would buy firetrucks with no roofs. they figured you dont need it. Until around the late 80s they would have the crew ride outside the truck. Till someone figured after several car wrecks in the RAIN.....HMMM maybe it would be a good idea for them to have a roof....The controllers and city purchasers would not pay for the roof. Never asking the firemen what they needed. Could you imagine. going on several rescues? After your done you need to go to the gas station and fill up the truck SOAKING WET...Back to the firehouse, Just get dried off, and the bell rings again. Buddy of mine told me these stories. He is the only one alive from his firehouse. Everyone else died over time from complications over the years after a chemical fire. He has cancer now too but in his 70s..

The pump spins but makes some bearing noises I don't like so at this time it doesn't but could after some simple servicing.
