FYI, I often ask basic questions of the format:
    "What is a graviton?"
    "What is a neural network?"
    "Who is Oliver North?"
In one sense I know the answers to these questions, in another I don't, because I believe something new can be discovered every time you attempt to explain things simply.
These questions are for the listener, to get the basics and the context on the table before we discuss details. Also it's nice to get an expert to attempt to simply explain the basics as they understand them. Sometimes beautiful insights can be revealed just in that effort.

This one Poli Sci professor used repeat himself in his lectures, quite often, saying that the wars we got into was because the CIA always said we should depending on where harvesting of drugs would be profitable. It's no coincidence we wound up in Afghanistan because of heroin.

Most of the opium products on our streets in the past couple decades come from Mexico, while the fentanyl and synthetic drugs come mostly from China. China is using fentanyl to kill our citizens who abuse heroin. This is a very intentional thing which could be stopped easily by the Chines, but they prefer to use this in their total war approach. I don't see us invading Mexico, even though the cartels do impose a serious security risk to the US.

We spent the night in the owners home and had a few drinks. The next day we went to one of the hangers with the owner's son, who was going to pilot our ride. He showed us all of the planes they owned. It was like 20-30, maybe more as this was just one of the hangers. ‘Circumventing funding mechanism’ is a euphemism. Congress passed the Boland Amendment which clearly prohibited US assistance to overthrow the Sandinista government. Reagan basically said, ‘FU Congress. I’m in charge of foreign policy and if you don’t give me the money to help the Contras fight the Sandinistas, I’ll get it somewhere else.’ He then appointed Vice Admiral Poindexter in charge of the operation and Poindexter got Lt. Colonel Oliver North to run it.
CIA claims it never approved drug running because it would have killed the operation if it was ever discovered. Yeah, pretty sure the CIA is always torpedoing any project which might involve illegality or bad publicity if discovered.

Irony is that you have been conditioned to distrust the government.
Republicans have long tried to abolish a lot of the institutions, by running it into the ground and then pointing out how bad it works.
Only institution that majority of Americans believe works is the military. The same military that keep arms manufacturers and companies with mercenaries wealthy.
But then there is also the issue that politicians with lots of funds have traditionally won elections. And they have gotten their money from rich people and lobbyists.
And in return they expect them to make rich people and companies richer.
So if you have distrust in government, it is not because people are incompetent. It is by design and propaganda.

The irony is that the vast majority of media supports government so where your “conditioning” theory comes from is a mystery. The military doesn’t make decisions about arms purchases or foreign policy, the bought politicians do.
You are correct about money deciding who gets elected and as such my comment stands.

@@marcusaetius9309 liberal media outlets like cnn and msnbc doesn’t at least talk shit about all the institutions. But problem is right wing media still does and have for decades. That and like I said, it is not completely untrue that many institutions work bad, when republicans tries to run it into the ground so they can either outsource it to private companies or just abolish it all together, because fuck poor people.
But it is not like democrats are not to blame either. Usa have pretty much had a complete void of left wing politicians since the 80’s. And democrats have in large been corporate democrats who often have been passive after republicans made tax cuts and deregulations.
Same goes for many countries. After the 70’s there was a global acceptance amongst politicians and economists that neoliberalism and to some extent unregulated capitalism was the way to go, and this is something that every party that was center left or to the right of that built their policies around.
It has of course not been so great in many areas.
But no doubt there are still many institutions that still provide a lot of value and that actually do a lot of work, that would they be removed it would cost the tax payers more money and it would be worse of for climate, nature, health and so on.
We do see this in Sweden, where the conservatives who are economically to the right, basically republicans light. They have sold of a lot of state owned companies and services, including privatization of education. And there are extremely few benefits, and all of the things that isn’t directly funded by taxes have been directly more expensive. And those things that are funded by taxes are indirectly more expensive, many times because the value of the services like in schools have decreased while they still get the same amount of money.
And no, I didn’t say that the military makes those decisions. But it is in the interest of all politicians to give the perception of the military as trustworthy for multiple reasons.
One is because they want to be able to give them huge portions of the budget and to not have people complain. A lot of those money then goes into civilians pockets.
Same reason why usa started a bunch of wars under bush. Many people think it was oil, but in reality it was to funnel tax money into the pockets of cheneys buddies.

Anytime someone touches on touchy subject in which they are/were involved in or have deep knowledge of, but do not have control over, it is expected that they will backtrack and hide information, or bring the information in a different, often positive light to protect themselves.
Like Alex Jones, he's really crazy, he's a train with no breaks, but he ALWAYS deflects on certain subjects because he does not want to become the next Julian Assange or Edward Snowden, these "conspiracy theorists" are allowed to keep speaking because they're not disclosing all of the information they know, if they do, those with power will either lawfully or unlawfully prosecute them like they do with spies and defectors. This is no joke, governments will knock on your door if you, for instance, make public classified operations.
