    Hello fellas. I subbed to your channel. I like your videos and I love the way you show the cleaned up coins as you find them.
    Not to knock you guys, but I have a few pointers for new enthusiasts to this hobby. I have been detecting since 1977. The pinpointer is the greatest invention ever for the detectorist. I really have trouble wrapping my mind around why everyone makes their holes so big in a manicured yard.
    When I hit a target with my old White's Spectrum XLT, I use the pinpoint function alot!, then I rake the pinpointer over the spot to see if it is close to the surface. If it is, I use a garden knife to cut a plug no more than 4" around to get it out without damage. If it is deeper than the PP can sense, my plug is normally no more than 6" across.
    Rarely do I cut a plug 12"-16" with a shovel unless I am in a plowed field.
    I really encourage newcomers to this hobby to actually make a test area in your back yard with copper cents, nickels, silver and clad dimes and quarters along with can slaw, pull tabs and bottle caps intentionally buried at measured depths of 2" , 6" , and 8". Maybe even put a coin on edge. Draw a diagram of youf test area with each target separated by at least two feet. Mark the exact location of each target with golfer markers. Learn and get to know your detector and especially the pinpoint function along with the other capabilities of your preferred machine such as the readings you get with each coin at various depths.
    I found a silver dime with my XLT at a depth of 8" by swinging slowly and listening for those faint signals.
    Once you know your machine by using and practicing in public domains such as parks, you will have much better success.

    Great video. I know what you mean about the separation, I did not have that with my Garrett AT PRO with the stock 8x11 coil, but when I put that NEL BIG coil on, WOW what a change, it has not come off since. That is all I hunt with. Just dug a seated one dime 1887 last night with nails in the plug with it. I love what that coil has done for me this year.

    Watch your guys detecting videos on a regular basis on my TV (but can't comment from there when I'm watching) I work 3rds so I watch when going to sleep or to get me hyped up to go detecting on a morning I'm off work :) . I know this vid is old, but from my many friends with a Deus it seems it's better on old sites with little modern non-ferrous trash (regardless of recovery speed: have you used the EQX 800 on 7 or 8?) I know you guys are both almost always using the EQX in the vids so that seems like the best for most situations.

    • @digthatbeep
      @digthatbeep  Před 7 lety

      That's just it, you're not just digging it anyways, you have to be able to hear it in order to dig it. With masked targets the key is actually hearing the good target mixed with the iron & that's were the Deus shines. I'm not saying the Deus is the only machine capable of digging masked targets because it's not. I've used several other detectors in the past that were also great at this but I'm just speaking from my experiences about the Deus for those who may be considering purchasing one! @masitaatisam3679 Před 3 lety

      The Deus is really a fine piece of kit.
      I used a fair share of detectors in the past years so i think i can compare usage .
      With every detector you can find coins or whatever metals but i think you can judge a unit by comfort of usage.
      The Deus is without a doubt a pleasure to use , even for entire days.
      The tweaking options of it has no borders, so you can do whatever you want with to serve you and when things get to comolicated just turn it off and very thing is like it was before except for a progamm you have saved .
      The tightness of this unit when swinging is the best there is .
      It is stiff , extremely light weight , and operates like a tesoro on sterioids.
      The only downside i could mention is the size of the text on the menu ..
      En the charging clip .
      Everything else is in my personal experience flawless.
      It is expensve gear but if you go out detecting at least 3 times per month on a steady base then it is worth the money for sure .
      It is plenty deep , suoer fast but most inportant , its audio is very informative , you can here a lot of info by them tones alone without looking to the screen .
      I do dig trash fron time to time but hey no problem , to dig treasuren you need to sig some trash too..
      But it recognises iron , and even deeper and bigger iron almost foolproof .
      Take your time with it and you will notice the advantage of having one.
      Period.

    I’ve been away from detecting for a few years due to work. Getting back into it a bit. I have a question for anyone that can help. Every video I watch lately, everyone is digging the biggest damn plugs I’ve ever seen in my life. 🤔🤔. I really don’t mean this as an insult, just wondering if something (though I can’t imagine what it would be) has changed since being away from it for 5-8 years? I understand inadvertently hitting a find with your digger but I did it for years, have never owned a pin pointer and probably hit a couple coins in 10 years time and I’ve found my share of em’ (although admittedly I’m not the best) digging about a three to four inch hole at the most. Again not trying to be insulting. Just an observation, as most videos I’ve watched lately everyone is digging HUGH PLUGS.

    • @digthatbeep
      @digthatbeep  Před 5 lety +4

      I guess it really more of a preference thing. For me the larger plug does decrease the chance of hitting the target but my main reason is they sit back down nicely and stay more secure. I've seen smaller plugs get sucked up my mowers, kicked up when people walk across them, animals dig them back up and they just don't seem to press back down as well for me. I've had good luck with the larger plugs, they also seem to do less damage in regards to killing the grass! Thanks for watching!

      Depends on the site. Some areas, especially those designated as "historical", are typically off limits. As are other areas of significance, such as where sea turtles lay their eggs. Private property is off limits too unless permission is granted, such as churches, old homesites, etc. There are still plenty of places to swing our detectors: parks, public schools, playgrounds, and beaches to name a few.
