Being the leader of one of the biggest gangs in megacity one doesn't come easy. Knowing this day would come eventually Mama rigged the top fifty floors with explosive enough to destroy the building and everyone in it. Will she be able to talk her way out of final justice?

LOL yeah that scene with Strange was extremely good and funny.
Buahahahaha

Also badass pre-death line in Unforgiven

ooooooops....
He was never in doubt regarding the outcome; it's just satisfying to watch the prick prove their own bluff wrong.
The movie UNFORGIVEN did it first & better, but they’re both stone cold deliveries
What an underrated movie.
Indeedm it's an amazing movie. Good characters, a plot that's simple but nice.
Rarely do I say better than the original.
It was a pile of typical Hollywood occult crap. Ma ma = God, Ma Ma's henchmen = Angels, Peach Trees = Tree of Life, Dredd = Lucifer. Lucifer the fallen angel overthrows God, by......throwing her down, so she becomes a fallen angel.
S James Interesting point of view.
The Elite occultists often conflate God with Saturn/Cronus, the father of the Gods (angels), who is brought down by his sons. And as he is the God of Time, so Ma ma has power over time. This is all symbolic of their "Fifth Age". They believe the ages swing from good and evil ages. The good fourth age is over, so God goes down.
Damn! I never noticed it before, but the blood splatter from Mama's face when she hits the concrete is in a red X! Just like Dredd's visor!
Nick Craig Damn!! Good eye man!!!

it is so light years better than the shitty stallone version
Yep
Her expressions as he's talking to her while she lies on the bed are great, that snarl like she wants to curse at him but can't. Worse still, she's realizing he's calling her on a flaw she didn't realize, and she didn't expect a wound either from a Judge that *wasn't* instantly fatal. So now she's lying in agony, listening to a Judge basically tell her she screwed up.
This is actually the reverse of a Villain Monologue.
"tell me this movie is amazing without saying this movie is amazing"
I loved the ending in the cinema .. this part was a beauty. I watched this twice
She’s also giving Slow Mo’ as a parting gift’ Slow fall, and very slow death….Must suck for her.
Without slow mo….her death would’ve been, very quick, and painless.
hate to break the magic but youd die normal speed at some point during that slomo fall she'd just would stop being then she will be recycled into good food@@ebperformance8436
06:24 This is the moment I realized how insane is Dredd.
What he did with Mama and the bomb was really a coin flip. He was not really sure if the bomb would activate with the signal out of range.
He didn't even care about the citizens of the building, his partner or himself.
The sentence is death, and justice must be served, no matter what.
He isn't insane, he's just ruthless. But I don't think he didnt care about the civilians. If he didnt he would've executed Ma-Ma immediatelly, consequences be damned. But he stalled until he figured out a possible solution.
more like an anti villian
he couldve just stunned her and taken her away from the building but that wouldnt have been as cool
Dredd is just as ruthless as her. She killed a whole floor of citizens just to get to eliminate him. No room for negotiation. The sentence is death, and he will follow through.
Yeah
One of the best movie villains. I love how she just inhales the slow-mo, knowing that it will prolong her fall and then just enjoys every second of it.

To be honest, it isn't completely Hollywood's fault. The movie just didn't perform well in cinemas. It's hard to get investors onboard after poor box office showing. Can't blame the consumers either really. Everyone thought this was going to be a dud. Boy were we wrong. Despite my viewpoint, however, I'm still up for purging Hollywood. :)
I think people are missing something. Many people are saying Dredd drugged her to prolong the agony of her punishment, and prevent her heart from stopping before reaching the bottom, but they neglect that she inhaled willingly.
She wanted one last hit before she died as well.
I think that Dredd ask her a question on purpose (how do you plead) so that she has to inhale in order to answer
@white rice it was the symbol of the life she chose
@White Rice yeah i was agreeing with lmao
Or maybe he was strangling her so she would gasp for breath
Well she got her last hit. Her very last...

As hard and tough as Dredd is - he is waving goodbye like a true gent.
truley a beautiful sentiment, it is the ebst part of the movie
That moment made me start thinking of an anime due to the beautiful graphics
I like the little nod that Dredd gives to Mama after she tells him that the building will collapse if she dies. It`s like he`s thinking "ok, thanks for the intel, but you still going to die today". Dredd is such a wonderful character. He is not a hero or anti-hero. He is Justice itself. He only follows the Law, and if the Law says that Mama needs to go, that's what he's going to do, no matter if he is outnumbered and outgunned. Solid badass. He even calls her "citizen Mama" and tells her crimes before throwing her through the window. In addition, it is wonderful that we never see his face, because Justice has no face. At the end of the day, Mama was not special at all for Dredd, just another criminal, just another day fighting common crime. He even states that at the end by saying that everything that happened was just a "drug bust". When his superior asks about all the mess, he just replies saying "perps were uncooperative". Just that. Simple. Straight to the point. I think the only time that Dredd was kind of an anti-hero was when he drugs Mama before throwing her. Don't know what to think about that. It was badass of course, but maybe a little off character. But, then again, maybe not because Dredd is also corrupted by hate, even though his control and discipline are greater. So, maybe not off the character.
Maybe the drug would keep her heart beating a little longer? Don't want her dying from a heart attack ten feet down.
I would call it poetic Justice. Keeps in line with the whole Justice theme he has going on
The beatiful thing is how Dredd knew immediatly what to do with her sensor. Bet this wasn´t the first time some drug kingpin had this idea.
With the amount of crime in megacity 1, this was just a monday for Dredd, not even a particularly bad one either xD
It reminds of the 95 movie where Dredd arrives on the block war and he mentions about the guns range from the blocks.
Dredd is a boss.
He’s lucky it wasn’t a reverse transmitter. A reverse transmitter would keep sending a signal saying don’t blow the building, and once you stop transmitting, the building blows.
It was a running theme in the comics that Dredd knew the ranges of certain weapons etc
“How do you plead?”

I love that they gave him a legitimate reason to both dose her with the drug AND toss her out of a plate glass window. Masterful.
G4nst4Ch33se to slow down her perception of time so her mind wouldn't anticipate her death and make her heart rate fluctuate on the way down.
Pretty sure that argument is questionable as her heart rate likely fluctuated when Dredd shot her and dragged her over to the window.
Wastelander1972 The monitor was looking for low heart rate, it seems.
@Pugtato then I guess they just did the Slo-Mo thing just to look cool...which I don’t mind either
They made the slow mo thing as an act of vengeance from Dredd. Ma-ma did the same to her victims, so, what better vengeance than doing her the same?
I love this ending. Calls her bluff, no mercy.
What's the other ending?
Wasn't a bluff.
He threw her out the window because there was a chance the Heart sensor wouldn't be detected by the bomb from the bottom floor. (The building is like 200 stories i think...)
It wasn't a bluff
This movie scratches the itch of masculine/authoritarian/fascist impulses like no other. 10/10.

There is a possible TV series on the way with Urban in the lead. the Channel Mr H reviews has talked about it alot.

Underrated movie by itself, even moreso as a comic book adaption. Dredd might even be my favorite comic book movie
This actually could've been a really cool way to set up an entire 2000 AD cinematic universe. This could've been the first movie, then have a Judge Anderson spinoff. The second Dredd could've had Judge Rico as the main villain, and it would be similar to the Stallone movie, but darker. In the end, Dredd retires from the Justice Department, because they believed he killed innocent people, not Rico. This sets up them to use Judge Kraken as a standin, and a few name drops could lead to stand alone movies featuring Lenny Zero, Judge Giant, Judge Fargo, Judge Hershey, etc. There could also be an entire movie about Judge Death and the Dark Judges.
Dredd 2 and the Judge Death movie would lead up to their big Avengers type movie, which would be based on the Necropolis story arc. I'd prefer it to be two parts, and although it would mostly be based on Necropolis, I'd also have a lot of parts inspired from Judge Death (comic), Judge Death Lives, and the Dredd vs Death video game.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure where I'd go after this.
Agreed. That would have been fucking perfect. And theres so much content you'd *never* run out of films. Imagine imagine imagine earth film?
I believe the Rouge Trooper stiries are meant to be set in the same universe, right? So theres that maybe to branch off of?
I personally would have love them to tie in much more 2000ad franchises, not necessarily contemporary with one another, but linked by a shared title at least. I want to see To Busters and Halo Jones and Slaine and Nemesis the warnock. I want to see a massive time travel film with them all in somewhere.

So even tho slo mo has a similar effect on someone as say weed. It’s actually a hyperstimulant due to making the brain perceive time slower it must process information much faster
That way she suffers longer than the fall would normally have
I think it's more of a fleeting effect, otherwise people on slo mo would literally become super human in their reflexes. They say it makes a person feel like they're perceiving time at 1%, not that they actually are. Otherwise, in a gun fight, a person on slo mo would have insanely fast reflexes. They're not going to move at inhuman speeds, but being able to perceive things at that speed would at least allow them to be aware enough to move more efficiently and assess the situation around them. As we see, that isn't really the case. I don't think our brains would even be capable of perceiving time that fast. 1/100th of a second would seem like a full second. 1 real world second would seem like ~1.5 minutes. When it comes to things like electrical signals in the body and chemical signals in the brain, they happen quickly, but how much can realistically go on in your mind if you stretch 1 second out to nearly 2 minutes? I'm sure there would be processes going on in the brain that wouldn't even be able to have a chance to chemically interact with brain receptors. It'd be like trying to run a new game on an old PC....not fast enough, just choppy low frame rate.

Tsk. A proper villain would have had a positive control system for that detonator so that signal loss would also cause the explosives to blow
When ruling with a mutually-assured-destruction device, would you really care if the device works as intended or not? If you need it to work, it means you've died. The threat of its use was all she probably cared about.
What if she forgets shes wearing it and goes down 50 floors?
Or there's just some interference or a power cut?
So how would she take it off?
There are worse punishments than death. Maybe she wasn't iterested in finding out how imaginative a Judge could be.
