Your response itself sounds similar to what you accuse him of tbh. Attack his opinion, while providing nothing to back up your claims. Basically a more thought out way of saying "no your dumb". Overpopulation is easily one if not the most major contributors to the crisis in American prison systems today. Things like privatized prisons, lack of qualified security, lack of rehabilitation and mental health programs are all run offs of having too many people locked up because they cost money. It also creates a large group of individuals who are no longer bondable for work positions that could give them another shot at life. I could go on but arguing why the American prison systems are amongst the worst globally is pointless as the numbers speak loud and clear!

Harsher prison conditions along with harsher sentences actually incentivize people to not want to return back to prison, hence not reoffending. Take a look at Germany with their really progressive prison system; prisoners get their own clothes, computer, and bedroom… sounds great right? Well actually there is a 15-20% higher recidivism in Germany compared to USA because it turns out when you give evil people a nice place to go to after committing heinous acts, they’ll just head right back to their nice little bedroom with their computer. I’d rather live in a society with harsher prison sentences and a way lower recidivism rate than having a ‘progressive’ prison system only to have more violent people reoffend. Not the place I want my family to grow up in.

You might see hints of cruelity in some apes, chimps primarily, but even then it's not torture like we do.

@@dfinma Cruelty for it's own sake can also be seen in the both great apes and orcas. Chimpanzees will engage in warfare between tribes and will ritualistically cannibalise chimps that they kill in battle after slowly ripping them apart. Orcas are known to play with their food, throwing seals between members of a pod until the seal is dead before eating it or by deliberately lengthening a hunt. Both of these actions can reasonably be understood as forms of torture.
As both of these species are highly intelligent relative to the majority of the animal kingdom it's more accurate to say that cruelty as a trait is limited to highly intelligent creatures rather than only humans.

Yes, I spent time in Terminal Island, and some of the most disgusting, degrading displays of bad behaviour came not from the inmates but the guards. To think that some of these people hold positions of power and authority over human lives is a terrifying proposition. There is this belief held amongst a lot of the guards that if you treat people like animals that somehow this helps with rehabilitation and preparing them to be released back into society. Sadly, it doesn't have that effect. It causes people to hate and scars them for life. I met Roger in TI. I can say that he is about the nicest gentlest man one could ever meet. The US prison system is horrific.... Take a look at European prisons (especially in the northern countries), there is no such thing as toxic gang behaviour over here;) of course there are groups that stick together but the mentality and vibes are so much more chilled. They are not on their tippy toes all day in anticipation of a fight/stabbing or whatever. Treat prisoners like animals and they will behave as such, treat prisoners humanely and give them a somewhat "normal" life inside prison and they won't turn batshit crazy. The main purpose of a prison shouldn't be to punish the criminals, the main purpose is to protect society from those criminals. Being locked inside a complex you can't leave is enough of an punishment. Your criminals get very little chance to improve themselves if they have to live the same "street life" (or arguably an even worse version of "street life) inside the prison.....

I find it difficult to believe you were on what the Marshall called Con Air because California state prisons have complete facilities in Oklahoma all over the country and they routinely I'm talking probably daily have a transport vehicle going from Oklahoma to California it is much more expensive dangerous and much more hassle to go such a short distance there's no way they put you on that you were shipped in a van but you want to sound like you are somebody like you know what's going on but anybody that knows better you can't even read sight the proper names for certain things within that CDC or the names that inmates would use. They put you in isolation for your own safety you are a small man that had no friends from a different country in one of the most racially-charged violent ruthless places you could find in America it was for your safety but that wouldn't sound good and Lex would not know any different hell he's reciting Shawshank Redemption. There's no way old man you walked into the Hispanic TV room nor did you walk into the blacks without the white boys probably killing you disrespecting the others you're a liar and a pathetic one when I got to Oklahoma and got to the floor they told me my parole hearing the person that was there from Washington had already left and would be back in a year. Pardon me what did you say? The floor where are you a fucking Dancehall and there would not be one person for a parole hearing nor would they come from Washington you were in a state facility they would have come from California as a matter of fact they have parole board members that live in the area all of that out-of-state CDC facilities even a federal facility parole board members would not come from Washington they would be local lies again and these are just the ones on pointing out in the first 6 minutes you're a liar a poor excuse of a convict you have no dignity honour or integrity they must have run a train on you because you're a lying little pathetic man
