    I own the 2021 SR+ 4x4 and got it for 49k. The salesman said it was the best version as it was the most customisable and most reliable version. It has same drive train as the Top of range but less buttons. It is also a better work Ute…

    Great package overall, ticks most boxes. I just wish the interior didn't look cheap and 15 years out-of-date. Probably still the ute to buy given it reliability.

    Did Toyota get rid of the DPF purge button?? Am i right in saying this Toyota is now more expensive than the new 2023 Ranger? Yet, no cabin updates have been made? Whats its fuel economy like? And the rear sests? Feels like a lot has been left out on purpose?? 🤔

    • @Drivecomau
      @Drivecomau  Před 10 měsíci

      Toyota lists the GVM at 3050kg but doesn't provide a GCM for the GR Sport - but given this new variant has the same GVM as other dual-cab 4x4 HiLux model, expect it to list a similar 5850kg GCM though your local dealer may be able to provide more info.

    Did they change the chassis width and length?

    • @Drivecomau
      @Drivecomau  Před 10 měsíci +1

      The frame is unchanged - the added width is through the axles and suspension, and the resulting changes to geometry. The GR Sport comes with KYB monotube shock absorbers, retuned front coil and rear leaf spring tuning, and no rear swaybar giving it a unique set-up compared to other HiLux models.

  • @rubytuesday1345
    @rubytuesday1345 Před 6 měsíci

    I've had my new GR for about 4 months and comment as follows: I bought mine in New Zealand where the spec does not include the bash plate or the tow points that come as part of the Aussie spec. I'm new to Toyota having driven Land Rovers for the past 45 years and have been really impressed with the technology, economy and simple reliability of the Hilux. It is also a very capable off-roader. Where this ute lets itself down is the internal finishes. While I accept that it is not competing with LR products, the widespread use of hard, shiny black plastic which scratches really easily is disappointing. This is after all, a working vehicle and I would have liked to have seen more durable materials. The shiny plastic around the gear shift marks so easily , it's not funny. Similarly, the hard plastic in the door cards is also prone to scratching. Toyota should really look carefully at these and use either softer or more scratch resistant materials or finishes. Overall, I give it a solid 9 out of 10.

    Thanks Joshua - I saved A$20k buying an SR 4x4 Hilux auto instead (after selling my WRX) and put most of that towards the mortgage - I couldn’t see the value of spending that on a ‘wider body and GR trimmings’ - aluminium canopy/RFT setup for extra A$7k and touring happily around Australia - even the basic SR seats are very comfortable on long drives with good steering dynamics but would like rear disc brakes as standard - also would not recommend towing 3.5 tonnes with any ute unless it’s a US-built truck but they’re poorly built like Fords anyway - the other serious matter is that all these ‘show pony utes’ are going to be increasing targets of car jackers and burglars now in the cities as more folk from other countries start moving in - it’s happening now because I had to sell by Subaru WRX after a group of youths tried to car jack it in Dandenong VIC.

For the exercise let’s say passengers at 200kg, genuine tow bar, max towball weight @ 350kg. Fuel, tough tyres difference in weight for the exercise let’s say using KM3s. Bulllbar with winch, canopy, roof rack, driving lights, light bar. Fridge, aux batteries. What’s payload is left and how it effect the towing capacity. Standard suspension, no GVM upgrade so Toyota warranties aren’t compromised. Thanks👍🏻

    credit where credit's due, not for the outcome, but for the effort. next year with the 48v thing. it took them a while to realize the tide was turning, that a "premium" ute is more than a carpeted tray. I know the door for a v6 diesel in next gen Hilux is already shut, but hopefully Toyota will improve on other aspects, specially NVH. “And It certainly doesn’t look like any old Hilux”. That quote really baffles me.
    Since 2016 the design team at Toyota have simply been tacking on extras to try stay relevant. Just look at the random JBL speaker pods and head unit they retro fitted to the old interior design.
    The addition of another body kit and wheel arches certainly “DOES” make this look like any old Hilux. Meanwhile other manufacturers are leaning into the modern era with fresh new interior designs and vehicles with a larger road presence.
    Don’t get me wrong, I am a Hilux fan. Owning a 2021 Hilux. But I’m seriously concerned the brand is milking the R&D dollars and squeezing every cent out of an old platform. Does the Hilux become the next 79 series and this design stays the same for the next 30 years while everyone else moves ahead?
    I acknowledge that Toyota do have the best build quality and reliability. It’s just disappointing they are not moving forward with design. I think the Toyota Prado design team got the memo…. Just not the Hilux team.

    So in summary, the GR Sport is better than the regular hilux but still can't even begin to see a glimpse of the ranger or raptor in the race for the best ute.

    The only reason that Toyota Hilux has comparable sales with the Ford Ranger is its reliability. The looks on the exterior aren't bad but can be better,but as for the interior or a dashboard design its so boring and unattractive even the GWM P-series has a more beautiful interior design than this hilux Japanese are still lagging behind in terms of interior design I'm not sure if its stubbornness or what but its not working in their favour. look at what Chinese have done their cars looks much nicer than those of Japanese. So reliability alone isn't enough if beauty isn't there?

    Did Toyota get rid of the DPF purge button?? Am i right in saying this Toyota is now more expensive than the new 2023 Ranger? Yet, no cabin updates have been made? Whats its fuel economy like? And the rear sests? Feels like a lot has been left out on purpose?? 🤔

    • @positivepete4265

      Purge button there. Not more expensive than new raptor. This hilux competes with the 2018-2021 Raptor, or new Wildtrak and Wildtrak X
