    Careful. Bleeding wood like cedar must be spot primed with an alkyd based primer, oil. Prime before patching then continue as described.

      For douglas fir and redwood roofs, is oil-based primer best?

    Nice vid. Please include in the notes what products were used. I did not hear clearly the product mixed to stop fungal rot.

      The fungus killer is household bleach

    You would need to Sand the paint all off and restart from bare timber. it's only going to lift off again if you don't.

    Would you fill cracks and holes in the fascia with a wood filler or with caulk? Which one is better and why? I would like to fill a countersunk nail. What about a crack that around1/16 of an inch.

      We do have 3 crack filling videos on this channel. Have a look at our videos section.
      There are many fillers to fill different size and depth of crack. Makes and brands depend on where you are in the world. Caulk cartridges in a caulk gun are great for smaller cracks (up to 1/8th inch) and cement powders that you mix with water are good for larger cracks. Put stones into lager cracks as you trowel in the cement to help fill the gap. It's best for you to visit your local hardware store, hopefully they have people there who can give you reliable advice. Good luck, kind regards.

    Great video, you provide a lot of specifics. For this layman, would you mind telling me specifically what grain or tool do use for "basic sanding" after the initial scraping?

      Hi Christopher, any sandpaper between 50 and 100 grit ( so fairly rough) will work fine, kind regards, Don Morris

    I know this sounds like a dumb question, but what kind of brush did your guy use for removing debris around 0:56? Thanks.

    • @DiyMoviesSA
      @DiyMoviesSA  Před 5 měsíci

      It's just a little hand brush from a dustpan & brush set.

      I have a three steppermethod.. pressure wash with purple power diluted, wait until dry, scrape at it all not too hard tho, then use the all in one primer And paint , and paint.. dun....

    • @caseyleann7
      @caseyleann7 Před 6 měsíci

      That sounds a lot easier. Do you use purple power on a deck you’re power washing for staining?
