    of all the vids of these i've seen, you are literally the only one thats actually shown that you treated the rust properly..it set my ocd off when i see a vid and i don't know if they've fixed the rust or just covered.. it also gets my ocd off when they drill into metal to mouint stuff, but don't treat the bare metal they've caused in the process...

    • @willsvanadventures
      @willsvanadventures  Před 2 lety +6

      @@bertv7373 that's alright no worries. I'm no expert either haha umm I guess you could but only if the spots got wet. As it's inside the new holes shouldn't get wet and therefore shouldn't rust.

    I'm shortly buying a VW Caddy Life and will do a simple conversion like this (I mean, you did it properly), for anyone watching who's thinking of getting a small van like this, to convert into a camper, the Caddy is a good choice, there's also a Peugot Partner tepee, A Fiat Doblo or a Ford Tourneo Courier, and others.. a slightly larger but good, reliable van would be something like a Nissan NV200...You can get it with windows all around like the other cars mentioned too... Peace...

    Hello, good job,beautifull guys.
    Some things i would have done different.
    For example,using Wood i think It will increase the weight if the van ,also the flooring adds an extra weight.
    I prefer PVC instead of Wood,It last longer,and It weigts less.
    For the floor i would have used a flexible glue as the engenier floor needs to be able to expand and contract,may be vinyl flooring it has more resitance to water .
    Just my opinión,i like your video very much, beautifull job there 😚

    Hi Will, Great video. I have just bought a Caddy Maxi myself which was also an old builders van and had the same rust issues as you by the rear door. So much so that one of the striker plates for the left rear door latch has gone. Will need to get a new one and weld it to a plate. I have bought all the sound deadening, insulation and foil to do the inside like you have in this video. Not sure whether to ply line it or carpet the walls & roof. Will be using it to take the e-bikes on some adventures so will be doing the floor in a rubber liner. Have you got the plans for the ply lining? I know you just used the old ones as stencils for this one but I have not got the old ply to use. Loving the videos, keep them up.

      Sounds like a great plan though and the rubber floors are really good and super easy to clean. I don't have the plans for the plywood I'm afraid but if you post in some caddy groups on Facebook I'm sure someone will have them. :)

  • @rupprechtknecht3103
    @rupprechtknecht3103 Před 2 lety +1

    That rust 😟 remember the open rocker panel construction - behind the inner fender you can look into those for the whole lenght to the rear wheel. Our Caddy from 2005 had fist size rust holes in both sides just after 8 years - it was a beloved and well maintained family car. We cleaned the rocker panel twice a year but no chance against rust.

    • @willsvanadventures
      @willsvanadventures  Před 2 lety +1

      Oh no! That's awful, where is the inner fender? I've nor heard of that before. As in the rear wheel arches?

    • @rupprechtknecht3103
      @rupprechtknecht3103 Před 2 lety +1

      @@willsvanadventures to get a look onto the mess it is enough to turn a front wheel to the outside ( steering wheel complete to the right ) - then remove the two lowest screws of the inner plastic fender and look behind the fender. There will be a lot of dirt and in our case it was more than 3 liters of water / mud mixture which came out of the rocker panel. It was when our Caddy was 6 months old. Also have a look on the deflector panel at the wipers. The rhd version will have two open holes on top which are for the lhd wiper arms. Those holes must be closed with plugs - otherwise the leafs will fall into and later there is a lot of soil there. The water / leafs / soil is guided to fall direct to the open position of the rocker panels. It looks if VW made that with intention....
