I haven't detected for a couple of months, and there is a huge vacant lot a block away from me where I've already found wheaties, an Indian head and a signet ring. But this Florida heat and humidity is just too much for me. I probably won't get back out until the end of September. In the meantime, I'll live vicariously through you guys. So, thanks!

I am impressed with your knowledge of old US coins. Very exciting to see the Barber quarter and the other cool coins recovered from the ground. My wife really likes the old fancy hinge BTW. Me too. And of course Mike's cool hot rod. I dug a 1945 Mercury dime a couple days ago in a park, only about two inches deep, and that beautiful white silver color! Always a thrill. I found ice box hinge from March 17th 1925 and I have a 1944 P war Nickel.

I saw track marks from a skid loader in the basement. Where is the cellar entrance? Open the doors and let the light in. If that's what you found how much got scooped up and hauled out of the basement? I'd look for the refuse piles..

Funny how some of the best finds come when you are about to give up and headed back to the car. War nickels are always cool finds.

I believe the aviation badge you found is Coast Guard, not Navy. The CG aviation pins feature a shield on them. Very nice find!

Can't believe you don't know more about coins. ALL of your 1943 & 1944 Wheaties should be shiny. They were Steel Cents plated with Zinc so they wouldn't rust. If you find any copper ones from those years, they could be worth thousands of dollars. Only 40 accidentally produced 1943 copper pennies are known to exist.

Those wire brushes should be thrown out. No place for it in metal detecting. A soft brush, knowhow and patience is all you need. I dont care if it is a Hawheat.
