HOW I WON MY SECOND NCAA TITLE || Commentating My Race

  • In this video, I commentate my 2018 NCAA national championship in the steeplechase. I explain the nerves and pressure that I had to overcome to win back-to-back NCAA titles. I also go over the race plan that I had before the race, and how I was able to execute it. As any half-decent commentator would, I also discuss some of the exceptional women who were in this race and what they've gone on to achieve. It was a lot of fun to watch this race back. I hope you enjoy it! #NCAA #TrackandField #Steeplechase #NationalChampion #NCAATitle #AllieOstrander #GraysonMurphy #PaigeStoner

I love these race-oriented videos, which are insightful and inspiring. Also, you share a philosophy with Satchel Paige, the great baseball pitcher, who said: "Don't look back. Something might be gaining on you." But he also said "I don't generally like running," so I guess there is not as much overlap in philosophy as I thought. Great job and best wishes.

These voiceovers are wonderful, informative, and really humanize the professional athlete. Hearing you explain your thought process-starting a slow burn kick because you know the kick isn’t your strong suit, having the fear of looking back because of all the horror stories you’ve heard like the rest of us-it all makes you seem less like this untouchable speed demon who got lucky with the gene lottery and more like someone who worked really, really, *really* fucking hard to get to where you are. I think it’s easy to forget the mental game that goes into every race for pro athletes, no matter how naturally fast they are.

Cool! I was an exchange student in the US back in 2010-2011 and did track and field, and I ran the steeplechase once and got 2nd. It was no big meet though, just the next step up from just our county. I had no idea what I was doing and definitely went out too slow.
Even though I never ran at your level, I can definitely relate to your thoughts. Usually in my class back home I was always expected to win the little time-trial we had in gym class every semester. For w/e reason this was always so important to me. Maybe because you know everyone so well, kinda like singing in front of your friends. Anyway, you can't pretend that anything but a win is a disappointment, so you just have to deal with it. The best way is to just win it. Looks like you came to the same conclusion! :D

Truly excellent! At first when I saw the title of this video, of "How I won my second NCAA Title", the words instantly came to mind that...."You ran faster than everybody else!"
Very good insight on goals you set and achieved, and on your dedication to your training, with your strong belief in self.
Normally I would share some related running story, but not for this video as I have no background of winning a national championship...let alone back to back, and for which, I think you did this three times in a row? As you have beaten some world class athletes, I have no doubt that if you desire to return to that very top level, you will realize wonderful success. You have speed, strength, amazing strength of mind, and truly for lack of any better term.....a whole lot of guts. Oh yeah, I forgot humor.
I couldn't stop laughing after you took off in 10 degree weather, ran up a hill that was covered by snow, and then plummeted into the snow, which you crawled through, and with this expression that conveyed instantaneous total body freezing and abject misery, you said "refreshing". Good Lord, I loved that....still laughing!
